The Alexander girls ran their league record to 3-1-1 with a 3-0 win over Oakfield tonight. Their overall record moved to 3-2-2 in the process as well.
Alexander got out to a 1-0 lead early as Senior Forward Rachel Pettys finished off a play that came from Anna Dominick to Tessa Bigelow and was finished off by Pettys from 8 yards just over 90 seconds into the game. Oakfield played inspired the rest of the first half and outplayed Alexander for large portions of the game as Alexander struggled to complete any passes.
Alexander came out after halftime and went right to work taking the kickoff right down the field. After Oakfield cleared their zone Anna Dominick found Pettys on a through ball at midfield and Pettys went in alone and her shot went between the goalies legs and she finished it off as she followed her own shot to make it 2-0 75 seconds into the 2nd half. Alexander controlled much of the play in the 2nd half but still struggled to move the ball thanks to some scrappy defense.
Alexander would tack on a late insurance goal as junior reserve midfielder Kat Schmieder found 8th grade midfielder Abby Shilvock and Shilvock tucked the ball into the right corner of the net to make it 3-0 with exactly a minute left in the game.
Sophmore goalkeeper Hannah Wilson made 4 stops in net for her 2nd consecutive shutout. 8th grade defender Gabby Kwiatek and Sophmore defender Claire Hartl lead the way in the back both pitching in strong games marking. Sophmore midfielder Ashley Szymanski, called up from JV this week, contributed with some great passing.
