The City of Batavia has posted a job opening on at least one Web site for a new director of public works, a position currently held by Williamsville resident Sally Kuzon.
The city did not make any announcement about Kuzon's future, but WBTA reports Kuzon is retiring.
The job pays $73,134 to $88,705 for somebody with a minimum of a four-year degree and three to five years experience.
The job opening is not posted on the city's own Web site, which currently states there are no open positions with the city.
The director of public works oversees all operational and maintenance aspects of the community’s streets and roadways, water, wastewater, parks and grounds, engineering, public facilities and code enforcement.
The position also requires supervision of winter snow plowing and clean up, a job the city was repeatedly criticized for by local residents over this past winter.
Why isn't this job reserved
Why isn't this job reserved for a local resident [preferably a city resident, but at least from Genesee County would suffice since Batavia is the County Seat]... ?

I mean come on. All you have to do is look at how the streets get plowed after a storm. Without fail....the street I live on would inevitably be driven on for a MINIMUM of 12 hours after the snow event so that there would be 4 - 6 inches of packed snow before the first plow run. Give me an effing break.That's doing a great job??

One would think that there
One would think that there are some who have worked in the DPW long enough to be fully experienced and knowledgeable in all phases of it's operation, who would do a much better job than someone who lived in another county, or distant land? Probably the reason that's not gonna happen is because the DPW workers with experience [seniority] earn more than what the Director's job pays.
More and more I'm inclined to think that along with a new Director of DPW, the City of Batavia needs a new Manager. DID YOU HEAR ME CITY COUNCIL???

Robert, term limits are always talked about, for all elected jobs. There is another term for it, called "elections". There are new people running this year. Volunteer to help them.
