Join the Genesee County Master Gardeners on Wednesday, April 13, from 6 to 8 pm for a free program on “Urban Forestry & Tree Care.”
DEC Forester, Garrett Koplun, will be the speaker. The presentation will cover a variety of aspects on Urban Forestry. We’ll discuss what an ‘urban/community forest’ is and how managing trees in an urban environment differs from management in the traditional forest environment.
We’ll also discuss the benefits trees offer to the people of the community; some are quantifiable while others are very subjective. The presentation will show a number of common problems urban trees experience. Some of these are the more obvious issues that present symptoms easily seen (i.e. yellowing leaves, tree cavities, crown dieback, etc.).
We’ll also talk about some of the less obvious problems and their causes. The presentation will then cover ways to improve and even prevent tree health issues.
This class will be held at the Genesee County Cornell Cooperative Extension at 420 E. Main St., Batavia. It’s free and open to the public. We do ask that you pre-register by April 11 as space is limited.
