Barry W. Bower, 81, of Hanover, Pa., entered into God’s eternal care Wednesday (Oct. 22, 2014) at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He was the husband of Suzanne M. (Del Barto) Bower of Hanover.
Born Oct. 26, 1932, in Batavia, he was the son of the late Roland H. and Vivian (Chapman) Bower.
Barry was retired from Scott Foresman Company in New Jersey after working there many years. He was a graduate of Le Roy High School and the State University Teachers College in Geneseo. He was a member of Gettysburg Presbyterian Church, the Rotary, Torch Club in Gettysburg, Republican Club, Southeastern Adams Volunteer Emergency Services (SAVES), he also worked the local elections and was a former Batavia City Councilman. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Barry enjoyed bowling and was an avid golfer. He loved the Batavia Muckdogs, but especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Lynn B. Riccobono and her husband Francis of Batavia, and Wendy S. Hagerman and her husband Philip A. of Hanover; six grandchildren, Jennifer Kowalcyk, Patrick Witt, Amanda Kowalcyk, and Stephen Kowalcyk, Brandi Mayers, Ashley Albaugh, and one great-granddaughter, Cheyene Rudisill; four siblings, Brian, Robin, Candace, and Craig Bower.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce Bower and Roland Bower Jr.
A graveside service was held at Annunciation Cemetery, McSherrystown, Pa., with Pastor Louis Nyiri officiating.
