David R. Campbell

  David R. Campbell, age 82, of Perry, NY, passed away on Tuesday January 10, 2018 at Suzanne’s Comfort Care Home in Perry. David was born in New Albany, Indiana on February 13, 1935 a son to the late Arthur and Carrie (Toops) Campbell. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by 5 siblings: Virginia Skipper, Lois Summers, Gayle, Paul and Roy Campbell.

He was a graduate of New Albany High School, received his Bachelors degree at the University of Louisville and received his Masters in education at Indiana University. He served with the US Marines from 1951 until his discharge in 1954. He worked in the education field for over 30 years, beginning his career as a school teacher and working his way up to High School Guidance counselor at Watertown High School. He retired in 1996. He was a member of the East Pitcairn Wesleyan Church in Harrisville, NY and after moving to Perry became a member at the Baptist Church of Perry. He was an active member at his churches, teaching Sunday School, being a part of Bible study, the church choir, a deacon and an usher. He enjoyed constructing and flying model airplanes, boating, fishing, and watching high school and college basketball games. As a teenager and young adult, he was an accomplished table tennis player and won many championships. David was a family man who invested most of his time with his wife, children and grandchildren, he enjoyed telling stories and loved to laugh.

He is survived by his wife: Barbara (Chamberlain) Campbell whom he married on February 14, 1958, 2 children: Jennifer (David) Biggs of Cochranton, PA., Todd (Angela) Campbell of Perry, 5 grandchildren: Conner and Collette Biggs, Brennen, Tyler and Cameron Campbell, a brother Gordon D. Campbell of Chelsea, MI along with many nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior visitation, Funeral Services will be held on Monday January 15, 2018 at 6:30PM at the Baptist Church of Perry 77 N. Main St. Perry, NY 14530. He will be laid to rest in Glenwood Cemetery in Perry.
