The Albion Police Department is tracking leads regarding a missing 21-year-old man with ties to Batavia. They believe he may be in the town of Dennis in Massachusetts.

Cooper Karas, a resident of Greece, hasn't been seen by family members since Monday.

Officer Christopher J. Glogowski, Albion PD, said on Thursday that Karas's silver VW Jetta was observed by a plate reader near Clifton Springs, heading eastbound on I-90.

He previously held a job in Dennis.

"A previous employer stated that he was seen at his business in the Town of Dennis, Mass., around 9:30 a.m. today,"  Glogowski said. "Local law enforcement in the town of Dennis has been notified and is attempting to locate Cooper as well."

At 7:30 p.m. on Monday, he drove his 2013 silver VW Jetta to his grandmother's house in Albion and left his dog in the fenced yard (the dog is fine) and left.

He is 5 feet 8 inches tall and 180 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

He attended Batavia High School for a time a few years ago and has family in Batavia.

"As of right now, there have not been any new leads, but we are staying in contact with law enforcement in that general area," Glogowski said. 

A 21-year-old man from Greece who is missing and was last seen two days ago in Albion has ties to Batavia, and family members are asking local residents for any help in locating him.

The Missing Vulnerable Adult Alert for Serenity Joy Quiett out of Niagara County has been canceled, and Serenity was located safely this evening, March 27, 2024. 

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the public for their assistance in successfully locating Serenity. The search was assisted by the Batavia Police Department, Oakfield Fire Department, Elba Fire Department, Genesee County Emergency Management Office, Genesee County Emergency Dispatch Center, and the New York State Police.   

Emergency personnel have been working in Oakfield searching for a missing 18-year-old woman from Niagara County whose phone was tracked to the area.

She is considered a vulnerable adult who may need medical attention.

Chief Deputy Brian Frieday said the Sheriff's Office was alerted to the trace of her phone in the Oakfield area yesterday and began a search for her. Additional search teams from Oakfield Fire and Elba Fire were brought in to assist this morning.

Niagara County is also participating in the search. 

Frieday said on Wednesday afternoon that the woman's phone had recently been traced again to the area.

"We're trying to check whatever leads we can," Frieday said.

The woman was identified in a press release as Serenity Joy Quiett and described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, 120 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, and white.

She is described as autistic. 

She was last seen in Barker on foot wearing all-black clothing and black earrings.

The Office of Emergency Management is assisting in the search, and the command post is located at the Oakfield Fire Hall.

UPDATE 5:58 p.m.: Batavia PD says Stephenie Underwood has been located.

The Batavia Police Department is seeking public assistance in locating 42-year-old Stephenie Underwood. Underwood was last seen on Sept. 27 at approximately noon in Batavia. She was last seen wearing tan sweatpants and a black long-sleeved shirt. Jesus Reyes was last seen on June 28 at approximately 3:00 a.m. in Batavia. He was last wearing a white Batavia Track t-shirt and matching shorts. 

Jesus is about 5'4" and 175 lbs with black hair and black eyes. 

It's possible that he is in the Miami, Fla. area.

The Batavia Police Department is seeking public assistance in locating a missing 13-year-old girl.

Jaylynn Alvord was last seen at about 7 p.m. on Nov. 17.

She was last seen wearing black jeans and a tie-dye sweatshirt. She has a nose ring.

Jaylynn is slightly over 5' tall and weighs 145 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.

UPDATE:  Statement from Batavia PD: "Tyler Gulisano has been located. The Batavia Police Department would like to thank everyone who provided assistance."

Tyler Gulisano of Batavia is missing and was last seen on July 6 in the early morning hours after leaving the Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo.

A family member received a call from him at about 12:45 p.m. while he was at Seneca Texas Red Hots in Buffalo.

He may have been in an altered mental state, so there is concern for his well-being.

UPDATE: The 12-year-old girl has been located.

The Batavia Police Department is looking for assistance in locating a missing 12-year-old girl who ran away from home overnight. (name redacted) is a BCSD Student and was last seen in the area of Liberty St. XXXX did not have a cellphone with her. If anyone has any information please contact the Batavia Police Department at (585) 345-6350.

Batavia PD requested a search of the creek by City Fire's water rescue team and other first responders because Hyde's jacket was found near the creek yesterday.

The 29-year-old's body was recovered at 12:35 p.m. and positively identified as the missing man.

"At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Lewis Hyde," stated Batavia PD in a press release.

The release says there has been an extensive search for Hyde since he was reported missing and that the creek became a focal point of the search yesterday.  The first phase of the search included air reconnaissance. 

The water rescue team meticulously searched the creek between South Lyon Street and River Street starting early this morning.

There is an ongoing investigation by Batavia PD. There will also be an autopsy but investigators do not suspect foul play.

The Batavia Police Department greatly appreciates the assistance of the City of Batavia Fire Department, Genesee County Emergency Management, New York State Police, ALERT – Advanced Local Emergency Response Team, Mercy EMS, Alden Fire, Niagara Frontier Search and Rescue, Massasauga Search and Rescue Team, Genesee County Emergency Dispatch Center and the Genesee County Coroner’s Office in this matter.

There is no reason to believe the man, Lewis Hyde, went into the creek, said Investigator Eric Hill, Batavia PD, but because he was last seen in the area and his jacket was found yesterday on the bank of the creek, officials decided it best to undertake a search.

"We're doing our due diligence and hoping we don't find him," said Hill.

By 12:30, crews had searched the north half of the creek and were halfway done with the south side, and Hyde had not been located.

If his body is not found in the creek, it provides hope he's still alive, Hill noted.

Hyde is described as being 5’10”, 180 pounds.

He was last seen at 2 a.m. March 11, wearing a tan coat, jeans, and black boots.

The Batavia Police Department is seeking assistance from the public in locating Lewis Hyde. Hyde is described as being 5’10”, 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a tan coat, jeans and black boots. Hyde was last seen on March 11th, 2022 at approximately 2:00 a.m. on West Main Street in Batavia. The Batavia Police department is looking for 64-year-old Michael C. Jackson who left the Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing facility located at 257 State St. He was last seen at approximately 5:30 pm, wearing a red sweatsuit. Muntz was last seen in the Town of Byron on Aug. 24 in the early morning.

Muntz is not in any trouble. The Sheriff's Office is trying to locate her to make sure she is OK.

From BPD -- Louis Morris has been located alive and unharmed. The Batavia Police Department would like to thank the public for the tips they sent in.

The Batavia Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Lewis A. Morris who was reported missing from his home in the City of Batavia on June 25th.

Mr. Morris was last seen at his residence on June 25th at approximately 12:30 a.m. and reportedly may have left sometime before 3 a.m. Mr. Morris is believed to be with his vehicle, which is a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, 4-door sedan, black, with New York registration - JAT5955.

Morris is described as an African American male, age 66, there is currently no clothing description available. His photo accompanies this news release. Anyone who sees Morris, or his vehicle, should call their local law enforcement agency.

The missing adult reported by the Batavia Police Department, Jessica Deridder, was located in Greece. Jessica was located unharmed and is OK. The missing person alert has been rescinded.

The City of Batavia Police Department is asking for assistance in locating the individual pictured in the attached photo. Tammy L. Taylor, age 50, of the City of Batavia, is listed as a Missing Vulnerable Adult.

Tammy was last seen on Aug. 15 around 1:30 p.m. in the City of Batavia, she is believed to have been dropped off in the area of 625 Elmwood Ave. in the City of Rochester by a transportation service for a pre-arranged appointment. At this time her whereabouts are unknown, and we are asking for the public’s assistance.

Tammy is listed as biracial, approximately 5’03”, 120 lbs., with brown hair and brown eyes last seen wearing a black and white shirt, jeans and flip-flops. Tammy suffers from bipolar disorder, PTSD and has a diminished mental capacity. She is missing from a residential facility in the City of Batavia and may be in need of medical attention.

The missing vulnerable adult from Leicester, Starrlita Smith, has been located, according to the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.

There was no information released about the condition of the 21-year-old woman nor the circumstances of her disappearance.

She's been missing since Monday night when she wandered away from her parent's home.

Authorities said Starrlita has the mental capacity of a 6- to 12-year-old child.

She is described as white, five-foot-five, 120 pounds with short brown hair and brown eyes.

The search area now includes the counties of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Cayuga, Chautauqua, Chemung, Cortland, Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Ontario, Orleans, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates.
