Carol L. Boryczka 69, of Batavia, died December 8, 2010 in United Memorial Medical Center. She was born July 3, 1941 in Dunkirk, New York to the late Casimer and Madilon (Schrantz) Mekus. Mrs. Boryczka was a Member of Ascension Parish (St. Anthony’s), past president of the St. Anthony’s Home School Association, a lunch room aid and a home room mother. She was a volunteer for numerous groups, a long time member of the Town of Batavia Fire Department Auxiliary. She was an avid crafter and had her own crafting business “Designs by Carol”. She was a loving grandmother. She was preceded in death by her son Thomas Cass Boryczka, her brother the late Eugene Mekus and her sisters Frances “Peggy” Bajdas and Lois Mekus.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years Thomas P. Boryczka of Batavia, son Thomas F. (Sandra) Boryczka of Elba, daughters Cheryl (Terrence Valentine) Houseknecht of Dunkirk and Deborah (Jeffrey) Westling of Dunkirk. One brother James (Ruth) Mekus of Dunkirk, brother in law Henry Bajdas of Dunkirk and sister in law Gail Riforgiate of Portland, NY survives along with 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Monday December 13, 2010 4 to 8 PM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc., 329-333 West Main Street, Batavia New York 14020. Prayers will be recited on Tuesday at 9:15 AM at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Ascension Parish (St. Anthony’s), 122 Liberty Street, Batavia at 10:00 AM.
Burial will take place in St. Hyacinth Cemetery in Dunkirk.
