Elaine (Cummings) Hensel, 96, of Corfu, passed away peacefully, Monday, January 13, 2025.
Elaine was born in Akron, NY, on January 3, 1929, a daughter of the late Earl and Ethel (Bates) Cummings. She was the mother of the late Frederick “Rick” Hensel, Jr. and Gerald Hensel, sister of the late Marian (late Raymond) Schmigel, and grandmother of the late Charles Hensel and Thomas Hensel.
Elaine was a beloved kindergarten teacher at Pembroke Central School for 40 years. She was a member of the Corfu United Presbyterian Church for over 63 years and a past Clerk of session. Elaine was the former Mayor of the Village of Corfu; Chairman of Genesee County Board of Ethics; Chairman of the Corfu Republican Committee; member of the Town of Pembroke Republican Committee and Genesee County Republican Committee; Charter member of Gamma Gamma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. Elaine was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers and Genesee County Retired Teachers; was on the Board of Directors of the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery and a member of the Newstead Historical Society.
Elaine is survived by her grandchildren, Christopher (Amber) Hensel and Rebecca Hensel; 10 great grandchildren; her sister, Sharon (late Peter) Knyter; daughter-in-law, Beverly Hensel and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Monday, January 20, 2025 from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4 East Main Street, Corfu, NY. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the Corfu United Presbyterian Church, 63 Allegheny Street, Corfu, NY. Burial will be in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, Akron, NY.
