Former owner/operator along with her husband of the Checkerboard restaurant and Big Daddy's Ale House for many years died peacefully Tuesday evening August 4, 2015 at the Genesee County Nursing Home with her family at her side, she was 88. Mary was born June 30, 1927 in Batavia to the late Gerald and Lucy (Parisi) Ferrando, also preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Bonarigo, Jr. in 1980 and her brother, Carmen (late Rose) Ferrando.
Mrs. Bonarigo was a lifelong member of Ascension Parish (former St. Anthony's).
Surviving are her beloved children, daughter, Rosemary (Joe) Fiannaca of Batavia and their children, Joseph (Kristin), Gregory, and Melissa (AJ) Kasmarek; son, Benjamin (Diane) Bonarigo of Batavia and their children, Benjamin, Justine (Brennan) Briggs, and Elizabeth along with many great-grandchildren, brother, Vincent (Florence) Ferrando of Rochester, sister, Angie (late Bob) Casper of Batavia along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Prayers will be recited 9:00 AM Friday August 7, 2015 at the MICHAEL S. TOMASZEWSKI FUNERAL & CREMATION CHAPEL, LLC 4120 WEST MAIN STREET ROAD BATAVIA, NEW YORK 14020 followed by a 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Ascension Parish (Sacred Heart Site). She will be entombed in the Monsignor Francis L. Schwartz Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery and in lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Notre Dame High School Foundation, 73 Union Street Batavia, New York 14020.
