A rollover accident with minor injury has been reported at 8825 Route 98, near L&L Transmission.

The vehicle is off the road in the ditch.

Mercy medics and Town of Batavia Fire Department are on scene.

UPDATE 10:06 p.m.: Subject is not injured at all and the car is well off the road. Town of Batavia back in service.

A tractor-trailer has reportedly left the roadway and traveled into the woods on the Thruway in Le Roy.

There are no injuries reported in the accident.

The location is on the eastbound side of the Thruway, just west of the Le Roy exit.

Le Roy fire and Le Roy ambulance dispatched.

UPDATE 3:22 p.m.: Chief on location. It's not a tractor-trailer. It's a wrecker that's off into the woods.

A driver making a left-hand turn out of Rite-Aid said he never saw a pedestrian in the middle of West Main Street Road at 12:55 p.m., Saturday, sending the victim to Strong Memorial Hospital aboard Mercy Flight.

The victim, Arthur L. Osborne, 46, of West Main Street Road, Batavia, has been discharged from Strong.

Craig D. Rich, 56, North Lyon Street, Batavia, was cited for allegedly driving without a license.

Rich was exiting the Rite-Aid parking lot with the intention of heading east when he struck Osborne, who was in the center of Route 5 at the time.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Joseph Corona.

A two-car accident has been reported at 986 Bloomingdale Road, Tonawanda Indian Reservation, in front of The Rez smoke shop.

One person has a facial injury.

Alabama Fire Department, Mercy EMS responding.

The roadway is blocked.

UPDATE 1:13 p.m.: All the patients are in the restaurant. There are at least two, maybe three.

UPDATE 1:44 p.m. (Billie): One person suffered a leg injury, possibly a fracture. One patient was transported to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital. Not sure of the destination, if any, of others. Alabama went back into service at 1:37 p.m.

A pedestrian has serious injuries after being struck by a car in front of the Castilone Chrysler dealership at the corner of West Main and North Lyon streets. City police, fire and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 8:58 p.m.: Mercy Flight is on ground standby. Medics intend to take the victim via ambulance to the airport hangar for transport to a hospital. Traffic control is needed and westbound lanes are getting a little backed up.

UPDATE 9:11 p.m.: The victim is well en route to the Mercy Flight hangar. City Engine 11 is back in quarters.

UPDATE 10 p.m. (by Howard): According to Sgt. John Peck, the pedestrian was walking in the westbound lane of West Main Street. Another person out walking a dog tried to tell the pedestrian to get out of the street and onto the sidewalk, but the pedestrian, who appeared to be intoxicated, would not do it and even became belligerent. The driver of the red pickup never even saw the pedestrian until just before hitting him. No charges are anticipated. The pedestrian suffered a possible serious head injury and was unconscious when police first arrived on scene. The patient was conscious by the time he was transported by Mercy EMS. Peck said there appeared to be no issue with the snow that prevented the man from walking on the sidewalk.

UPDATE 10:58 p.m.: The pedestrian has been identified as Kevin G. Viehdeffer, 52, of Batavia. The driver has been identified as Ryan Gugel, 25, of Batavia. There are no charges pending against Gugel.

A car struck a pedestrian in front of McDonald's restaurant on West Main Street in Batavia. The person is down in the roadway, but conscious. Town of Batavia Fire Department, Mercy medics and law enforcement are responding.

UPDATE 1:19 p.m.: The pedestrian was taken to UMMC. The town fire assignment is in service.

UPDATE 1:24 p.m.: The victim is a 45-year-old man who was taken to the Mercy Flight hangar off West Saile Drive and will be flown to a hospital. He is said to have injuries to his right hip and wrist and his ribs. He is having some difficulty breathing but never lost consciousness.

UPDATE 1:33 p.m.: Mercy Flight is airborne and headed to Strong Memorial Hospital. Mercy Medic 1 is back in service.

A car has crashed into a house at 26 S. Main St. in the City of Batavia. The driver has fled, according to a witness on scene. Police officers and the fire department are on scene. There is a natural gas leak at the damaged house and National Fuel is being notified. The location is in the area of the roundabout.

UPDATE 5:27 a.m.: The natural gas meter has been destroyed and National Fuel is notified to expedite a crew to the location.

UPDATE 5:33 a.m.: A bottle of an alcoholic beverage was found outside of a house on the South Pearl Street Extension. Police now have the vehicle's driver and are taking the person to police headquarters for "field testing," (sobriety check) according to an officer at the scene.

UPDATE 5:41 a.m.: National Grid has a 15-minute ETA.

UPDATE 5:44 a.m.: The Department of Public Works is being notified that a light post was knocked down and there are exposed electrical wires at its base.

UPDATE 5:55 a.m.: According to eyewitness(es), the car came into the roundabout at a high rate of speed, maybe 60 miles an hour. It struck a snow bank and a light pole, sending it airborne in a southeasterly direction whereupon it crashed into the house at 26 S. Main St. The car was dragging the light pole behind it -- one of the newer black ones. A neighbor said the noise was so loud "it sounded like Santa landed on the roof."

UPDATE 5:58 a.m.: National Fuel reps are on scene. A city code enforcement officer is called in.

UPDATE 6:11 a.m.: National Grid is called in. No ETA given. The bottle of alcohol which was recovered by the house on the South Pearl Street Extension was allegedly thrown from the vehicle by the driver, according to a witness. The driver is now in custody and is being charged with driving while intoxicated and faces numerous other charges, a police officer said.

UPDATE 6:21 a.m.: No injuries are reported. The occupants of the damaged house and their neighbors have been evacuated.

UPDATE 7:33 a.m.: City fire back in service.

UPDATE 8 a.m. (by Howard): The driver is identified as 22-year-old Cory D. Goff, of 457 Mt. Read Blvd., Rochester. Goff was arraigned in Batavia City Court this morning but the full list of charges against him has not yet been released. 

According to Officer Darryle Streeter, Goff was allegedly driving his vehicle eastbound on Route 33/Pearl Street when he entered the roundabout at a high rate of speed. His vehicle struck a curb, went airborne, hit a lamp post, several signs and plowed through a snowbank. It then slid on its side across South Main Street, uprighted itself, hit another snow bank, sending it airborne again before it struck the house at 26 South Main.

Witnesses allegedly saw Goff exit the vehicle and run across the street and dispose of a bottle. The bottle was recovered by police. Goff then reportedly went back to the house and notified the residents that there was a gas leak. Goff was still on scene when police arrived. He was taken to Batavia PD headquarters for questioning and a field sobriety test and subsequently arrested on a DWI charge and other charges.

Rob Ogeen, a neighbor and one of the witnesses, said the crash was so loud it sounded like "Santa landing on the roof."

Nobody was injured in the accident. An upstairs resident of 26 S. Main slept through the entire event and only came out after being awoken by the landlord.

The location is next door to a vacant lot that contained a house until March 2010, when another driver came through the roundabout at a high rate of speed, lost control and knocked the house off its foundation. In this accident, the residence does not appear to be as seriously damaged.

UPDATE: Goff was charged with DWI, refusal to take a breath test, speed not reasonable and prudent, unreasonable speed/special hazards (roundabout), reckless driving, and two counts of failure to keep right.

A tractor-trailer has reportedly been involved in an accident on Route 77 at Cohocton Road, Corfu, and the driver struck his chest on the steering wheel.

The truck is blocking Route 77.

A car vs. tractor-trailer accident, believed to be without injuries, is reported on Route 63 near Little Canada Road. The roadway is completely blocked. Bethany Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 8:12 p.m.: A second semi-trailer is now involved. The first one "believe it or not," says the Bethany chief, was "pushed into the ditch by the wind and will need a heavy-duty tow." Stafford Fire Police are rerouting traffic. It is confirmed that there are no injuries.

UPDATE 8:32 p.m.: Bethany requests that southbound truck traffic be held at Cedar Street.

Traffic is being diverted off Clinton Street to East Avenue while Batavia PD deals with a two-car, non-injury motor-vehicle accident.

Batavia Fire Department is requested to the scene.

UPDATE 4:23 p.m.: Initial indication is a town snow plow was stopped southbound on Clinton and was allowing a Haul-4-Less truck to make a left-hand turn from East Avenue onto Clinton. A semi coming up behind the plow truck may not have seen the plow truck stopped and tried going around the plow truck, hitting the Haul-4-Less truck. No injuries. Heavy wreckers had to be called in for the disabled trucks and traffic was blocked in both directions.

Related, local law enforcement officers are currently working a handful of property damage accidents in various parts of the county. All seem to be weather related.

A motor-vehicle accident is reported on Ellicott Street Road at Little Canada Road, Bethany, with minor injuries.

A person reports not feeling well and having back pain.

Bethany Fire and Mercy EMS dispatched.

UPDATE 8:48 a.m.: A dispatcher informs a deputy responding that "the situation is deteriorating quickly." A Bethany chief requests mutual aid from Stafford and the deputy requests a trooper to respond to assist with traffic control.

UPDATE 10:02 a.m.: Roadway is reopened. It sounds like there were two accidents at this location.

A one-vehicle rollover with entrapment is reported at 6833 W. Main St. Road in Le Roy. There is also a telephone pole down. The driver is alert and talking but is upside down and held in place by her seat belt. The car is on its roof. Le Roy fire and ambulance are responding. The location is west of the two car dealerships on that stretch of roadway.

UPDATE 6:50 a.m.: Fire police are shutting down the road in the vicinity of the accident scene.

UPDATE 6:55 a.m.: Route 5 at Bater Road is shut down. The address of the accident is determined to be 6919 W. Main St. Road.

UPDATE 7:04 a.m.: Fire police are told to open up the road.

UPDATE 7:05 : The Le Roy assignment is back in service. A tow truck is expected there in about 10 minutes. Law enforcement is on scene.

UPDATE 7:16 a.m.: The driver is being transported to UMMC.

UPDATE 7:27 a.m.: The patient is a 36-year-old woman complaining of neck pain.

There are reportedly very minor injuries following a rollover accident on Route 98, just south of Edgerton Road, Elba.

Elba Fire Department and Mercy EMS responded.

Route 98 was shut down for a time, but is being reopened now.

The vehicle is about 15 feet off the roadway and will require a tow.

A motor-vehicle accident is reported, with minor injuries, at 2333 Town Line Road, near Maple Road, and Alabama Fire Department is responding along with medics.

UPDATE 12:59 p.m.: Four vehicles are involved. One of them is blocking traffic. One tow truck is already on scene.

UPDATE 1:09 p.m.: The Town of Alabama Highway Department is called to the area to clear the roads, which "are pretty bad," according to a responder. One ambulance is said to be sufficient.

A snowmobiler went off a trail and into some sort of body of water way off the road in the woods, west of 9140 Wilkinson Road. The snowmobile is submerged and the rider is apparently stuck in the icy water, although he is said to be uninjured. The Water Rescue Team from East Pembroke is responding along with volunteer firefighters.

UPDATE 2:44 p.m.: The location is a crick approximately parallel to Lear Road, about a 100 yards south of the railroads tracks, in a clump of woods north of an open field known as Harmon Field. The rider's mobile phone is about to go dead. A Town of Batavia plow, which was in the vicinity, is heading back to the rescuers' location to plow a more direct path to the victim. Snowmobilers tell dispatch the place "is a total washout. There's a lot of water in the area." An ambulance is called.

UPDATE 2:48 p.m.: A law enforcement officer at the scene tells dispatch the snow is too deep to plow there, so the Town of Batavia's plow is told to cancel its response. A Gator from Alexander is called instead. The rider is out of the water, but surrounded by it.

UPDATE 2:52 p.m.: The Gator response from Alexander is cancelled. Responders may be able to access the spot and walk the person out, although there's no clear way to do that just yet.

UPDATE 3:08 p.m.: Rescuers According to a reader, K-9 Deputy Brian Thompson and the victim are walking out of the accident site, and are nearing a blue house with a white barn and green tractor. ATVs were not able to get back there.

There's a dark green, early 2000 Hyundai missing a front left fender out there somewhere and the Sheriff's Office would like to locate it.

The vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run accident this morning at the Sugar Creek at Route 19 and Route 33, Bergen.

A survelliance camera at Sugar Creek has helped deputies get a description of the vehicle and the driver.

The driver is described as a male, about 5' 10" to 6" tall, 160 to 185 pounds, in his early to mid 20s. He wore his hair "high and tight," according to Deputy Joseph Corona.

The Hyundai may have been left overnight at the Sugar Creek and witnesses think they saw the driver warming up the car prior to the accident.

The driver left the parking lot northbound and was attempting to turn left, westbound, when it struck another sedan that was eastbound on Route 33. The Hyundai's fender became lodged in the other car's rear passanger-side door. The car then proceeded northbound on Route 19.

Deputy Corona asks anybody with information to contact him through the Sheriff's Office at 585-343-5000.

A Batavia man died today after he lost control of his Ford Ranger on a snow-and-ice covered Route 20 in Alexander and hit a westbound semi-truck.

The 48-year-old State Street resident was not wearing a seat belt, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Frank R. Demarco was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Donald Coleman.

Demarco's passenger, Brandon J. Eck, 32, of Graystone Lane, Rochester, suffered a serious leg injury in the accident. Eck was belted in his seat prior to the accident.

The driver of the 2010 Freightliner, 54-year-old Douglas E. McPherron, of County Route 9, Clayton, was not injured, though he was transported to UMMC by the Alexander ambulance as a precaution.

Unsafe speed for the road conditions is considered the preliminary contributing factor to the accident, according to investigators.

Demarco's Ranger was westbound when it crossed the center line and hit the truck head on. McPherron tried to break but couldn't slow quickly enough to avoid the accident, an investigator said.

The Ranger exited the road on the north shoulder.

The accident was reported at 1:34 p.m. at a location on Route 20 about half way between Browns Mill Road and West Bethany Road.

Alcohol is not considered a factor in the accident.

Assisting at the scene were the Alexander Volunteer Fire Department, State Police and Mercy EMS. The Bethany Volunteer Fire Department and Pavilion Volunteer Fire Department assisted with traffic control.

Route 20 was closed to all westbound traffic for about three hours. Westbound truck traffic was diverted onto Route 63 at Texaco Town.

The accident investigation is being conducted by Deputy Christopher Parker, Deputy Joseph Corona, Sgt. James Meier, Deputy John Duyssen, Investigator William Ferrando and Sgt. Greg Walker.

A car went off the roadway and into a ditch on Tower Hill Road near Byron Road. Byron and South Byron fire companies are responding along with an ambulance. The car is on its side. The driver is out of the vehicle with "minor injuries, however completely soaked," and possible having symptoms of hypothermia.

UPDATE 3:41 p.m.: Fire crews are told to respond non-emergency.

A pickup truck and tractor-trailer crashed at 4176 Route 20 and there are injuries. Mercy Flight is unavailable due to weather. The location is between Brown's Mill and Molasses Hill roads. Alexander Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding along with law enforcement. One person is reportedly unconscious. The westbound lane is blocked. Bethany Fire Police are called in for traffic control.

UPDATE 1:46 p.m.: No westbound traffic from Molasses Hill Road will be allowed onto Route 20 (Broadway Road).

UPDATE 1:52 p.m.: Route 63 will be shut down at Route 20 (Texaco Town) for westbound vehicles and Pavilion Fire Police are called to provide traffic control.

UPDATE 2:05 p.m.: One person is being transported to Strong Memorial Hospital.

UPDATE 2:15 p.m.: The driver of the pickup truck sustained fatal injuries. The passenger was taken to Strong. The driver of the semi, which has Oklahoma plates, is not injured.

UPDATE 2:24 p.m.: A heavy wrecker is called to tow the semi, which lost all of its fluids in the crash, and has / had a weight of 79,000 pounds.

UPDATE 2:42 p.m.: The driver of the semi is being transported via Alexander ambulance to UMMC for evaluation. He was able to get out of his rig unaided and any injuries he sustained are believed to be minor.

UPDATE 3:09 p.m.: The medic tells ER personnel the man has "zero injuries" and his transport there is precautionary.

UPDATE 4:25 p.m.: Route 63 at Route 20 is being reopened. Pavilion Fire Police will be in service shortly.

UPDATE 4:29 p.m.: All of westbound Route 20 is reopened and Bethany Fire Police are going back in service.
