Today's Poll: Is John McCain an American hero?

Despite persistent rumors that have rumbled in the shadows since the day McCain returned from his ordeal in a POW prison, there can be no doubt that surviving the torture, injury and maltreatment he endured qualifies as heroic. That's not solely my opinion; it's substantiated by those who were imprisoned with him. Regardless of one's feelings about the Vietnam War or war in general, there is no justification for the recent cheap shot aired during a Fox News program on the subject of torture vis-à-vis the current vetting of a CIA director appointee. The remark was deplorable not just in the gratuitous sullying of a former POW but in the context of McCain's current health struggle. Fox notoriously finds its subject matter experts under rocks, but they hit the bottom of the barrel with McInerney.

John McCain's total disregard for protocol, and horsing around doing a "wet start" of his fighter jet, was the cause of the USS Forrestal disaster. According to many sources, it was John McCain that caused the firing of the rocket that caused the Forrestal incident, (the most serious disaster on an American ship). Stories make him out to be a “hero” while an “unnamed” total idiot is blamed. McCain is that idiot. His daddy consequently running cover for him. McCain’s cover story, that the plane behind him fired a missile into his plane is at odds with other stories that target him as the cause. The investigation and all records involving his military actions were under the direct supervision of his own father, Navy 4-Star Admiral John Sidney McCain Jr. who was Commander-in-Chief, Pacific Command (CINCPAC) at the time of this incident, and also a close ally and confidant to Pres Nixon. Colonel Ted Guy was preparing criminal charges against John McCain when Nixon took Admiral McCain’s "little boy" under his wing. With these powerful connections this “little infraction” was covered up by the Navy.

I cannot select Yes nor No.

Yes - he is an American Hero for serving, surviving torture, and returning and doing his best to help others - regardless of whether I agreed with his philosophy, he truly did try to help his fellow Americans.

No - Sarah Palin. What.The.Heck.(not the 4-letter word I want to type). What.The.Gosh.Darn.Heck. Although I may be able to appreciate his desire to stir things up... WHAT.THE.GOSH.DARN.HECK?????

Unforgivable... On top of that, he came out and declared many of Trump's proposals absolutely insane...and then voted for many of them. Sorry, sir.. It would be an honor to shake your hand, but I cannot vote Yes.

Interesting information on the Forrestal incident Brian, something to research further. I vote no because of his warmongering. He and his boyfriend Lindsay Graham never heard of, or conceived of a war they didn't like. His current battle with cancer is nothing compared to what waits on the other side.
