Batavia Players In. Summer Youth Theater and director, Patrick D. Burk announce Show Auditions for the Summer 2009 Production of THE WIZ. In 1975, the original broadway stage production won 7 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Composer and lyricist, Charlie Smalls, created a jazzy, urban, upbeat feel for an old childhood favorite. Based on the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the musical tells the story of Dorothy, who's blown away from Kansas and lands in Munchkinland where she meets the Cowardly Lion, the Tinman, and the Scarecrow; and follows their adventures as they travel down the yellow brick road to see the Wizard in Oz. Audition Dates: Tuesday, May 19th and Wednesday, May 20th, 6:30 PM; at John Kennedy Elementary School, 166 Vine St.., Batavia. Casting open to: Youth in Grade 6 through age 21 (a small group of younger age children will also be needed). Be prepared to sing and dance at auditions - no need to prepare ahead.
