
Margaret L. “Peg” Whalen passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025, in Brockport, NY, at the age of 79. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Whalen; sister, Mary (Norm) Tiede; and brother, William Klahn.
Peg will be lovingly remembered by her children, Kim McMahon (Robert Davison), Brenda (Geir) Stenshagen, and Kevin (Bernadette) Whalen; 6 grandchildren; sister-in-law, Cecilia (David) Hahn & brothers-in-law, Stephen (Linda) Whalen and Al Strittmather; and many nieces, nephews, church family, and friends.
Peg was born in Warsaw, NY, where she attended school until moving to Batavia. After graduation, Peg and Joe built their home in Elba where they raised their family. She was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church, where she frequently lent her culinary talents to preparing and serving countless meals and desserts for various church functions.
Peg had a great love of horses and dogs—especially Brittany Spaniels—and enjoyed sewing, drawing, riding horses, and cooking for friends and family.
Friends & family are invited to call on Friday, March 14th from 4 - 7 p.m. at Gilmartin Funeral Home, Inc., 329-333 West Main St., Batavia, NY, with a Funeral Service on Saturday, March 15th at 11:00 a.m. at Batavia First United Methodist Church, 8221 Lewiston Rd., Batavia, NY. Burial will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Elba.
