Press Release:
BATAVIA, NY -- The Genesee Center for the Arts and the Forum Players at Genesee Community College will conclude its 2008-2009 theatrical season with the hilarious farce, Noises Off on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 7:30PM. Subsequent performances include Friday, April 24, 2009 at 7:30PM, Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 7:30PM, and Sunday, April 26, 2009 at 2:00PM.
Written by Michael Frayn and produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Noises Off depicts the onstage and backstage antics of a fifth-rate acting troupe touring in the awful sex farce, Nothing On. Despite the best efforts of the cast, crew and Lady Luck, this play-within-a-play follows the acting company's antics, both on stage and off, from the disastrous final dress rehearsal through months of performances, that include deteriorating relationships, collapsing scenery, exploding props and general hilarity. Reminiscent of slapstick and screwball comedies, Noises Off is a glorious opportunity to watch slamming doors, breaking windows, trips, slips and false entrances, while at the same time listen to miscues, flubbed lines, double entendres and a million laughs. Quite often, what's happening on stage is nothing compared to what's happening backstage ... and did we mention that infamous missing plate of sardines!
Consisting of Genesee Community College students and local community artists, the cast includes Samara Brown (Bronx, NY), Johnny Dow (Rochester, NY), Jessica Francis (Perry, NY), Norm Gayford (Warsaw, NY), Lucine Kauffman (Elba, NY), Robert E. Reiss (Elba, NY), Mark J. Sidor (Auburn, NY), Anjelica Sistrunk (Syracuse, NY), and Henry Sistrunk (Syracuse, NY).
Noises Off is being directed by Maryanne Arena, Director of the Fine and Performing Arts department at Genesee Community College, with Technical Direction by Ed Hallborg, Technical Director and Technical Theatre faculty member at the Genesee Center for the Arts. Scenic Design is by Ed Hallborg, with Lighting Design by Darlene Parsons and Joe Catalano, and Sound Design by Kyle Pafk and Craig Johnson.
"Noises Off is sure to be a lot of fun for audience members," director Maryanne Arena said. "The actors and crew have worked very hard and are ready to show the community the talents and skills that they possess. This show is not to be missed!"
General admission ticket prices for Noises Off are only $6.00 for adults, $3.00 for non-Genesee students, seniors and Genesee faculty and staff, and $2.00 for Genesee students with a valid ID.
