
He attended Batavia public schools. He married Elizabeth “Betty” Frisby on November 12, 1950, at St. Joseph's Church in Batavia with Father Donnelly officiating, where they were members for many years. They have been married for 71 years. Mr. Spiotta worked at Doehler-Jarvis until 1944 when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served from 1944-1946 in WWII. Upon returning home he worked at Massey-Harris for a bit until staring at Batavia Downs where he worked maintenance during the day and the $50 betting window at night. He retired after more than 45 years of service. He was a lifetime member and on the board of directors of the St. Nicholas Social Club. He received “Member of the Year” in 1980 for his outstanding service and loyalty to the club. He spent many hours there playing cards and drinking beer with his best friend Dapper Dan Berardini. He was also a member of the American Legion and VFW.
Surviving is his loving wife; Elizabeth “Betty” Spiotta; one son Nicholas Spiotta of Buffalo; two daughters Julie (Mark) Harasimowicz of Batavia, and Francesca (John) Loy of Clayton, NY; five grandchildren Patrick (Michelle) Spiotta, Adam (Erica) Spiotta, Michael (Emilee Reeb) Harasimowicz, Kelly (Andy Barber) Spiotta, and Jason (Gina) Harasimowicz; 9 greatgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Michael James Spiotta, his parents and his siblings.
There will be no calling hours. A 12:00PM noon Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday February 7, 2022 at Resurrection Parish 303 E. Main St. Batavia, NY 14020.
