New/Old Food in Town

By Ian Cromwell

This entry is mostly looking for opinions. I was very surprised to see noone has wrote anything about the fast food joint up and running. I personally have yet to eat the wonderful kentucky fried chicken and i'll give you one, maybe two reason why. Traffic and parking. That place is crazy. A line of cars streching all the way back east towards the light with their turn  signals on. Seems as if there is no place to park in the small lot they have. People were literally parking in mcdonalds and walking over. Also i heard long john silvers isn't even up and running yet. I can't imagine what it will be like when it is.

Im just wondering if anyone has been in yet and what you think of the setup.

This is what it looked like back on Thursday evening, people waiting in the road all the way back to the driveway of my apartment complex.

On Friday evening, a state trooper came and blocked the enterance to KFC and told them to shut the drivethru down for a little while, because there was a line forming on route 5 to the east passed McDonald's and almost to the Toco Joint.

Just imagine if the weather was alot worse and there was whiteouts from high winds and snow!!!

I went to KFC yesterday. A woman told me the drive-through was going to take an hour, so I went inside and waited 45 minutes.
I probably should have stayed home and made a sandwich.

I have to believe they were offering some special grand opening deals because if I dont then I cant believe how many people have been missing KFC since the last small location closed. I like Kfc dont get me wrong, I found Topps version almost as good. I will end up visiting KFC but no hurry. I am also looking forward to Long John Silvers opening for some awesome fish and hush puppies, malted vinager and some lemon on the side. I wish we could get the real "aurthor treatures" fish and chips.

No deals Gabor. It was more expensive than the old KFC.
I just started a diet, so this is not good that KFC opened up. That stuff is so addictive. I was talking to one girl that went there for lunch and was back for dinner.
I'm glad there is the long lines because I can't stand waiting for anything and that might help me stick to this diet. If there were no lines, it would be a chicken strip meal every day for dinner. So good.

I went through the drive-thru on Friday at around 12:30 and there were only about 8 cars in front of me. I think that part of what takes so long is that there is such a vast menu between both KFC and LJS, including lots of meals where you have to pick two sides. I went for the fish - and I'm thrilled that with Lent coming a month away there are finally some good drive-thru options for a Lenten meal. I bought the L1 lunch combo - 2 pieces of fish, 2 hushpuppies, fries, diet pepsi for $5.39 including tax. Delicious, filling and a bargain, too. I only waited in the drive-thru line less than 15 minutes.

My oldest daughter is a vegetarian. I am not, however I do find the following, from PETA, to be enough to keep me out of the lines.
The roughly 1 billion chickens killed each year for KFC's buckets are crammed by the tens of thousands into excrement-filled sheds that stink of ammonia fumes.
The birds’ legs and wings often break because they’re bred to be too top-heavy and because workers carelessly shove them into transport crates and shackles.
Chickens’ throats are slit and the animals are dropped into tanks of scalding-hot water to remove their feathers, often while they are still conscious and able to feel pain.
KFC lets frustrated factory-farm and slaughterhouse workers handle live birds, so many of the animals end up being sadistically abused. At a KFC “Supplier of the Year” slaughterhouse in West Virginia, workers were documented tearing the heads off live birds, spitting tobacco into their eyes, spray-painting their faces, and violently stomping on them. This was discovered more than two years after KFC promised PETA that it was taking animal welfare seriously.
KFC hides behind its Animal Welfare Advisory Council, even though five members of the council have resigned in frustration. One of them, Adele Douglass, told the Chicago Tribune that KFC “never had any meetings. They never asked any advice, and then they touted to the press that they had this animal-welfare advisory committee. I felt like I was being used.”

All those PETA fans had better avoid Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, A & W reataurants as well as KFC if you are committed to the cause. All, including Long John Silver's, are one company - Yum! Brands.

I love to eat dead animals. I watch travel channel all the time and guys like Anthony Bourdain all the time, so I have problem eating any animal. Also, I like KFC a lot more than Wal-Mart. KFC is beyond the best fast food on earth.

You're right, Kelly. I am a hypocrite when it comes to food. I think seeing the video got to me and merely postponed my trip there. I eat meat and enjoy it. And I'm sure a great deal of it comes from similar places like KFC factories. The publicity on that one reached me is all. Perhaps all the publicity will help all of them just make a few changes. Would benefit everyone.

While we're thinking about animal cruelty.I've been to Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen twice.I've donate a few hundred every year for the last several. And It's always a good idea to get your spayed or neutered.
Went to KFC Friday around 4,Was great food, service was acceptable. I counted 28 people working there at that time. And they were rolling cars and trucks through there as fast as they could.
I noticed the home to the west is for sale. More parking space we hope.

I will take Mother's chicken and fish before kfc in a heartbeat. Remember people this is a local business with local ties and not some coporate place.

My daughter has been begging me to go to Mother's. It's one of her favorite places. I was thinking about getting KFC for our little inauguration party tomorrow but I think I'll try Mothers. Thanks for the idea.
