
Sal was a U.S. Navy World War II Veteran. He spent years and numerous hours as a volunteer at the Batavia Veterans Hospital. In the 1970’s he and his wife Joyce are remembered as the fun-loving owners of Heveron’s Hotel, bar and restaurant in East Pembroke. Sal finally retired from the NYS Thruway Authority. After retirement Sal and Joyce spent many years traveling around the United States and enjoyed visiting their children and grandchildren.
Sal never forgot a person’s name or face and always had a kind word for them. He had a love of horses and during his younger days owned and cared for numerous horses along with his passion for the sport of horse racing.
Salvatore is survived by his wife Joyce of 69 years. His children and their spouses include Glenna Harloff and her children Kevin (Carolyn) Geisler, David (Jackie) Geisler, Jennifer (Jeff) Barnes and Michael (Lisa) Harloff; four sons Paul S. Marchese, Peter M. (Deborah Wade) Marchese and their children Philip (Adrienne), Sara; Salvatore V. (Lori) Marchese, Daniel (Terri) Marchese and their children, Daniel (Carolyn) Marchese, Salvatore and Miles Marchese. Sisters Marie Gilmartin and Elaine Scappa; along with 10 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call on Friday, October 27, 2017 from 3 to 7 PM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main Street, Batavia, New York, 14020. A 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Resurrection Parish, 18 Ellicott St. Batavia, NY 14020. He will be entombed in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, in Batavia.
