Nicholas F. Zinni

Nicholas F. Zinni, 90 of Batavia, died Thursday February 20, 2014 at his home surrounded by family. He was born May 5, 1923 in Batavia to the late Salvatore (Angela Marie Gaultieri) Zinni. Mr. Zinni was a WWII United States Navy Veteran serving as a Radio Man on the USS Phantom Mine Sweeper in the Pacific Theater. He earned the Two Star Award for the Asiatic, Pacific Theaters, Victory and American Campaign Medals. Mr. Zinni was a lifelong member of St. Anthony’s Church, the Holy Name Society, serving as an Altar Boy and Usher. He was a life member of the former St. Nicholas Club in Batavia and served on the Executive Board for the club. Mr. Zinni worked at Tops Marked in Batavia for many years. He was an accomplished bowler and avid golfer. He is preceded in death by a brother Donald Zinni; sisters Mary Strollo and Elizabeth Ianni. 

Mr. Zinni is survived by his beloved wife Norma (Eccleston) Zinni, sons Nicholas C. (Ellen), David (Elisa), Vincent (Sabrina), Joseph (Jill) Zinni all of Batavia; daughters Rosanne Zinni, Theresa (Paul) McNally both of Rochester; sisters Rose DiSalvo of Batavia; Theresa DiVirgilio of North Tonawanda; 10 grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Sunday February 23, 2014 from 4 to 8 PM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main Street Batavia, New York 14020. A 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday February 24, 2014 at Ascension Parish 19 Sumner St. Batavia, NY 14020. Entombment will be in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Batavia.
