Accident with injury reported at routes 5 and 77

A two-car accident, with two youths complaining of neck pain, is reported at the intersection of routes 5 and 77. Indian Falls rescue is on scene and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 11:09 a.m.: Both patients are being taken to UMMC.

UPDATE 11:11 a.m.: The Indian Falls assignment is back in service.

UPDATE 11:15 a.m.: The medic says the patients are female friends ages 13 and 16 who were traveling in a Ford pickup truck when it was rear-ended by another pickup truck, occupied by their parents, at 5 miles an hour. The trucks were barely damaged. They live in Ontario.

HLOM presentation on brides, also final week of wedding gown show

Genesee County Historian Susan Conklin is giving a presentation "The Brides of Genesee  -- for Better or Worse" at the Holland Land Office Museum at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 26.

Refreshments will be served.

The museum will be open to give people the opportunity to view the exhibit "Treasured Wedding Memories" before it is taken down, the first week of August.   

Anne Marie Starowitz and Kathy Jasinski give tours and share tidbits about the gowns and pictures in the exhibit.

HLOM is located at 131 W. Main St. in the City of Batavia.

Dog lovers welcome to be in this afternoon's county fair parade

If you would like to march with a nice dog in this afternoon's parade for the 2012 Genesee County Fair, the Volunteers for Animals would love to have you. Volunteers may walk with dogs from the shelter and personal dogs are welcome as well.

Lineup will be at Department of Social Services 5130 E. Main St. Road (Route 5) at 5:30, with the parade starting at 6:30 to the fairgrounds. Park at the fairgrounds or start site.

Rollover accident on North Byron Road, Elba

A one-car rollover with possibly minor injuries is reported at 4857 N. Byron Road. The occupants are out of the vehicle. Elba Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 11:44 a.m.: Fire police are responding to the scene for traffic control.

UPDATE 11:46 a.m.: Mercy medics are now available and will be responding.

Car wreck with injuries on eastbound Thruway

A two-car accident with injuries is reported on the eastbound Thruway at mile marker 402.4. There are two patients. There is a lot of traffic backed up as a result. Indian Falls and Pembroke fire departments and two ambulances are requested out of Darien.

UPDATE 11:32 a.m.: The Darien ambulances are having difficulty getting to the scene because there is virtual gridlock throughout Darien due to concert-bound traffic at the theme park. Mercy rigs are busy elsewhere.

UPDATE 11:56 a.m.: Pembroke and Indian Falls are back in service. Two patients were taken to ECMC.

ATV accident with injuries on Pearl Street Road

A 4-wheeler accident with injuries is reported a 3808 Pearl St. Road in the Town of Batavia. Mercy EMS and East Pembroke Fire Department are responding.

UPDATE 7:17 p.m.: East Pembroke's fire equipment is being held in quarters. The ambulance is continuing.

UPDATE 7:29 p.m.: No word on injuries. The assignment is back in service.

Person struck by 4-wheeler in Elba

A subject was reportedly struck by a 4-wheeler at 3999 Ridge Road in Elba. Mercy EMS is responding along with Elba Fire Department.

UPDATE 7:18 p.m.: A responder on scene reports there are two patients.

UPDATE 7:39 p.m.: Turns out, no need for an ambulance. Elba is back in service.

Man on South Spruce Street said to be looking in windows, acting suspiciously

Batavia police are looking for a man who a caller reports is acting suspiciously, peeking in windows and going to houses "presenting himself aggressively." It is not clear whether he is selling something. He was last spotted looking into windows at 5 S. Spruce St. He is black, about 140 pounds, wearing a blue T-shirt, shorts, bright green sneakers and toting a backpack.

Dog locked in red Chevy Malibu at Walmart

A dog is locked in a red Chevy Malibu in the 10th row of the parking lot at Walmart. A Sheriff's deputy is responding.

UPDATE 7:13 p.m.: The deputy reports that all four windows are down and the dog has water to drink. Despite these precautions against overheating, someone called dispatch with concerns.

Tractor-trailer with brakes on fire in front of Kiwanis Park, Batavia

A tractor-trailer's brakes are reportedly on fire on Route 5, in front of Kiwanis Park. It is hauling another trailer. Smoke is coming from the tractor, according to a responder at the scene. Town of Batavia Fire Department is en route.

UPDATE 4:36 p.m.: The fire is out. Town of Batavia is back in service.

Truck's hook smashes car windshield on Route 238, Darien

A motor-vehicle accident with very minor injuries is reported on Route 238, just south of Route 20. Darien fire and ambulance are responding. A large hook from a truck smashed through struck the windshield of a car.

UPDATE 3:31 p.m.: The driver of the car has glass in her eyes, which medics will try to flush out.

UPDATE 3:37 p.m.: Now they say the windshield is simply cracked and the patient will be a sign-off.

UPDATE 3:48 p.m.: Darien is back in service.

Possible electrical fire in wall of Bethany home

A possible electrical fire in a wall is reported at a residence at 4646 Conway Road in Bethany. The owner reports an outlet is hot and he smells smoke. No flames are showing. A Bethany firefighter on scene confirms nothing is showing. Alexander is also responding, non-emergency mode.

UPDATE 3:04 p.m.: They are going to scan the wall with an infrared camera.

UPDATE 3:12 p.m.: Alexander is returning, in service.

UPDATE 3:22 p.m.: The problem has been handled. Bethany is back in service.

Dog left in green car in front of Michael's craft store

A large dog is locked in an older green car in front of Michael's craft store in the Target shopping center. It is barking furiously. A deputy is on scene and reports "I'll be attempting to locate (the owner). The dog is very aggressive. You can't get near it." The car is registered to a man in the City of Batavia.

UPDATE 3:02 p.m.: When the deputy first arrived, he noted the windows are down. An animal control officer is responding.

Dog stifling in black sedan at Walmart

A dog is reportedly locked in a black four-door sedan -- "with minimal air" -- in the parking lot of Walmart, near the food entrance. At 6 p.m., the temperature was 88, according to dispatch. Law enforcement is responding.

Police looking for solicitor on Burke Drive of free vacuuming service

City police are responding to an address on Burke Drive after it was reported that a young female, approximately 20 years old, was in the area soliciting free vacuuming service. A white vehicle, unfamiliar to the caller, was reported to be parked on the street, however it is now gone.

Fight reported in parking lot of Le Roy apartment complex

A fight was reported not long ago in the parking lot of the Creekside Manor Apartments, located at 61 Myrtle St. in the Village of Le Roy. When police arrived, they found nothing. A caller told dispatch he was going outside with a crowbar but was told to remain inside. Now, two ambulances are called to the address, to the last building on the right. One person has trouble breathing, but it's not clear why the other medic is needed.

UPDATE 4:48 p.m.: One medic is back in service after a patient signed off.

Field fire in Elba off Drake Street Road

A field fire is reported at 4271 Drake St. Road in Elba. Elba Fire Department is responding. The location is between South Main Street and Weatherwax Road. Fire equipment from the towns of Oakfield, Batavia and Byron are also requested.

UPDATE 4:11 p.m.: Drake Street Road and Weatherwax are being shut down.

UPDATE 4:16 p.m.: Fire police are stationed at routes 262 and 98. A Bergen tanker is requested to fill in at Byron's hall. The wind is 10 mph out of the east.

UPDATE 5:01 p.m.: Batavia and Oakfield are back in service.

UPDATE 5:06 p.m.: The fire is out. Elba, Byron and Bergen are back in service. The roadway is reopened.
