Age 90, died peacefully Saturday August 8, 2015 at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home. Mr. Amend was born in Germany on March 28, 1925, a son of the late Engelbert and Mathilda (Guthord) Amend, also preceded in death by his son, James Amend and daughter, Arlene Underhill.
Mr. Amend worked for Symington-Wayne Corp. in Depew, NY for many years as a steel inspector. A farmer at heart, he was an avid gardener, loved being outdoors and was constantly "tinkering" with something or bottling his homemade wine.
Surviving is his former wife, Rita (Graff) Amend; son, Karl (Roxanne) Amend of Darien Center; daughters, Kathleen (Volker) Schaal of Lancaster and Diane (Dennis) Yaple of Alexander; brother, Richard (Alfreda) Amend of N. Tonawanda; sisters, Josephine Paulter of Alden and Matilda Sangbush of FL; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. The family will be present from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday August 11, 2015 at the MICHAEL S. TOMASZEWSKI FUNERAL & CREMATION CHAPEL, LLC 4120 WEST MAIN STREET ROAD BATAVIA, NEW YORK 14020 where funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday August 12, 2015. He will be laid to rest in Alexander Cemetery and memorials in his memory can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
