Louis “Grizz” Scafetta

Louis “Grizz” Scafetta, 72, of Byron, NY passed away peacefully at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024.

He was born on October 25th, 1951, in Batavia, New York, the son of the late Antonio and Mary (Cipollone) Scafetta.

He joined the Army and served his country from 1970 to 1972. Upon completion of his service, he married the love of his life Linda Chapell on May 4, 1974, at St. Joseph's Church, Batavia. Throughout their 50 years of marriage, they raised two wonderful children and created a beautiful family and a lifetime of wonderful memories with their grandchildren and great grandchild. Grizz worked as a Maintenance Mechanic at the NYS Veterans Administration in Batavia, New York for 25 years.

He was a member of The American Legion, Coons Club, Elks Lodge 950, Northwood Sportsman Club, and Polish Falcons. Grizz was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, gardening, and spending time at a hunting cabin in Pennsylvania with his friends. He was a skilled craftsman and carpenter who, together with his wife Linda, built their dream log home. He cherished his family and friends and loved spending time with them at gatherings down at the pond.

Grizz is survived by his beloved wife, Linda "Scar" Scafetta of Byron; daughter, Michelle (Scott) Gillard of Batavia; son, Louis Jr. (Kristin Ward) Scafetta of Batavia; grandchildren, Louis III (Aleiah) Scafetta of Varysburg, Lilliana (Emily Murphy) Scafetta of Attica, Madysen (Scott) Tanner of Alexander, Victoria (Alex) Sweetland of Spencerport, Brenden (Aly) Gillard of Batavia, and Olivia Gillard of Batavia; great- grandchild, Rory Tanner of Alexander; brothers, Nicholas (Shelley) Scafetta of Colorado, Salvatore (Renate) Licata of Batavia, Anthony (Debra) Licata of Batavia, Rito (Cathy) Licata of Batavia; sister, Deborah (Keith) Reamer; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In death Louis is reunited with his parents, Antonio and Mary Scafetta; brother, Anthony Scafetta and sister, Angeline Licata.

Friends and family are invited to call on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at H.E. Turner Funeral home, 403 East Main Street Batavia, NY, 14020. A Celebration of Life will follow at the family’s pond.
