Overturned tractor-trailer caused delays on Thruway in Le Roy this morning

A tractor-trailer overturned on the Thruway at about 10 a.m. and though there were no injuries, the accident created traffic delays through Le Roy.

Due to a fuel spill, both westbound lanes were blocked for a time.

State Police said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Accident reported, car into a tree, on Creamery Road, Bergen

A car has reportedly hit a tree, and injuries are reported, on Creamery Road at North Lake Road, Bergen.

Bergen fire and ambulance dispatched.

UPDATE 6:58 a.m.: One occupant with a complaint of chest pain.

UPDATE 7:25 a.m.: One person transported to Strong.

A reader provided this photo of a garbage truck the somehow got stuck in a ditch off of Route 5 near Route 77 about 2:30 p.m. A tow operator managed to pull the truck out of the ditch.

Woman seriously injured in crash in Byron this morning

A 38-year-old Brockport woman was seriously injured this morning when her 2012 Toyota Camry left the roadway on Route 262, Byron, and struck a tree.

The accident was reported at 7:11 a.m. at the intersection of Route 262 and Transit Road.

Dawn Dunlap was driving eastbound on Route 262 when her car drifted off the roadway onto the south shoulder, struck a road sign and large wooden sign and then a tree.

She was conscious and alert when emergency personnel arrived on scene. 

It's believed the accident occurred a considerable amount of time before it was reported by passersby.

Byron and South Byron fire departments responded and Elba fire responded with extrication equipment. 

Mercy EMS assisted at the scene.

Dunlap was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by Mercy Flight. She is listed in guarded condition.

The accident is under investigation by Deputy Erik Andre, Deputy Kevin McCarthy, Sgt. Ron Meides, and Investigator James Diehl.

Charges are pending.

Accident with injuries reported on Gulf Road, Le Roy

A motor-vehicle accident with injuries is reported at 8667 Gulf Road, Le Roy.

Le Roy fire with mutual aid from Pavilion dispatched.

Le Roy ambulance dispatched.

The accident may be in Monroe County.

UPDATE 2:16 p.m.: Le Roy chief on scene. It's in Mumford's district, Monroe County. Apparently minor injuries. Responding units "can back it down."

Car into tree reported at Route 262 and Transit Road, Byron

A car has reportedly hit a tree at Route 262 and Transit Road, Byron. 

Unknown injuries. 

Byron and South Byron fire departments dispatched. 

UPDATE 7:22 a.m.: Female driver said to be entrapped. Complaint of arm and leg pain. 

UPDATE 7:25 a.m.; Elba requested to the scene to assist with extrication.

UPDATE 7:31 a.m.; Mercy Flight on ground standby. Elba fire police requested. 

UPDATE 7:34 a.m.: Mercy Flight requested to the scene. 

UPDATE 8:06 a.m.:Mercy Flight in route to Strong. 

Driver arrested after pickup struck by train in Bergen

A 46-year-old Bergen man has been charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs after the truck he was driving yesterday was struck by a train near Buffalo Street Road.

Donald R. Read reportedly fell asleep while behind the wheel of his 2000 Ford F250.

The truck traveled off the north shoulder of the road, down an embankment, and across the south side and north side tracks of the CSX line.

It came to rest near the north-side tracks.

An eastbound train on the north side tracks struck the rear of the pickup truck. The accident was reported at 6:50 p.m.

Both Read and his passenger, Frank L. Morrison, had gotten out of the truck before it was struck.

Even so, Morrison suffered minor injuries and was transported by the Bergen Volunteer Ambulance to Unity Hospital in Rochester.

Read was also charged with moving from lane unsafely, unlawful possession of marijuana, and trespassing. Other charges are pending.

The accident was investigated by Sgt. Jason Saile, Deputy Rachel Diehl, Deputy James Stack, and Deputy Eric Meyer. Assisting at the scene were members of the Bergen Volunteer Fire Department and personnel from CSX.

Two-car accident, unknown injuries, reported on Telephone Road, Pavilion

A two-car accident is reported at Asbury Road and Telephone Road, Pavilion.

A car is on its side and smoking.

Unknown injuries.

A third-party caller, not involved, states he hasn't seen anyone exit either vehicle.

Pavilion fire and Mercy EMS dispatched.

UPDATE 12:09 p.m.: Responders are checking the area trying to locate the accident. Dispatchers received only one call.

UPDATE 12:10 p.m.: Updated location, Route 20 near Linwood. A first responder on scene reports one occupant trapped in a vehicle.

UPDATE 12:11 p.m.: Same responder, "Apparently minor injuries."

UPDATE 12:13 p.m.: Only one vehicle involved. Only one patient.

UPDATE 12:18 p.m.: The vehicle is about 30 feet off the road on its passenger side and it was pulling a wooden trailer. It's in water. "Tell him to wear his waders. He's going to get wet," a responder says.

 

Man claims rib pain after 'train vs. pickup' accident in Bergen

A man inside a feed store in Bergen is complaining of rib pain after what he says was a train vs. pickup truck accident. It occurred on Buffalo Street near Route 19. Bergen fire and medics are responding.

UPDATE 7 p.m.: "I have located the vehicle; checking on it now," says a first responder.

UPDATE 7:03 p.m.: "The truck is not on the railroad track; it's just east," says a first repsonder.

Accident with injuries reported on the Thruway in Le Roy

A motor-vehicle accident with injuries is reported on the Thruway in the westbound lane in the area of mile marker 382.5.

Le Roy fire and Le Roy ambulance initially dispatched.

A Le Roy chief on scene reports three patients, all still in the vehicle.

Bergen dispatched mutual aid with extrication equipment.

UPDATE 11:14 a.m.: Mercy Flight requested to the scene.

UPDATE 11:16 a.m.: Mercy Flight out of Batavia is unavailable. Mercy Flight out of Buffalo is 20 minutes away. A chief says, "too far away." Mercy Flight is canceled.

UPDATE 11:18 a.m.: Patients have been extricated.

UPDATE 11:29 a.m.: A third ambulance requested to the scene, emergency mode.

No serious injuries after bicyclist struck on Main Street, Batavia

A bicyclist suffered minor injuries about 1:30 p.m. today after being struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of Main and Bank streets, Batavia.

The rider had a complaint of ankle pain and was transported to UMMC for evaluation.

Batavia woman, 19, killed in accident on Pearl Street Road

A 19-year-old Batavia woman died this morning after her 2004 Dodge Neon struck a tractor-trailer on Pearl Street Road at Wilkinson Road, Batavia.

Tori Nigro was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Karen Lang.

Investigators believe Nigro, who was northbound on Wilkinson Road, failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection.

Her car struck the truck's passenger-side wheels. Her vehicle came to rest in the eastbound lane of Route 33 and the truck came to a controlled stop just east of the intersection.

No charges have been filed.

An investigation by the Crash Management Team is ongoing. Assisting in the investigation are Deputies Kevin McCarthy, Andrew Hale, Eric Andre, and Investigator Chris Parker. 

Assisting at the scene were the East Pembroke Fire Department, Corfu fire, Town of Batavia fire, and the Fire Coordinator's Office.

Crash with injuries and entrapment reported on Route 33 at Wilkinson Road, West Batavia

A motor-vehicle accident with injuries and entrapment is reported at 2745 Pearl Street Road (Route 33) at the intersection of Wilkinson Road in West Batavia. East Pembroke Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding. The availability of Mercy Flight is being checked.

"We believe the vehicle may be underneath a tractor-trailer," says a dispatcher.  "...Multiple vehicles." A BLS ambulance out of Darien is called for evaluations of patients. Fire police from Corfu are asked to shut down traffic on Route 33 at Read Road; Town of Batavia Fire Department is asked to close Route 33 at Hopkins Road.

UPDATE 1:26 p.m.: This is a fatal accident. More T/K.

Car, deer accident, with hunter firing shots, reported on Galloway Road

An accident with injuries and possible shots fired reported on Galloway Road, between Downey Road and Kelsey Road, Batavia.

The report is that a driver swerved to miss a deer and a hunter fired at the deer.

Town of Batavia fire dispatched but to stage at Fire Hall.

Mercy EMS dispatched.

Deputies are responding.

UPDATE 11:05 a.m.: Per a deputy on scene, Town of Batavia fire assignment is back in service.

UPDATE 4:06 p.m.: Per the Chief Deputy Gordon Dibble, reports of hunters firing rounds in the area were not substantiated. Initial investigation indicates a driver was eastbound on Galloway Road when two deer ran in front of the vehicle from the north, causing the driver to swerve. The driver struck a fire hydrant, shearing it off, in the area of 3321 Galloway. There were no injuries.

Perry man charged with DWI after early morning rollover accident in Bethany

Press release from the GC Sheriff's Office:

A 30-year-old Perry man is charged with DWI after a rollover accident early this morning on Route 63 near Fargo Road in Bethany.

Kenneth Wayne Wilson Jr., of Burke Hill Road, is also charged with: speed not reasonable and prudent; uninspected motor vehicle; moving from lane unsafely; and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

The actual location of the single-vehicle accident was determined to be 5604 Ellicott Street Road (Route 63) and it occurred at 1:24 a.m.

Deputies responded and after an investigation they arrested Wilson.

It is alleged that he was driving while intoxicated. He was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital via ambulance. He was released on appearance tickets returnable to Bethany Town Court at 7 p.m. on Jan. 9.

The case was investigated by Deputy Travis DeMuth, assisted by Deputy Jeremy McClellan.

One-vehicle rollover reported at Route 63 near Fargo Road in Bethany

A one-vehicle rollover accident is reported at Route 63 near Fargo Road, Bethany. A first responder on scene says the vehicle is off the roadway. Bethany and Stafford fire departments are responding, along with Mercy medics. Traffic control will be needed "to slow people down since we have the curve."

UPDATE 1:43 a.m.: Traffic will be slowed down at Little Canada Road and Route 63 per command.

UPDATE 1:44 a.m.: Traffic will also be slowed at Paul Road and Route 63 per command.

UPDATE 1:47 a.m.: Command confirms the roadway will remain open for now.

UPDATE 2:03 a.m.: When Dan's Towing arrives, road will be briefly shut down to facilitate the tow.

UPDATE 2:14 a.m.:  One person is being transported to Strong Memorial Hospital.
