Farm worker accused of stealing cattle and selling for more than $250,000

mug-Baldwin-Charles.jpgA farm worker in Darien has been accused of stealing and selling 150 head of cattle from Herdsman at Reyncrest Farms and selling them for more than $250,000.

Charles G. Baldwin, 37, 4 John St., Akron, is charged with grand larceny and now held at Genesee County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Baldwin allegedly stole the cattle between July 2007 and May 2009 from the farm located at 9666 Route 77, Darien. The farm is owned by the Reynolds family, who reportedly employed Baldwin.

The alleged crime was investigated by William T. Ferrando, an investigator with the Sheriff's Office.

I believe that stealing 150 head of cattle is not only a felony but a crime punishable by hanging ! Someone must check the laws !

I wondered the same thing. Granted, it was over a period of time but still.... That's a lot of cows. I wonder how they finally caught him.

I think he disassembled them and snuck them out in parts in his lunchbox

If it's a large operation with multiple farms and he was in the right position of responsibility........

Last I knew, Donnans were milking several thousand head, which means even more heifers and calves.

Thanks Andrew. That does explain a lot. I guess with that many cows, you wouldn't miss a cow or two a week. And Jeff, that brings to mind a Johnny Cash song. One Piece at a Time. Ever hear it?
