Amen, Dave. I'm tired of hearing about our taxes supporting things such as pro sports, which with all their fans, endorsements, and branding, should be able to support themselves. Also, take away their tax free status. Lets fix the roads and bridges before fixing stadiums and subsidizing the wealthy.
I'd go even further and eliminate the taxpayer from paying for extra-curricular activities in the public schools. Let the family's of the kids who participate [which is a minority of the total student population], fund those programs.
Mark,
It can be argued that the ice arena is just an indoor park. The cost for a regular member of the community is a just an upkeep fee to pay for the utility costs that a sandlot ball field doesn't incur. Unlike Dwyer, I can go and play hockey or just skate at Falleti.
Brian and Alvin,
If football players had to pay for their own pads like the other contact sports, that would be a substantial savings in itself. Hockey players don't get shoulder and shin pads from the school, do they even get helmets and gloves provided? What about lacrosse? Its not about excluding the poor, it about reducing costs to families so they can pay for things a bit more important than a jock's best days in high school.
they need to eliminate all
they need to eliminate all tax breaks for private industry. Thereby lowing everyone's taxes. Stop Crony Capitalism!!!!

Here's another $30 million
Here's another $30 million stuffed into a sock drawer that'll be forgotten about, and some future politician will find a way to pilfer. http://www.whec.com/news/stories/s3726922.shtml?fb_comment_id=fbc_88418…

The city of Batavia property
The city of Batavia property tax payers are still paying for Dwyer Stadium and an Ice Arena...
So only kids with affluent
So only kids with affluent parents can play? Let me guess, you couldn't find anywhere else the govt. is hemorrhaging money.
