Car accident on Main Road, Pembroke

A single car accident is reported at 380 Main Road in Pembroke, near the Erie County line. There are minor injuries. It is off the road. Mercy medics and Pembroke and Indian Falls firefighters are responding.

UPDATE 3:54 p.m.: A responder on scene says it looks like the female driver took out a mailbox and then her vehicle went into a ditch.

UPDATE 4:01 p.m.: The driver has a cut on her right hand but otherwise says she has no aches or pains. A responder says it appears her vehicle rolled over several times.

UPDATE 4:11 p.m.: The patient is being transported to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital in Williamsville.

UPDATE 4:14 p.m.: Pembroke and Indian Falls are back in service.

Small fire on roof at VA Medical Center, Batavia

A small fire is reported on the northwest corner of the roof on Building #4 at the VA Medical Center, located at 222 Richmond Ave. in Batavia. City firefighters are on scene and they report "there's a little smoke up there."

UPDATE 2:30 p.m.: The third platoon is called to stand by in the city fire hall.

UPDATE 2:34 p.m.: The small fire is described as "smoldering" and stems from roofing work. They are checking for extensions now.

UPDATE 2:42 p.m.: The fire is knocked down and they continue to check for extensions, reporting there is still some smoke coming from what is described as a balcony area.

UPDATE 2:50 p.m.: They plan to use a chainsaw to open up a portion of the roof to ensure there is no extension inside.

UPDATE 3:10 p.m.: The blaze is believed to have started when a worker used a heat gun while doing some lead paint abatement.

UPDATE 3:19 p.m.: The fire is completely out.

Three-car accident in Oakfield

An accident is reported in Oakfield. Three vehicles are involved, and in the third car, there's a man slumped over the steering wheel at 106 S. Main St. It is believed to have initially occurred on Orchard Road, for reasons that are unclear, those involved are in three different locations, spread over a mile-long area. An Alabama firefighter happens to be with one of the parties involved outside the village; she is said to be shaken up but otherwise OK. State troopers and medics are responding.

UPDATE 11:36 a.m.: Sheriff's deputies are also responding. Initial reports indicate that at South Main near Orchard, the driver of a green car "took out two others. They just didn't see each other." That driver was slumped over the steering wheel. The other vehicles are possibly at Route 63 and Fisher Road, and at Route 63 and the village line. Responders are taking more information and there is some confusion about the whole scene.

UPDATE 11:48 p.m.: Mercy medics are transporting the driver of the green car to UMMC. Oakfield Fire Department, which also responded to the scene, is back in service. The other people involved in the accident are not injured.

Car crash with injuries at Route 5 and Roanoke Road, Stafford

A two-car accident with injuries is reported at Route 5 and Roanoke Road. Stafford Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding. It is blocking traffic.

UPDATE 7:25 p.m.: Fire police from Le Roy are called to stop westbound traffic at Route 5 and Buckley Road.

UPDATE 7:29 p.m.: They're going to turn traffic around at the Red Osier Restaurant.

UPDATE 8:25 p.m.: The roadway is reopened. The Stafford assignment is back in service.

Car crash with injuries at Route 33 and West Bergen Road

A two-car accident with injuries is reported at Route 33 and West Bergen Road. Bergen Fire Department and Mercy EMS are responding.

UPDATE 7:11 p.m.: There are three vehicles involved. There was airbag deployment, but injuries appear to be minor. The westbound lane is blocked.

UPDATE 7:14 p.m.: They want traffic stopped at 33 and West Bergen Road "so nobody goes north."

UPDATE 7:39 p.m.: Bergen is back in service, with the exception of one unit. The roadway is being reopened.

Mulch fire by credit union on Veterans Memorial Drive

A mulch fire is reported at the ESL Federal Credit Union on Veterans Memorial Drive. Town of Batavia Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 4:49 p.m.: A fireman on scene reports it is a small mulch fire and calls for a brush truck to respond in non-emergency mode.

UPDATE 5 p.m.: The fire is out. Town of Batavia is back in service..

Car crash with minor injuries on Main Road, Pembroke

A two-car, minor injury accident is reported 1643 Main Road, between Boyce and Cleveland roads. East Pembroke Fire Department and Mercy EMS are responding.

UPDATE 7:43 p.m.: A car is blocking the westbound lane. A tow truck is called.

UPDATE 8:05 p.m.: East Pembroke is back in service.

Fight at Austin Park

A fight in progress is reported at Austin Park in the city. Police just arrived.

UPDATE 7:01 p.m.: "You better swing down. It's a pretty large gathering," says an officer on scene to another. The incident had migrated toward Jefferson, then to Washington and Bank, verbal at that point. "It looks like now they're dispersing."

UPDATE 7:04 p.m.: There were estimated to be 30 or 40 people involved. "Now they're at Summit, looks like a fight is going on there."

UPDATE 7:13 p.m.: Now the group, or what's left of it, is moving back to Austin Park and an officer is remaining on scene to monitor the situation.

Cornfield on fire off Lewiston Road in Alabama

A cornfield is reportedly on fire at 1534 Lewiston Road, near Church Street, in Alabama. Alabama Fire Department is en route.

UPDATE 12:26 p.m.: Fire police and an engine from Oakfield are requested. Smoke is blowing across the roadway.

UPDATE 12:37 p.m.: A tanker from Oakfield is called to the scene. Some firefighters are working at the back of the property to protect a barn. There's a brush fire nearby. Although the fire is not approaching the structure, there are strong winds blowing.

UPDATE 12:47 p.m.: Alabama command reports the fire is under control.

UPDATE 12:59 p.m.: The fire is out. The Alabama assignment is back in service.


Bus passenger threatens to shoot people in Rochester

A man who is a passenger on a Trailways passenger bus on Park Road in Batavia is reportedly threatening to shoot people once the bus arrives at its destination in Rochester. The bus driver is in a store asking that the man be removed from the bus. The suspect is described as 6 feet tall, wearing a yellow shirt and is said to be sitting in the seat right behind the driver. Multiple law enforcement units are responding.

UPDATE 12:48 p.m.: A Mercy ambulance is dispatched to the deli at 8204 Park Road to transport the man who allegedly made the threats to a mental health facility for evaluation.

Accident at Oak and Richmond in the city

A motor-vehicle accident with injuries is reported at Oak Street and Richmond Avenue. One person is complaining of a chest injury. City firefighters and Mercy EMS are responding.

UPDATE 6:26 p.m.: There are two vehicles involved. One person requires extrication.

UPDATE 6:39 p.m.: The patient has been extricated.

UPDATE 7:36 p.m.: One patient was transported to a hospital. City fire is back in service.

Doggie on the loose in Kmart

Elba student earns High Honors at University of New Hampshire

Lauren Burhans, of Elba, has earned High Honors for the spring semester of the 2011-2012 academic year at the University of New Hampshire.

Students named to the Deans' List at the University of New Hamsphire have earned recognition through their superior scholastic performance. Students with a 3.5 to 3.69 average are awarded high honors.

Brush fire off Route 63, south of Village of Oakfield

A brush fire is reported off Route 63, just south of the Village of Oakfield. Oakfield Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 3:17 p.m.: The fire is knocked down.

UPDATE 3:19 p.m.: Oakfield is back in service.

Forty-five local students make the Deans' List at SUNY Brockport

Law and Order: Investigation into stolen ATVs leads to arrest of Alexander man

Nicholas Adam Antonucci, 25, of 4192 Broadway Road, Alexander, is charged with burglary, 3rd, two counts of grand larceny, 3rd, and one count of grand larceny, 4th, following a traffic stop on Ellicott Street in Batavia on June 26. Sheriff's K-9 Deputy Brian Thompson stopped Antonucci to arrest him on a warrant out of Attica Town Court, which was ordered following an investigation of stolen four-wheelers and dirt bikes from homes in the Attica area. The suspect in the thefts was arraigned in Attica Town Court and put in Wyoming County Jail on $100,000 bail. In addition, a search warrant was executed at Antonucci's residence and a 2009 Dodge pickup truck was seized. The investigation is continuing and numerous charges are pending. Those working the case include Genesee County Sheriff's investigators Timothy Weis and Chris Kautz, State Police Investigator Scott Mills and Trooper John Szymkowiak, and in Wyoming County, Sheriff's Investigator Aaron Anderson, Deputy Steve Miller, Undersheriff Greg Rudolph and Lt. Ed Till.

Douglas Peter Pytlik, 30, of Linwood Avenue, North Tonawanda, is charged with disorderly conduct and was arraigned in Darien Town Court at 1 a.m. this morning. He is accused of walking westbound on Route 77, in the middle of the road, obstructing traffic from passing by him. Sheriff's Sgt. Gregory Walker made the arrest.

Brent Edward Bierman, 23, of Wadsworth Hill Road, Scion, is charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI -- driving with a BAC of .18 percent or higher, driving without headlights, and not wearing a seat belt. Bierman was arrested at 1:03 a.m. this morning following a traffic stop on Sumner Road in the Town of Darien. Sheriff's Deputy Jason E. Saile made the arrest.

Car crashes into bridge on eastbound Thruway

A car crashed into a bridge on the eastbound Thruway at mile marker 389 or at 384.3. There are believed to be injuries but there are conflicting reports as to the location. Town of Batavia and Le Roy fire units are responding along with Mercy EMS.

UPDATE 5:38 p.m.: The location is determined to be mile marker 384.6 eastbound. Traffic is starting to back up. One car is blocking the driving lane. "It's the bridge over the creek."

UPDATE 5:41 p.m.: This is in Le Roy's fire district. Town of Batavia is returning to service. A fireman on scene says the driver is just shaken up but there are no serious injuries. A medic will evaluate her.

Le Roy police find knife and cocaine after man allegedly chased person with his car

A 31-year-old Le Roy man who lives on School Street was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count each of criminal possession of a weapon, 4th, menacing, 2nd, and criminal possession of a controlled substance, 7th. All are Class A misdemeanors.

Tommy L. Mobley was arrested by Le Roy police after a reported disturbance on Hilltop Drive in the village in which he was allegedly chasing another person down the street with his vehicle. He also allegedly confronted the victim with a knife, threatening the victim and placing that person in fear of injury, according to information from Det. John Condidorio.

The disturbance allegedly started when Mobley thought the victim had unlawfully entered a relative's residence. During the investigation, a knife and cocaine were found, allegedly in Mobley's possession. Mobley was arraigned in Le Roy Town Court and released under supervision of Genesee Justice.

Salvation Army's free annual Summer Block Party

The Salvation Army would like to invite the community to its free annual Summer Block Party to be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 5. The location is 529 E. Main St. (across from Tulley's Restaurant).

There will be games, hot dogs, snow cones, dodge ball, basketball and prizes. Parents will also be able to sign up their children for the Summer Super Sparks program.
