Book sale slated for the Masonic Temple next week

By Howard B. Owens

June Lee, left, and Janet Lee were outside of the Masonic Template 200 E. Main St., which also happens to be the location of The Batavian office, this afternoon, so I asked what was going on.

"We're waiting for the photographer from the paper," June said.

"Well, how would you like to have The Batavian take your picture, too?" I asked and she said "sure."

The book sale, sponsored by the Batavia Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, is Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., "rain or shine."

Proceeds will benefit various local charities.

One thing I was curious about: Whether Batavia has chapters of Demolay (I was a member for a short time in my youth), or Rainbow Girls.  The Lees said there is an effort ongoing right now to reconstitute a Rainbow Girls chapter in Genesee County.

I think I have already read most of those books. Back in 65 or 66. If it had been me setting up this picture I would have picked the cream of the crop and thrown a table cloth over the card table, not that it makes a bit of difference. I'm just fussy (I like that word) I guess.

Howard,
Batavia lodge #475 meets right across the hall from you on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. As you indicated that you are a former Demolay, I would encourage you to look into our Masonic fraternity. Nation wide the Masons give over 1 million dollars a day to charitable causes. We need more good men in the community to join fraternal organizations like the Masons.

I wonder if there are any secret society conspiracy books for sale :)

Sorry couldn't resist I love listening to the tin foil hat brigade on Coast to Coast and I have nothing against the masons.

I am wondering if they accept book donations there, I have some books I want to get rid of, keep forgetting to take them to Richmond Library for the sale there.
