Local author (Dispatches from the Muckdog Gazette and Ain't My America, etc.) spoke this week at Ron Paul's Rally for the Republic in Minneapolis.
A two-part video has been posted to YouTube.
The normally mild-mannered scholarly writer really gets into it.
In part 2 Kauffman makes the case that localism, the idea that people should look first to their families and their neighbors for their sense of place, for a sense of peace, is asserting itself all over again.
calling any debate comical
calling any debate comical when his speech is no more serious
I'm not all into his view of smalltown hometown USA being the good guys, either
America has been rural and is still mostly rural whether some official stat says otherwise
These farmers in barns don't only play unheard music
They also help write the music the bad guys play
There is no great wall of Batavia
We are all responsible for our society
homely
we're about as ugly as our cities
The country is perhaps just more backhanded in the way it goes about life
You may be able to borrow a cup of sugar but who knows what is said behind your back when the door shuts
I'm scared of the country
Aren't the small town folk the ones who want to put a boot to ass and all that garbage all the time
we all talk shit
How can the country be for both kicking ass and lemonade stands yet remain the innocent ones
I'm about diverse neighborhoods where people are forced to look into a mirror every once in a while
Violence/hatred occurs when people are segregated to the point that no mirror-gazing takes place ..and the country?
Ask people why they love the country so much
See if Nature is anywhere -consistently- in the top 3
Top 5
"lots of land" is not always the same thing as love of nature
I bet you'll hear a lot of SAFETY
Well, I figure you're about as likely to be a victim of random violence in the city as you are to being a lightning rod in the sticks
People will say the city is VIOLENT
No
There is more noticeable violence
More people
Keeping yourself from seeing violence doesn't make you a better person
Just being a voice in a City/Country debate is bad news!
Any aud that shouts as loudly for home-brew as it does for peace?
Not exctly how we want to draw it up, is it?
since when did spending time with family and people in general become so passe that nerds/politicians in ties think they can get somewhere by touting it as the next big thing
This Family Values Bullsh*t
The more people -talk- about the good things the less I listen to them
These things are & should stay the unheard music
But then maybe this is why Love Songs are always a hit
People are out there just wishing ..trying to find out HOW-TO
Love is simple
There is no need to teach peace or manners or ethics
That is mitigation of -sadly- what IS/will be
Finding ways to hate is extremely difficult
