Beatrice Elva DeMaupassante

Beatrice Elva DeMaupassante, known affectionately as Elva or Bea, passed away peacefully at her home in LeRoy, N.Y. on May 15, 2024. Born on December 14, 1938, in Batavia, N.Y., Elva was the beloved daughter of the late Marie Poles Smith and James Curtis Smith of LeRoy.

     Elva graduated from LeRoy High School in 1956, where she formed lifelong friendships that she cherished dearly.  Her fondness of reading, particularly stories about World War II and biographies of the Stars, was a testament to her love for history and people.

     Elva was known for her love of news and conversation, always ready to share a story or lend a listening ear.  Her warmth and friendliness left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

     She is survived by her daughter, Chan Marie DeMaupassante; her granddaughter, Destiny Cummings Gonzalez (Thomas) and two great-grandchildren, Jasper Tomas and Indigo Rain Gonzalez.  Also left to mourn is her dear friend, Linda Forti, with whom she spent countless hours, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

     Family and friends may call on Monday evening, July 15 from 7 ~ 9 PM at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake St. Rd., LeRoy. Elva’s graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 16 at 11:00 AM at Machpelah Cemetery, followed by a repass luncheon.

     Elva’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
