This is a tough one, the father in me wants to say: Chop of their genitals and feed the parts to hungry pigs while they watch. Where they live after that is their own business.

Chopping off lower body parts might make you feel better but it does not solve the problem. Sex offenders are bullies of a different kind. They use these acts as a power mechanism. There's a problem in their brain somewhere, not in their other head so remove the correct head and you DO solve the problem.

If they've served their time, it should be over and done with.

How about a daily dose of Salt Peter. That awta do the trick. Once a prevert, always a prevert.

"If they've served their time, it should be over and done with."

This is fine if you believe that the act of sexually abusing children is not related to mental disease.
There are too many documented cases of repeat offenders.
Is the answer for a repeat offender, do your time (again) and then go live wherever you like.
If you had children would you want a convicted child molester living near you (since you plan to home school) or near a park where your children play?
Doug is right, "Sex offenders are bullies of a different kind. They use these acts as a power mechanism. There's a problem in their brain somewhere...". This is bullying taken to an unfathomable level.
You may condone bullying (for example, yelling at a parent and wishing harm to a child who is acting up in public)but
how would you feel if your child was the next victim of the molester you casually dismissed as someone who did the time, and now it is done and over. Can you really be sure?

Anyone know what the recidivism rate is for sex offenders? I think there could be a strong case made for supervised living.

I believe the recidivism rate for sex offenders is high, and once caught/convicted they usually realize that they need to dispose of the evidence in order not to get caught again. Watch the news on how many kids vanish in mid air. The idea of supervised living is great, however most tax payers flip out over any new taxes and the funding for this idea would be a problem. On this very site people have flipped out about supportive living for the elderly, mentally ill and chemical dependent people. Good Luck!

The crime of pedophilia cannot be cured. Ane yes the rate of recitivism is very high. So to answer your survey question about where they should live....how about the empty houses at LOVE CANAL??
