Vehicle found burning on reservation stolen from Akron resident

A vehicle found burning in a field off Bloomingdale Road, Basom, early yesterday morning, was stolen, according to Chief Deputy Jerome Brewster.

The 2002 Ford F150 pickup was stolen from a residence on Draper Road, Akron.

The fire was reported at 4:43 a.m. and the truck was completely engulfed by the time first responders arrived on scene.

The criminal investigation is being handled by the Erie County Sheriff's Office.

Car on fire in field off Bloomingdale Road

A car is reportedly on fire in a field in the area of 986 Bloomingdale Road, Basom.

A chief on scene reports the car is well off the road.

Alabama fire is responding.

UPDATE 5 a.m.: A deputy is in route.

UPDATE 6:11 a.m.: Alabama fire had cleared the scene. Now there's a report of a field fire in the same location. Alabama fire responding.

Truck traffic shut down on Route 77 for low wire

Eastbound semi-truck traffic is being shut down on Lewiston Road at Route 77 to Knowlesville Road, Alabama, because of a low-hanging wires.

There's also a utility pole leaning over the roadway on Lewiston Road. All eastbound traffic on Ledge Road will be closed at Route 77.

Alabama fire with mutual aid from Indian Falls responding.

National Grid is reporting a 30-minute ETA for the Ledge Road incident.UP

Law and Order: Man arrested on weapon charge after report of shots fired in Basom

Jonathan Chris Shirley, 33, of Council House Road, Basom, is charged with criminal possession of a weapon, 3rd, failure to comply with lawful order, unlicensed operation, aggravated unlicensed operation, 2nd, and no use of signal lamps. Shirley was stopped at 8:24 a.m. Sunday by Deputy Chad Cummings following a complaint of shots fired in the neighborhood on Council House Road, Basom. Shirley's vehicle was stopped and he was found to allegedly be a felon in possession of a weapon. He was jailed without bail. Deputies Christopher Parker, Brad Mazur and Cory Mower, along with State Police assisted in the response and investigation. 

Alexander D. Sweeney, 23, of Redfern Drive, Churchville, is charged with DWI, driving with a BAC of .08 or greater and failure to keep right. Sweeney was stopped at 1:20 a.m. Sunday on Lake Street, Village of Le Roy, by Le Roy PD.

Timothy L. Freeman, 46, of Pavilion, is charged with menacing, 3rd. Freeman allegedly threatened a woman during an argument at a residence in Covington. State Police responded. He was jailed on $2,500 bail. An order of protection was issued.

William S. Smith, 47, of Main Road, Pembroke, is charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. Smith was allegedly found in possession of marijuana during a traffic stop at 10:57 p.m. Saturday on Main Road, Pembroke, by Deputy Kevin McCarthy.

Kenneth Russell Hernandez, 49, of Adams Street, Rochester, was arrested on a warrant stemming from a petit larceny charge. Hernandez was arrested upon his release from the Monroe County Jail, arraigned in Bergen Town Court, and jailed on $1,000 bail.

Kristine Elizabeth Harmon, 37, of Lincoln Avenue, Batavia, is charged with DWI, driving with a BAC of .18 or greater, drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle, speeding and driving a vehicle without an inspection certificate. Harmon was stopped at 12:36 a.m. Friday on Pearl Street Road, Batavia, by Deputy Joseph Corona.

Allyn Jay George, 49, of Council House Road, Basom, is charged with menacing, 2nd. George allegedly threatened another person with a firearm during an argument, which was reported at 5:53 a.m., Friday. He was jailed on $500 bail.

Law and Order: 76-year-old woman accused of elbowing victim

Marguerite Ann Magee, 76, of Oak Orchard East, Albion, is charged with harassment, 2nd. Magee allegedly struck another person with her elbow, which caused a cut lip. The incident was reported at 6:44 p.m. Monday at a residence on Judge Road, Alabama.

Terrance William Stenzel, 39, of Murray Street, Rochester, is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, 7th, unlawful possession of marijuana, aggravated unlicensed operator, 2nd, and obstructed plate. Stenzel was stopped at 1:06 p.m. Monday on Route 77, Pembroke, by Deputy Patrick Reeves for an alleged traffic infraction. Stenzel was allegedly found in possession of crack cocaine and marijuana. He was jailed on $550 cash bail or $5,000 bond.

Law and Order: Stop for alleged broken window leads to charges for driver

Sarah Regina Orsini, 59, of Exchange Street, Rochester, is charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, possession of untaxed cigarettes, unlawful possession of marijuana and driving with a broken windshield. Orsini was stopped at 11:40 a.m. Sunday on Route 77, by Deputy Joseph Corona.

Michelle M. Michael, 42, of West Seneca, is charged with petit larceny. Michael is accused of switching a price tag from a shirt to a more expensive jacket at Stan's Harley-Davidson and then paying for the mispriced jacket and leaving the store. The alleged switch was caught on surveillance video.

Gary Aton Williams, 54, of Lang Street, Rochester, was arrested on a warrant out of Gates related to a petit larceny charge. Williams was identified as a warrant suspect during a traffic stop at 7:38 p.m. Sunday on Route 262, Byron, by Deputy Joseph Graff. Williams as a passenger in the vehicle that was stopped for an alleged traffic violation.

Nelson Henry Nowicki Jr., 40, of Broadway Road, Darien, is charged with forcible touching. Nowicki allegedly forcibly touched another person.

Nicholas Ryan Donahue, 21, of Caraway Lane, Spencerport, is charged with possession of unstamped cigarettes, unlawful possession of marijuana and no front plate. Donahue was stopped at 8:08 p.m. Saturday on Judge Road, Alabama, by Deputy Joseph Corona. Donahue was allegedly in possession of 1,400 untaxed cigarettes.

Joseph R. Volasquez, 18, of Byron, is charged with criminal mischief, 3rd. The alleged incident was reported at 11:57 p.m. Sunday in Byron. Volasquez was arrested by State Police. He was ordered held on bond. No further details released.

Crash with injuries at Lockport and Lewiston roads, Alabama

An accident with injuries is reported at the intersection of Lockport and Lewiston roads. Alabama fire and Mercy medics are responding. State Troopers are on scene. One car smashed into a tree.

UPDATE 11:10 p.m.: Troopers report there are no injuries. Alabama fire is told to stand down.

Nominations are currently being accepted for this year’s induction class of the Oakfield-Alabama Alumni Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame recognizes outstanding OACS alumni who have achieved distinction in their lives and chosen field after high school through significant contributions to their career, community or through personal achievements. If you know a person who meets the following criteria, please consider nominating him/her for this prestigious honor:

  1.  Nominees must be graduates of OACS or one of its predecessors, or have been active in school classes and activities during their senior year (Nominees who left school while in good standing to perform military service are also eligible.  Deceased alumni are not eligible for induction until the 5th anniversary of the year of their death.);
  2. Nominees must have graduated prior to 1998;
  3. Selection is based on achievement after leaving OACS which includes a worthy record in more than one, and exemplary achievement in at least one of the following:
  • Job-related achievements
  • Professional honors and awards, professional affiliations, publications
  • Civic or community involvement
  • Personal achievements/accomplishments
  • Positive impact on the communities in the Oakfield-Alabama school district

Register now for Oakfield-Alabama pre-kindergarten and kindergarten

Children who reside in the Oakfield-Alabama Central School District and who will be 4 years old by Dec. 1 this year are eligible to be registered for our Universal Pre-Kindergarten program for the 2015-2016 school year.  If you need a registration packet, please call the elementary school office at 585-948-5211, ext. 3211, to request one, or e-mail kfisher2@oahornets.org

Kindergarten registration is scheduled for Monday, March 23rd through Thursday, March 27th at the elementary school office between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2p.m. Information packets have been sent to families. If you did not receive a packet or are new to the district, please notify the elementary office at 948-5211, ext. 3211, and we will send one to you.

Please bring the following mandatory documents with you: a completed Student Information Form (from the packet received in the mail), your child’s birth certificate, two proofs of residency, a current immunization record and a current physical examination.

Only children who have reached their fifth birthday on or before Dec. 1, 2015,may be registered for the 2015-2016 school year.

Oakfield and Alabama hold public information meeting on proposed water district

The towns of Oakfield and Alabama are having a joint Public Information meeting on Wednesday, March 4 at 7 p.m. at the Alabama Fire Hall, 2230 Judge Road, Oakfield to discuss a proposed Water District on Townline and Macomber roads.

Roof said to be near collapse on Bloomingdale Road

The "possible eminent collapse of a roof" is reported at 493 Bloomingdale Road on the Reservation. At the rear of the building, the ceilings are quite bowed and water is leaking in, says the caller. Alabama fire is dispatched to investigate.

Chimney fire reported on Ledge Road

A chimney fire is reported at 1084 Ledge Road, just east of the Reservation boundary line. Alabama fire is responding.

Passersby attempting to help people get out of vehicle after rollover accident in Alabama

A one-vehicle rollover accident is reported in the area of 1655 Lewiston Road, near Knowlesville Road, Alabama.

Passersby are attempting to help the people out of the vehicle now.

Alabama fire and Mercy EMS dispatched.

UPDATE 2:07 p.m.: There were two occupants. One is out and they're working to get the other one out.

Possibility of roof collapse reported on Macomber Road, Alabama

A "possible impending roof collapse" is reported at 7020 Macomber Road, just south of Judge Road. Alabama fire is responding. The caller reports the roof is leaking and creaking.

UPDATE 12:04 p.m.: A code enforcement officer will be notified and asked to go to the location.

UPDATE 12:08 p.m.: A responder on scene, checking from inside the house, says there is a minor leak in the ceiling.

Allens food processing in Oakfield evacuated due to strong odor of natural gas

The Allens food processing plant in Oakfield is being evacuated because of a strong odor of natural gas coming from behind the building. The plant manager tells dispatch there's a main gas pipeline behind the facility, located at 40 Stevens St. in the village. Oakfield fire is responding, along with mutual aid from Alabama. Winds are north/northeast at 15 mph.

UPDATE 2:15 p.m.: National Fuel has been notified. No ETA given.

UPDATE 2:33 p.m.: The fuel line has been shut off.

Car hits tree on Alleghany Road, Alabama

A vehicle has reportedly hit a tree on Alleghany Road north of Roberts Road, Alabama.

There is airbag deployment.
