A small black dog is reportedly locked inside a red station wagon outside of the Caryville Inn in Oakfield. That's at 25 Main St. across from the post office. An animal control officer is responding.
UPDATE 2:35 p.m.: The officer says the dog is now out of the vehicle and taking a walk with its owner.
Who is running around the
Who is running around the county narking on people leaving pets in the car. Its not a crime, its barley hot out today. This is getting ridiculous.

cj; I could not agree more. My poor dog who is no longer with me always enjoyed riding in the car with me. One day last year I had to stop at Batavia Downs and pickup something in the office. It was 10:00 am and the temp was maybe 65. I left one window down anyways. Sure enough when I left (about 5 minutes later)and was headed to my car there was the old fuddy duddy calling 911. Listen you old fools , mind your own business/? Call if there is actually something wrong.

Fred, I posted this scanner item, not Howard. I thought it was a bit warm and humid out and we have a penchant for posting items about animals in distress. I don't see that changing anytime soon.

The report does not say whether windows are rolled down or not, but I would assume they were up. It was 82 at 5 this afternoon. Let's put you people in a full fur body suit and tape your nose shut and leave you locked in a car on a summer day. It's a crime.
It's not my goal to encourage
It's not my goal to encourage people to report dogs locked in the car, and based on past history, there seems plenty of people are willing do to that even without The Batavian reports.
It is my goal to use these posts for public education. I want dog owners to THINK before they leave the house with their pooch.
I see these posts as regular reminders -- don't lock your dog in your car on a hot day. That really isn't too much to ask, I don't think.
We've had a lot fewer hot days this summer than the past two summers, it seems, but even so, I feel like we're having an effect. We're hearing far fewer of these calls this summer than previous summers.
If helping remind a dog owner to keep Fifi or Fido at home on a hot day saves one dog's life, I think we've done a good deed.
