Press release:
Congressman Chris Collins (NY-27) today released the following statement after President Obama issued executive actions which circumvent the Constitution and deny Western New Yorkers their Second Amendment rights.
“A new year and the same dictatorial actions from President Obama,” Congressman Collins said. “President Obama has made it clear that he will not let legal documents like the Constitution stand in his way. Only this president would circumvent the Constitution to punish tens of thousands of law-abiding gun owners across Western New York and millions more throughout the country.
"The president needs to be reminded that it is Congress’s job to write laws. His proposed executive actions will significantly increase burdensome government regulations and infringe on the Second Amendment rights Americans have fought to protect. I have strongly signaled my opposition to these measures and have signed onto legislation to stop these actions in their tracks.”
I wish he would have stated
I wish he would have stated what he didn't like about the Executive Orders. I thought they were to close the loopholes for buying firearms on the internet and gun shows without obtaining a back ground check first. How does that punish "Tens of Thousands of law-abiding gun owners across Western New York"?
Gun laws only effect law
Gun laws only effect law abiding citizens. Criminals are what they are criminals ! They are not going to abide by any laws . So yes only law abiding gun owners will be effected by more gun laws . Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws but still ranks at the top of the list for gun violence.
It's tough to state what you
It's tough to state what you don't like when the only thing you're trying to do is pander to votes and whoever is paying your tab when it comes to your political ambitions.
Executive Order's occur when congress is deadlocked, and the only thing that this looks like currently falls squarely onto the Executive Branch, if they don't like it there's always a lawsuit.
Collins is paid well enough to handle that out of his own pocket if necessary, so put that big paycheck and lobbying check to work Chris.
Apparently he isn't up on
Apparently he isn't up on what Cuomo's SAFE Act involves.
The NY SAFE Act, signed into law by Governor Cuomo on January 15, 2013, amended various provision of New York law in relation to firearms, long guns, assault weapons and ammunition.
The Safe Act extended the requirement of a NICS check (National Instant Criminal Background Check System), which was previously limited to commercial weapons sales, to private sales through a new Article 39-DDD of the General Business Law (GBL).
1. General Business Law Article 39-DDD
GBL Article 39- DDD requires that all private sales of firearms, rifles or shotguns be conducted through a licensed importer, manufacturer or dealer. Before any private sales may be made, a NICS check must be conducted by a dealer on the purchaser.
Seems Collins is 3 years behind the times. This makes him sound like a political bag of hot air.
Representative Collins,
Representative Collins, signalling your opposition, and co-signing legislation to stop Executive Orders, [which is not even allowed]... IS NOT DOING ENOUGH.
"Congress cannot directly vote to override an executive order in the way they can a veto."

Considering things like Fast n Furious, Benghazi, NSA, and now circumventing the Constitutional system for creating law, we need strong and swift legal action and/or impeachment proceedings brought against this out of control tyrant, Barack Obama. And you should be in the front lines!
