DOROTHY M. BAKER

Age 88, of Batavia, died Monday morning November 7, 2016 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was born January 28, 1928 in Corfu, NY a daughter of the late Edward J. and Anna (Pundt) O'Neil, also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack C. Baker; son, Lieutenant Colonel John F. Baker and siblings, Helen Deja, Mary VanNest and Ruth Lehnis. 

Dorothy was a longtime member of Resurrection Parish (St. Joseph's) where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, money counter, member of the Altar & Rosary Society, Legion of Mary and Prefect St. Joseph's Sodality 1996-2002. She was a supervisor and group chief for New York Telephone, a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and was chairperson of the Batavia Telephone Pioneers. Dorothy was very active in Genesee County, she was an elections inspector, worked with the Chamber of Commerce Tourism and was chosen Geneseean of the Year in 2008. She was a member of the Sun Catcher Garden Club, AARP and loved flowers and gardening. Dorothy's passion was the St. Jerome Hospital Guild where she assisted in the Jerome Gift Shop, Jerome Center Coffee Kiosk, Chairperson of the poinsettia and Easter flower sales and was chosen Honorary Member of the Guild in 1998. 

Surviving are her children, Jeff A. (Linda) Baker of NC and Nancy L. (Bob) Kendall of Batavia; brothers, John of Alexander, William of Darien, Charles of Batavia, Edward of NC and Michael of Batavia; sisters, Margaret "Peg" Meyers of Corfu, Anne Smith of Tonawanda and Marcy (Tony) Saraceni of Batavia; sister-in-law, Helen Batchelor of Stafford; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. 

Dorothy's family invites all to celebrate her Mass of Christian Burial 10:30AM Thursday November 10 at Resurrection Parish (St. Joseph's Site), she will be entombed in the Monsignor Francis L. Schwartz Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Genesee Cancer Assistance, Inc., c\o UMMC 127 North Street Batavia, New York 14020.
