Eric Lee Pope

Eric Lee Pope, 64 formerly of Alexander, NY passed away peacefully in his home after a long courageous batter with lung cancer on June 15, 2024. He was also affectionately known to most as Rick or Popey. Born to Nellie MacConnell and Lawrence Pope on April 13, 1960 in Batavia NY. Eric was the middle of three rambunctious boys. Eric worked most of his life as an environmental well driller traveling all over the country until he was diagnosed with lung cancer in late 2018. He fought that battle for 6 years, receiving treatments and giving all his nurses a lot of sass.

Eric loved nascar especially Dale Earnhardt, bird watching, gardening, watching Judge Judy, maintaining his mustache, and drinking Busch light in his kitchen. Eric enjoyed hunting with friends and his brother Tracy. He enjoyed listening to music and often would sit in his car to listen to the radio. Eric also loved being a dad, it was the thing he was most proud of until he was promoted to grampy and his grandson became his best friend. Eric loved his bubsy and spoiling him with sugary treats especially before dinner. Eric was a stubborn person with a fierce personality. He was also one of the most kind, outgoing and down to earth people you’d meet. He will be severely missed by anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.

Eric was predeceased by his mother Nellie MacConnell, his father Lawrence Pope and his step mother Jaqueline Pope. Survived by his daughter Courtney (Christopher) Russell and grandson Carson Lee Russell of CT, Brothers Thomas Pope of Batavia and Tracy (Marie) Pope of Rochester, Sister Crystal Nestler of Fl and several nieces and nephews as well as countless friends.  Family will receive relatives and friends at the WENDEL & LOECHER INC. FUNERAL HOME 27 Aurora St. Lancaster, NY Wednesday July 3 from 4-6 pm. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday July 6 at the Beachhead VFW in Alexander from 1-5 PM.
