Sylvia R. Merkle Hebell, 76 of Akron and formerly of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Buffalo General Hospital.

She was born January 5, 1948 in Batavia, NY, a daughter of the late Harry and Adrienne Harding Schaller.

Sylvia was a crafter, a quilter and former 4-H leader. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cross-stitching, crocheting, creating, coloring and unfinished projects.

She was welcomed into heaven by her late husband, Doug Merkle; step-son, Matthew Hebel; her parents, Harry and Adrienne Schaller; sister, Nancy Wilke and Niece, Sue Aichinger

She is survived by her favorite daughter, Kelly Merkle (Rob) Clinard; favorite son, Doug Merkle II. She was the best grammy to Jake and Joe Clinard and Caleb and Anna Merkle. Also survived by her cousin and sidekick, Carol McNally; best big sister, Betty Schaller (Gary) Muchow; friend, Dave Hebell and his son, Chuck Hebell; many nieces, nephews, family and friends

Family and friends are cordially invited to share thoughts, condolences and fond memories on Sunday (July 7th) from 4-7pm at the J. Leonard McAndrew Funeral Home, LLC, 32 John St., Akron, NY, where a funeral service will be Monday (July 8th), 6pm at the funeral home.

This way she can have plenty of time to watch her favorite fireworks from above.
