Press release:
Congressman Chris Collins (NY-27) issued the following statement after voting to fund the Department of Homeland Security.
“It is my responsibility to Western New Yorkers to ensure the funding needed to guarantee their security is provided,” Congressman Collins said. “Political theatrics should never endanger Americans’ safety. Today I voted to make sure that did not occur.
“Lurching from one crisis to the next might make for lucrative political fund-raising, but it does not make for good government. It is time we end the political ‘Groundhog Day’ and fulfill the jobs we were elected to do; creating an environment conducive to job creation and addressing the needs of the people who elected us.”
Yep, Representative Collins
Yep, Representative Collins showing again he's a GOP statist. Funding DHS is like using George Orwell's 1984 as the outline for a new Constitutional Convention.
Not that long ago Senators Carl Levin (D-MI) and Tom Coburn (R-OK) released a bipartisan congressional report, which stated: “It’s troubling that... Instead of strengthening our counterterrorism efforts, they (DHS) have too often wasted money and stepped on Americans’ civil liberties”. DHS seeks to investigate individuals who, in their opinion, might be a terrorist threat. DHS, alongside personnel from state and local agencies pool information about these citizens at fusion centers. DHS stores the information gleaned from these investigations on government computers. Much of the information stored on these computers analyzes the free speech behavior of the individuals in question. According to Federal law, DHS may not store such information on government computers unless criminal activity is involved. It is unconstitutional. Therefore, everyday DHS acts in opposition of the United States Constitution and Federal law. Millions of people have their rights violated. Every. Single. Day.
Either Representative Collins doesn't understand the famous quote "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety - Ben Franklin, Nov 11, 1755"... Or he just doesn't care!
"Ten years after the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, it is clear that this department has failed to protect our security, but has infringed on liberty. If Congress really wanted to enhance our security and our liberty it would shut down this unnecessary, unconstitutional department." - Ron Paul March/1/15
