On Saturday, July 28, the Town of Batavia Fire Department will hold its 13th Annual Harley-Davidson Fat Boy Raffle. (The model is a 2012 FLSTFB.)

The event runs from 8 p.m. until midnight -- rain or shine. It will feature a beer tent and live entertainment by the band 7th Heaven. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase from Alex’s Place.

The event is free admission and open to the public, a ticket purchase is not necessary to attend. Tickets are limited to 2,500 and the money raised benefits the town fire department. Each ticket costs $20 and they are still available, sold on a first-come-first-serve basis. 

This year we are offering a $10,000 cash prize in lieu of the motorcycle to the Grand Prize winner. They will have the option of the bike or the cash prize.

Law enforcement is searching for a white male wearing a white tank top who is suspected of stealing a cartload of items from Tops Market in Le Roy. He allegedly left the store with the cart and then went across the street to the Dollar General store.

He is said to have gone in back of Dollar General and when spotted by employees, he abandoned the shopping cart and fled on foot eastbound "toward the bridge." Officers are still scouring the area but have yet to locate him.

UPDATE 1:43 p.m.: The suspect is believed to be about 16 or 17 years old.

UPDATE 2:05 p.m.: Police think it is possible that the suspect had a partner in crime, possibly driving a vehicle. That's because the loot was bulky -- "13 or 14 cases, give or take, of Red Bull."

UPDATE 2:42 p.m.: After speaking with a person who saw the suspect, he is further described as being "very thin" and clean cut, a veritable military-style cut, and wearing full-length blue jeans. Officers found a standard white shirt abandoned along with the Red Bull, thus he might have originally worn that over the tank top he was last spotted in.

A dog has been locked inside a white Ford Chevy Equinox for at least 10 minutes in the parking lot of Target in Batavia. A Sheriff's deputy is responding.

The vehicle is registered to a person in Darien.

Sheep on the lam have been discovered and officers are working diligently to corral their woolly quarry, located at 1833 Genesee St., between Ellenwood and Colby roads in Pembroke.

But it seems some of them do not want to go gentle into this good afternoon, nor quietly.

"You got a lasso or rope? This one's not going to go willingly," says an officer.

It is decided that a lasso would be employed.

UPDATE 12:57 p.m.: A ewe has been spotted by a hedgerow. "She's stopped running. I think she's too hot." And the officer is hot on her heels.

UPDATE 1:04 p.m.: "I'm still looking for an owner. I've went east, and haven't found anyone to the west yet." The deputy says that after checking four houses east of the location and three thus far to the west, he is heading now toward West Batavia to continue the search.

UPDATE 1:11 p.m.: "The unknown is in a hedgerow in the woods. It's unable to be caught. So I don't know what they are going to do," reports a deputy, who then went back in service. There is reportedly a sheep farm in the vicinity, off of Route 5, and deputies are heading there. The search continues.

UPDATE 2:24 p.m.: Deputies are returning to Genesee Street after locating the possible owner -- in Corfu -- who is also going along to determine if the sheep are his.

UPDATE 2:51 p.m.: "The sheep caper has been completed," a deputy tells the Genesee County Emergency Dispatch Center. The stocky, hooved mammals are grudgingly going right back where they came from -- to property owned by a fencing company (we can't make this stuff up) located "off Route 77, south of the viaduct." It's Bellevue Farms. (It would not be surprising if the owner scolded them -- futilely of course -- for being very BAAAD.)

A roll-off metal scrap bin is on fire at Eddy Arnold Scrap Processors, Inc., located at 2216 Angling Road in Corfu. East Pembroke Fire Department is responding. The bin is next to the office.

UPDATE 5:53 p.m.: The fire is out. They are checking for hot spots.

UPDATE 6:05 p.m.: East Pembroke is back in service.

A red car in the parking lot of Walmart allegedly has a dog locked inside with the windows rolled up this summer afternoon. A Sheriff's deputy is responding to the complaint.

UPDATE 4:13 p.m.: The deputy is going to have someone at the customer service desk inside the store page the registered owner of the car over the PA system. The car is registered to a woman in Stafford.

UPDATE 4:22 p.m.: A few minutes ago, the deputy reported "The owner has come out of Walmart and is taking the dog away." Next, the officer asked what the temperature is and a dispatcher replied: 84 degrees.

UPDATE 4:32 p.m.: Typically on these types of calls, no other information is put forth over the scanner. If a citation is issued, there's no press release about it. But we will do a follow up on this issue soon.

Two vehicles crashed at Main and Bank streets in the city. There are no injuries, but it is blocking traffic, which the police are handling.

PHOTO (by Howard): I was walking on East Main just west of Jackson, heard the collision behind me, turned around, snapped this shot before the smoke even cleared.

A controlled burn at 311 Bank St. is requiring the response of city firefighters and mutual aid from the Town of Batavia. According to authorities, this address has previously been advised regarding the requirements of controlled burns.

UPDATE 10:30 p.m. (approximately): Fire is out.

A person in the area of Crosby and Judge roads in Alabama reports being shot at with a .22-caliber rifle by someone driving a pickup truck registered to a driver on Ham Road in Basom. Law enforcement is investigating.

UPDATE: 11:45 p.m.: A deputy reports recovering a bullet. No further details available at this time.

We need help with food! With all the poodles we rescued recently, we are in need of small dog kibble. Some are missing teeth and they all have small mouths so we are in desperate need of small dog kibble!

It is that time of year again and we find ourselves needing dry kitten food to feed our many growing kittens in foster care and those starting to return for adoption at the shelter and Petco. The community has been good to us in the past and we hope we can count on you again to donate dry kitten food to help all our cute kittens grow up healthy and strong!

Please drop it by the shelter during adoption hours.

The 8th Annual Taste of Stafford, sponsored by the Stafford Historical Society, will take place at Ilette Park from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 12.

The park is located at the corner of routes 5 and 237.

There will be entertainment, foods to purchase and fun to be had by all.

To commorate the 1812 Bicentennial, Ford Best will appear in the 1812-era military garments and the mode of the Militia of America will also be represented.

Come and bring your most comfortable lawn chairs and visit with friends, relatives and neighbors. Should it rain, the event will be held at the Stafford Fire Department.

A two-car accident is reported at 277 Genesee St. in Darien. It is blocking traffic and there is debris in the roadway. Unknown injuries. Darien Fire Department and medics are responding.

UPDATE 4:29 p.m.: A responder on scene reports there is only one car involved and it is not blocking traffic.

UPDATE 4:42 p.m.: Both people in the vehicle are sign-offs, according to medics, but because one is a minor, that person will be transported to UMMC for evaluation and the parent so notified.

The suspect in a stabbing that occurred shortly before 1 a.m. today on Lewis Place in Batavia was arrested and jailed without bail. Adante L. Davis, of 218 State St., Apt. 4, Batavia, is charged with second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon, 3rd.

The victim was treated at UMMC for non-life-threatening injuries and released. Davis was also treated at UMMC for injuries allegedly sustained in the physical altercation. Davis is scheduled to appear in court tommorow at 11:30 a.m.

The case was investigated by Officer Frank Klimjack and Officer Eric Bolles.

Mercy medics are responding to Dwyer Stadium in the City of Batavia where a female behind the third-base line was reportedly struck in the head by a baseball bat. There's a Muckdogs game in progress.

UPDATE 8:11 p.m.: The woman is 50 and was struck by a flying bat from 30 feet away. She is said to have head and hand injuries and is arriving at UMMC.

A young child fell off her bike and struck her head on the pavement at 4 Lewis Place in the City of Batavia. She is unconscious. Mercy medics and city fire are en route.

UPDATE 7:19 p.m.: The girl is 12 years old and lost consciousness for about 30 seconds. She is now conscious, alert and in stable condition. She has elbow and knee pain and pain on her right side. She was not wearing a helmet. Mercy Medic #1 is taking her to UMMC.

Two women are reportedly having a heated argument over clothes at the Golden Coin Laundry on East Main Street in Batavia. Police are responding.

A two-car accident with injuries is reported at Route 5 and Clipnock Road. Stafford Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 1:17 p.m.: A second ambulance is requested. It is reported that a car was rear-ended. The availability of Mercy Flight is being checked.

UPDATE 1:18 p.m.: The vehicles are off the road, not blocking. There is no entrapment, but head injuries are reported. Mercy Flight out of Buffalo is on an in-air standby.

UPDATE 1:24 p.m.: Traffic control is requested.

UPDATE 1:25 p.m.: Mercy Flight is cancelled.

UPDATE 1:48 p.m.: Mercy Medic #3 is transporting one patient to Strong Memorial Hospital.

UPDATE 1:55 p.m.: Mercy Medic #1 is transporting two patients -- mother and daughter -- to UMMC. The driver is 48 years old and has neck pain and a right wrist abrasion. Her air bag did deploy. The passenger is 13 and has slight pain in her right shoulder. Her air bag did not deploy. She is able to walk into the facility. Neither person lost consciousness. Stafford Fire Department is back in service.

UPDATE 2:04 p.m. (by Howard): The driver of the Mercury Mountaineer reportedly told a deputy she didn't see the silver sedan stopping to make a left-hand turn and then couldn't stop in time to avoid a collision.

The driver of an SUV reportedly drove into some trees an the edge of BJ's Wholesale Club in Batavia. He got out of the vehicle and was obviously angry. No one is sure what happened or why. Sheriff's deputies are responding.
