Carol L. Guppenberger, 87 of Batavia, passed away on Monday October 7, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born September 29, 1926 in Ossining, New York to the late William (Lillian Sampson) Precht. Mrs. Guppenberger has been a proud member of Genesee Chorale since 1973. She was a longtime member of Resurrection Parish – St. Mary’s Church and its choir. Mrs. Guppenberger volunteered with Meals on Wheels, 25 years with the Genesee Chamber of Commerce Tourist Booth, served school lunches at St. Mary’s and later at St. Anthony’s. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles in pen. Mrs. Guppenberger is preceded in death by a son Mark F. Guppenberger.
She is survived by her beloved husband Francis J. Guppenberger of Batavia; sons Thomas J. (Cherie) of Washougal, WA; Peter W. (Carin Caruso) of Batavia; daughters Terri M. (Donald) Hunter of Bogota, NJ; Susan C. (William) Keidel of Churchville; Mary Beth (Robert) Lovria of Batavia; Ellen A. (Alan) Beideck of Saranac Lake; Linda L. (Alan) English of Central Square; Lisa K. (Dean) Hewitt of Perry; daughter-in-law Mary Lou Guppenberger of NC; 27 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren along with several sisters and brothers-in-law, many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday October 9, 2013 from 3 to 7 PM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc., 329-333 West Main Street, Batavia, NY. A 12:00 Noon Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday October 10, 2013 at Resurrection Parish 18 Ellicott St Batavia, New York 14020. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Batavia.
