Sheriff's employees gives away school supplies at Muckdogs game

By Howard B. Owens

Gary Diegelman and Norm Itjen, president of the Genesee Sheriff's Employees Association, hold two of the school backpacks the association gave away to school-aged children last night at the Batavia Muckdogs game. The backpacks contained school supplies and a gift card for Wal-Mart.

Outstanding! I'm sure it was a big help to many families.

Calls to mind the posts on this site when the $200 in cash per child was handed out to all who receive public assistance with kids.

It was particulary nice to see a family that already received a backpack through the drawing receive a second one because they had a few left over ($100 for one family). I hope they use it wisely.

I personally believe that the giveaway at the Muckdogs game was a way better idea than the free-for-all cashh giveaway they had!
