Julia Wesley Haring Post, 80, was called home by her Lord and Savior on November, 10 2014 while residing at West Park Hospital LTCC. Judy was born September 29, 1934 to Muriel and Samuel Westbrook Haring in Batavia, NY, where she grew up and graduated from high school. Judy married her high school sweetheart, Gordon (Butch) Post in 1953 in their hometown where they owned and operated a service station. Over the next several years, they were bless with five children. They built a home in Pavilion, NY, and while Butch drove tractor-trailer over the road, Judy put her energy into keeping their home and raising their children. She was a devoted, loving wife and her family always came first. Once their children were older, Judy worked outside of the home and at an electronics factory in a nearby town.
In 1981, Butch and Judy followed their dream west to Wyoming where they built a one-room log cabin in the peaceful foothills of Wapiti Valley. Judy was employed by the Buffalo Bill Historical Center and later worked at Steck's Gocery. Prior to entering long-term care in 2010, she was blessed with several years at their home cabin in Wapiti enjoying the panoramic views, peace, solitude and abundance of wildlife that only life in God's Country can offer. She was an avid hunter, outdoors woman and nature-lover all of her life. Judy loved a pristine, snow covered winter's day and could be found hiking their mountain road, cross-country skiing or hunting with Butch in one of their favorite spots up the North Fork. Judy's great love and appreciation for music would often find her dancing, even while confined to a wheelchair in recent years.
Judy was fun to be around and whenever the family was together there was much laughter. Her quick, beautiful smile and bright personality made a memorable impression on everyone she met. Judy had great affection and appreciation for her caregivers. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her. Judy had a longtime, personal relationship with Jesus Christ and knowing she is home with the Lord is a great comfort to her family.
Judy is survived by her husband of 61 years, Gordon (Butch) Post of Wapiti, son Greg (Joan) Post of Batavia; daughters Jeffi (Richard) Kinney of Powell, Wyoming, Jackie (Joe) Shumacher of Wapiti, Wyoming, Jodi (Tom) Wilcox of Kent, Wyoming and Jaime (Byron) DeWitt of Pavilion. She is also survived by hersister Dixie Hartley of Hilton, nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildrenand several nieces and nephews.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, sister Musette Haring and infant grandson, Jacob Post.
There will be no calling hours. Arrangements will be made by Ballard Funeral Home for a private celebration of life and burial at Riverside Cemetery in cody. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West Park Hospital Foundation, 707 Sheridan Ave., Cody, WY 82414 or a charity of choice.
CO activation with ill affects to occupants on State Street
City fire and Mercy medics are responding to State Street for a report of a CO detector activation with ill affects for the occupants. A female, now across the street, says she has a headache. Her children are no longer inside, although an elderly man is believed to still be in there.
Garage fire on Indian Falls Road
A fully involved garage fire with exposures to other property is reported at 2023 Indian Falls Road. Indian Falls and East Pembroke fire departments are responding. The call has gone to a second alarm. Oakfield, Pembroke, Darien, Elba and Alabama are also called in and Town of Batavia is asked to stand by in East Pembroke Fire Hall.
UPDATE 1 p.m.: Corfu Fire Police are to shut down Indian Falls Road at Route 77.
UPDATE 1:19 p.m.: Howard at the scene reports flames are no longer showing. The garage is a total loss and the nearby house "has significant heat damage (outside)."
Possible electrical fire inside wall of Ross Street apartment
City fire is responding to 174 Ross St., lower apt., for the odor of something electrical burning inside a wall.
UPDATE 11:07 a.m.: A city code enforcement officer is called in.
Richard R. (Rip) King
Richard R. (Rip) King, 72, of Corfu, a heavy equipment operator for Local 17 Operating Engineers for more than 30 years, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2014, at Crossroads House surrounded by his family.
Rip was born May 29, 1942, in Burlington, Vermont. He was the son of the late John King Sr. and Anita Laramee King.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Karen Balduf King, son Brian S. (Christine) King of Batavia, Colleen R. King of Batavia, and grandchildren Christopher B. King of Corfu, Leanne King of Batavia, Brittany K. Rodon of Wyoming, Anthony Armstrong, and Cody Kosiorek of Batavia, three sisters, Theresa (late James) Pfalzer, Sandra (James) Smith, and Phyllis King of Oakfield. Rip was brother to the late Betty (Elias) Gould, John G. (Mary) King Jr., and Anita (Ronald) Loveland.
Friends may call from Noon to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at C. B. Beach and Son Mortuary of Corfu, where a brief service will follow. A reception will be held at the Coon Club, on Hopkins Road, Batavia, at 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crossroads House or Genesee Cancer Assistance, both of Batavia, NY.

Structure fire on Wood Street in the city
Smoke is reportedly coming from the house at 8 Wood St., located between Jackson Street and Pringle Avenue. Smoke is coming from the attic, too. City police are on scene and city fire is responding.
UPDATE 7 a.m.: The incident has gone to a second alarm.
UPDATE 7:05 a.m. Alexander's Fast Team and Elba fire is called to the scene. Mercy medics are requested for an evaluation. Town of Batavia fire is called to fill in at the city fire hall on Evans Street. Also, D "ESU 2" is called to the scene along with all off-duty platoons.
UPDATE 7:14 a.m.: Command reports fire knocked down. Overhaul started. The blaze is believed to have started in the kitchen.
UPDATE 7:27 a.m.: Alexander is returning to quarters.
UPDATE 7:50 a.m. (by Howard, info and photo from Alecia Kaus/Video News Service): A resident who lived on the second floor was rescued from the roof. A dog died. The fire started in the kitchen. Two people downstairs were evacuated. The second-floor resident is being evaluated in an ambulance on scene.

Fire reported inside classroom at O-A School
An unknown type fire is reported in a classroom at Oakfield-Alabama School, 7100 Lewiston Road. Command on scene tells firefighters to respond non-emergency.
Grand Jury: Man indicted on multiple counts for alleged sex acts with minor
Beniluis Ruiz is indicted for first-degree sexual abuse, a Class D felony, for allegedly subjecting another person to sexual contact in the Spring of 2013 when that person was physically helpless and therefore incapable of consent.
All counts stem from alleged incidents in the Town of Pavilion.
- In count two, he is accused of criminal sexual act, 3rd, a Class E felony, for allegedly engaging in oral sexual conduct with a person less than 17 years old in December 2013 when he was age 21 or older;
- In count three, he is indicted for third-degree rape, a Class E felony. It is alleged that in December 2013 he engaged in sexual intercourse with a person under 17 years old and he was age 21 or older;
- In count four, he is indicted for criminal sexual act, 3rd, a Class E felony, for allegedly engaging in oral sexual conduct on a second occasion with a person less that 17 years old in December 2013 while he was age 21 or older;
- In count five, Ruiz is accused of criminal sexual act, 3rd, a Class E felony, for allegedly engaging in oral sexual conduct on Jan. 5 with a person under age 17 when he was 21 or older;
- In count six, he is accused of criminal sexual act, 3rd, a Class E felony, for allegedly engaging in oral sexual conduct on Feb. 10 with a person under age 17 while he was 21 years old or older;
- In count seven, he is indicted for third-degree criminal sexual act, a Class E felony, for allegedly engaging in oral sexual conduct on a second occasion on Feb. 10 with a person under age 17 while he was age 21 or older;
- In count eight, Ruiz is indicted for third-degree rape, a Class E felony, for engaging in sexual intercourse on Feb. 10 with a person under age 17 while he was age 21 or older;
- In count nine, he is accused of endangering the welfare of a child, a Class A misdemeanor, for allegedly knowingly acting on Jan. 4-5 in a manner likely to be injurious to the physical, mental or moral welfare of a child under age 17;
- In count 10, he is accused of the same actions as in count nine, but involving a second child under age 17;
- In count 11, Ruiz is indicted for unlawfully dealing with a child, 1st, a Class A misdemeanor, for on Jan. 4-5 allegedly giving or selling or causing to be given or sold, alcoholic beverage(s) to a person under age 21;
- In count 12, he is accused of the same crime as count 11, but involving a second person under age 21.
Matthew D. Marvin and Brenden R. Jones are accused of fourth-degree grand larceny, a Class E felony. It is alleged that on June 20 in the Town of Batavia, they stole property valued in excess of $1,000, including baby monitors, K-9 Advantix products, Braun electric razors, Oral-B electric toothbrush, computer software, router, "spyder" wire and other products valued at $2,928.84 from Walmart. In count two, they are accused of fifth-degree conspiracy, a Class A misdemeanor, for allegedly intending to commit a felony on June 20. They allegedly agreed with one or more persons to engage in this criminal conduct.
Christopher M. Colantonio is indicted for criminal possession of a forged instrument, 2nd, a Class D felony. It is alleged that on April 3 at a bank in the City of Batavia, he cashed a bogus check for $100, which was made payable to him and taken from another person's account. In count two of the indictment, he is accused of petit larceny, a Class A misdemeanor, for allegedly stealing $100 by means of the aforementioned forged check.
Car vs. motorized scooter accident in Walgreen's parking lot, Le Roy
A car vs. motorized scooter accident, with injuries, is reported in the Walgreen's parking lot in Le Roy. The address is 8 W. Main St. Le Roy medics are on scene and firefighters are responding.
One-vehicle rollover, minor injuries, on Transit Road, Pavilion
A one-vehicle rollover accident is reported at 9867 Transit Road. It's at the intersection with East Bethany-Le Roy Road. Minor injuries. Pavilion Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding.
UPDATE 9:16 p.m.: Law enforcement is on scene.
UPDATE 9:34 a.m.: A patient is being transported to Strong Memorial Hospital.
UPDATE 9:43 a.m.: The Pavilion assignment is back in service.
Fire inside Walmart's food section
A fire is reported at the Walmart Super Center on Veterans Memorial Drive. The building has been evacuated. Flames are visible on the wall in the meat department of the food store. Town of Batavia Fire Department is responding.
UPDATE 7:52 a.m.: A fire is confirmed inside the meat cooler. Mutual aid from Oakfield fire is requested along with all available manpower from Town of Batavia.
UPDATE 8:06 a.m.: Oakfield is told to continue non-emergency with a fill-in unit for Town of Batavia's fire hall.
UPDATE 8:53 a.m.: Fire is out. A Health Department rep inspected the meat cooler and cleared the scene.
Driver Jake Baumeister injured in Batavia Downs spill

Jacob "Jake" Baumeister, a 24-year-old provisional reinsman, was released from the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia late Wednesday night (Nov. 5) after being involved in a racing accident at Batavia Downs.
Baumeister, driving 99-1 shot Vital Speed, appeared to hit the wheel of early leader (53-1) Call Her Quick with Jack Flanigen at the controls, as the field of winners of one but not more than three pacers were heading to the three-quarters.
Call Her Quick got rough gaited and went off stride. Baumeister and Vital Speed were directly behind and couldn’t avoid the breaker and went down. Baumeister was catapulted from the race bike.
Also involved in the accident was Justrollwithit and driver Truman Gale. They appeared to hook the wheel of the sulky of Vital Speed. Gale, a Vernon Downs regular, was also catapulted from the sulky.
Jacob Baumeister, the son of longtime Western New York trainer/driver Mike Baumeister and grandson of Ronald, who also raced at Batavia and Buffalo Raceway, suffered a concussion and facial lacerations. Gale walked off under his own power.
Vital Speed suffered minor abrasions and walked back to the paddock while Justrollwithit, who ran loose after unseating Gale, was apprehended by paddock personnel with no apparent injuries.
“We were definitely lucky that involved parties will be okay,” said Todd Haight, director/GM of live racing. “That was a very nasty spill. Jake is the nicest young man you’re ever going to meet and we all wish him a speedy recovery.”
Gillam-Grant Community Center named 'Partner-in-Preservation' by Bergen Swamp Preservation Society

The Bergen Swamp Preservation Society (BSPS) awarded two "Partner-in-Preservation" Awards at the Society's annual meeting held Oct. 26, 2014 in Caledonia. The "Partner-in-Preservation" award is given to an individual or organization for partnering with the Bergen Swamp Preservation Society to preserve and protect the native flora and fauna of New York State.
The corporate award was received by Peggy Swapceinski, executive director of the Gillam-Grant Community Center (GGCC), Bergen. The GGCC was recognized for its support of our Bergen Swamp property in Byron and Bergen. The GGCC hosted the meeting place to begin and end the Bergen Swamp Spring Pilgrimage tour of orchids. For more than 20 years the GGCC served as custodian of BSPS document archives. Recently, the GGCC hosted a community "meet and greet" produced by the Seneca Park Zoo and the BSPS. A live Eastern Massasauga rattlesnake and a live spotted turtle was displayed to a crowd of more than 100 local community members. These two indigenous reptile species are listed as endangered by New York State and can still be found in the Bergen Swamp. The Gillam-Grant Community Center was nominated for this award by Society Trustee John Adamski, of Brighton.
The individual award was received by Joseph Whitcomb, a long serving trustee. Whitcomb resides in Newark and was awarded for his long service on behalf of the Zurich Bog property in Arcadia and to the Society. He served the BSPS for more than 40 years as a Society trustee, president, Zurich Bog Property chairperson and as a personal inspiration to the current trustees. Whitcomb laid the first black locust boardwalk trail into Zurich Bog. This trail enables visitor access to the orchids and carnivorous plants found in this National Natural Landmark. Whitcomb oversaw the acquisition of four additional parcels of land to the BSPS Zurich Bog property. The most recent was an 18-acre parcel that he personally purchased and gifted to the BSPS for preservation and protection of the native wetland plants. Whitcomb was nominated for this award by Society trustee Lee Drake Sr., of Bloomfield.
The Bergen Swamp Preservation Society is the first and oldest private ecological preservation land trust in the United States. The Society was chartered in 1936 by the New York State Department of Education as a "Living Museum." Since its charter, the Society has been operated by volunteers. The Society has a membership of 400 persons and corporations. The Society owns and manages five separate properties in Upstate New York. Two of the Society's properties are recognized by Federal Department of Interior as National Natural Landmarks: the Bergen Swamp (Bergen and Byron, NY) and the Zurich Bog (Arcadia, NY). The Society is renowned for the 38 species of native orchids, three species of native carnivorous plants and many other rare wetland plants that are protected on the Society's properties.
Bazooka Terror tallies her 10th triumph at Batavia Downs; Three horses involved in 8th race accident

Bazooka Terror is known for her explosive come-from-behind finishes and there is nothing that makes her driver Kevin Cummings happier than to see a speed duel in front of him early. That's exactly what happened in the $9,500 Open mares pacing feature at Batavia Downs on Wednesday night (Nov. 5) and it provided the classy 5-year-old the perfect recipe for success en route to scoring her tenth victory of the year.
As the race unfolded, Mondatta (Dave McNeight III) and Itstimeformetofly (Drew Monti) refused to play nice on the front end. Mondatta would not let Itstimeformetofly go and Itstimeformetofly would not take a seat behind Mondatta. As a result, the two battled through fractions of :26.4 and :55.4 before Itstimeformetofly finally took the front and crossed over to the pylons. Heading up the backside it became apparent that the early pace was taking its toll and Cummings didn't waste any time pulling the trigger. He tipped the big mare three-deep from sixth and circled the entire field past the three-quarter pole. From there Bazooka Terror just paced away to score a decisive six-length victory in 1:55. Mondatta came back on to be second and Itstimeformetofly hung in for third.
Besides pushing Bazooka Terror's win total to double digits, the victory also boosted her annual earnings to $79,269 for owner Leonard Segall. Bazooka Terror is trained by James Clouser Jr.
The eighth race was marred by an unfortunate accident when the leader Call Her Quick (Jack Flanigen) made a break that caused Vital Speed (Jake Baumeister) and Justrollwithit (Truman Gale) to pile into her as she altered her speed. This sent both trailing drivers to the track. Fortunately when it happened, the two were at the back of the pack and there were no other horses behind them. Driver Truman Gale was alright and got right up. Jake Baumeister was assisted up and taken to the hospital for treatment of a possible head injury. The downed horse got up, the loose horse was caught and both suffered only minor abrasions.
Driver Drew Monti scored a driving triple with Donegal Jim ($2.80), Feets of Magic ($3.90) and Rashabec ($10.80) while the meet's leading driver Kevin Cummings steered home two winners.
Racing resumes at Batavia Downs on Friday (Nov. 7) with a 6:35 post time.
More fire hydrants flushed today south of East Main and east of Jackson streets
The City of Batavia Fire Department will be flushing fire hydrants again today, Thursday Nov. 5, from approximately 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the general area south of East Main Street and east of Jackson Street. Homes and businesses nearby will be affected.
These tests may result in a temporary discoloration of water in that area. As in the past, please do not attempt to wash any clothing if your water appears discolored.

Big rig strikes pole, yanks down wires and lands in front yard on Main Road, Pembroke
A tractor-trailer struck a pole, tore down wires and landed on its side in the front yard at 258 Main Road, Pembroke. Unknown injuries. Pembroke and Indian Falls fire departments are responding along with Mercy medics, non-emergency. Eastbound traffic will be shut down at Crittenden Road.
UPDATE 6:40 a.m.: National Grid has dispatched a repair crew, which has an ETA of about 30 minutes. Law enforcement is at the scene, too.
UPDATE 6:49 a.m.: An engine from Akron Fire Department is called in to provide mutual aid.

Muckdogs announce 2015 schedule

The Batavia Muckdogs, Class A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, have announced their schedule for the 2015 season. Batavia will open the 2015 season at home on Friday, June 19th, when the Auburn Doubledays visit Dwyer Stadium.
The Muckdogs will host their annual Independence Day celebration on July 3rd this year, as they are not home on July 4th. The Muckdogs also have a home game scheduled for Father's Day (June 21) this season. In addition to their Pinckney Division rivals, the Muckdogs will welcome the Boston Red Sox (Lowell), Detroit Tigers (Connecticut), Houston Astros (Tri-City) and Oakland A’s (Vermont) farm teams to Dwyer Stadium in 2015.
