Car strikes tree on Snipery Road, Corfu

A car struck a tree at 9396 Snipery Road and an occupant reportedly suffered a minor hip injury, which "will probably be a sign-off." Corfu Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 2:10 p.m.: Corfu has cancelled the response of Mercy medics.

UPDATE 2:45 p.m.: The Corfu assignment is back in service.

UPDATE 3:07 p.m.: Mercy medics are inbound to UMMC with a 29-year-old female who complains of right hip pain.

Accident with minor injuries, Town of Le Roy, Route 5

An accident with a minor injury is reported in the area of 7904 E. Main Road, Le Roy.

Fire police requested to the scene to shut down East Main at Asbury Road,

Le Roy fire and Le Roy ambulance dispatched. The ambulance can respond non-emergency.

Attica man charged with DWI in Pembroke crashes vehicle in Darien a few hours later

Jeffrey Russell Hamill, 34, of Attica, was charged with DWI, aggravated DWI, and speeding after a traffic stop on Route 77 in Pembroke about 1:43 this morning.

A few hours later, Hamill crashed his vehicle on Route 238 in the Town of Darien and had to be transported by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with a possible head injury.

According to Corfu Assistant Fire Chief Brian Schollard, Hamill called his girlfriend to give him a ride after being charged with DWI in Pembroke. After being processed on the charges by the the Genesee County Sheriff's Department, his girlfriend drove him to his vehicle. He proceeded to drive toward Attica and she followed him in her vehicle. 

About 4:40 a.m. Hamill's vehicle went off the road on Route 238 near Griswold Road in Darien. It went down a ravine, striking a tree before coming to rest. Side and front air bags were deployed.

Hamill was not seriously injured, but had an altered level of consciousness and a possible head injury.

Genesee County Sheriff's Office is investigating and charges are pending.

Car shears off power pole on Knapp Road, Pembroke

A car is well off the roadway and a utility pole is sheared off following an accident at the S-curve in the area of 611 Knapp Road. The vehicle has several occupants, but injuries, if any, are believed to be minor. There are guide wires, which are attached to the broken pole, across the roadway. Pembroke Fire Department is responding along with Mercy medics.

Two people injured in accident at Lewiston and West Main

Two people were injured Tuesday when their cars hit at the intersection of West Main Street and Lewiston Road, Batavia.

One driver said the light was red when he was attempting to make his left-hand turn,and the other driver said the light was yellow as he proceeded westbound on Route 5.

No citations were issued following the accident, which was reported at 7:40 p.m.

The driver of the first car is identified as David Pfenninger Jr., 34, of Bennett Road, Alexander.

The driver of the second vehicle is identified as Jacob Mark Finkney, 19, of Gabbey Road, Corfu.

Two passengers in Pfenninger's vehicle were injured. Jessica L. Miles, 31, and Jordana A. Miles, 14, were both transported to UMMC.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Tim Wescott.

Car crash at West Main and Lewiston

A motor-vehicle accident is reported at West Main Street and Lewiston Road. Town of Batavia Fire Department is called to respond along with Mercy medics.

UPDATE 7:45 p.m.: There was air bag deployment on one vehicle. Two injuries are reported -- one person with a head injury and another with lower leg pain.

UPDATE 8:02 p.m.: An adult female who suffered "a whack on the top of the head" has arrived at UMMC along with a 14-year-old who has knee pain. The accident was a "low speed" incident.

Car wreck with injuries on Stephen R. Hawley Drive near the college

A motor-vehicle accident with injuries is reported on Stephen R. Hawley Drive. The location is midway between Bank Street Road and Batavia-Stafford Town Line Road. Mercy medics, Town of Batavia Fire Department and Sheriff's deputies are responding.

UPDATE 6:42 p.m. : A second ambulance is requested. There are three patients.

UPDATE 6:45 p.m.: Traffic flow will be handled alternately, with one direction at a time being allowed to proceed.

UPDATE 7:01 p.m.: An 18-year-old female is being transported to UMMC with complaints of neck pain.

UPDATE 7:05 p.m.: The two remaining patients just arrived at UMMC via Mercy BLS #2. The driver says they were involved "in a minor fender-bender." No other details provided.

UPDATE 7:11 p.m.: Town of Batavia fire is back in service.

Motor-vehicle accident at Route 98 and West Saile Drive, Batavia

A motor-vehicle accident with unknown injuries is reported in front of Godwin Pumps, located at 8039 Oak Orchard Road (Route 98), and West Saile Drive. Town of Batavia Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 1:45 p.m.: A responder on scene says "traffic's a mess" and calls for back up for traffic control. She also calls for medics to expedite and says she has two people injured, one of whom "is about to pass out." Two flatbed tows are called ASAP, both are blocking the roadway.

UPDATE 1:54 p.m.: One vehicle is on the west shoulder of the road, the other is in the middle of the road. State Police have southbound Route 98 shut down and Fire Police are going to shut down westbound West Saile Drive. "Looks like everybody's out" says a responder of the vehicles' occupants.

UPDATE 1:58 p.m.: A second Mercy rig is called, emergency mode.

UPDATE 2:10 p.m.: One person is being transported to Strong Memorial Hospital.

UPDATE 2:29 p.m.: A 5-year-old boy is the patient being taken to Strong, reportedly for simply evaluation. It is possible his mother, the driver, is being transported there as well, but that was not confirmed. The two people in the other vehicle were taken to UMMC, one is a female and the other is a 21-year-old male. The roadways are reopened and the Town of Batavia Fire Department is back in service.

UPDATE (by Howard): According to Trooper Frank Velletta, the silver vehicle, driven by a woman from Medina, was pulled over to the side of the road for some reason and then pulled out into traffic to execute a U-turn. The silver car was T-boned by the SUV. 

Car strikes tree at Route 19 and Peachy Road in Bergen

A car struck a tree at Route 19 and Peachy Road and a person suffered a head injury. Bergen fire and Mercy medics are responding. The vehicle is well off the road.

UPDATE 9:28 a.m.: The location is north of Black Creek.

UPDATE 9:33 a.m.: The patient is alert and conscious.

Car hits tree at East Road and Route 20, minor head injury

A car has hit a tree on East Road at Route 20, Bethany, and a person has reportedly suffered a minor head injury.

Bethany fire and Mercy EMS responding.

UPDATE 9:24 a.m.: The patient will be transported to a hospital via Bethany ambulance.

UPDATE 9:31 a.m.: The patient is being taken to UMMC. Bethany units are back in service with the exception of fire police, who are told to stop traffic until the tow truck removes the car.

UPDATE 9:37 a.m.: The road is reopened.

UPDATE 9:46 p.m.: The driver is a 24-year-old female with complaints of pain in the left side of her neck and a headache.

Driver allegedly driving too fast for conditions, causing minor injury accident

A driver may have been going to fast for conditions at 8 p.m., Tuesday, when she apparently lost control of her car on Ledge Road in Alabama, causing a minor injury accident.

Cited for allegedly driving at a speed not reasonable or prudent was 20-year-old Jessica Metzler, of Portland.

Metzler was southbound on Reuben Road when she lost control of a 2010 Chevy sedan owned by Lauren Reinhardt, of Farmington. She drove off the left shoulder of Ledge Road, came back onto the roadway, drove off the south shoulder again, went back onto the roadway and into the westbound lane of Ledge Road and exited the north shoulder, hitting a sign post and then a large rock.

Reinhardt, 22, suffered a minor injury but did not require transportation to a hospital.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Tim Wescott.

Car vs. deer accident on Alexander Road in the Town of Batavia

A car vs. deer accident is reported at 9295 Alexander Road, near the intersection with Pike Road. The driver and her young children are apparently not injured but do require evaluation. Town of Batavia Fire Department is responding along with Mercy Medic #1.

UPDATE 6:38 p.m.: Responders report the deer has been dispatched. It is blocking one of the responder's trucks. There are a couple of sign-offs. Town of Batavia is told to return to service.

Car, pole accident in East Pembroke

A car, pole accident with possible minor injury has been reported on Stegman Road between Slusser and Powers roads.

Mercy Medic 1 and East Pembroke fire responding.

One subject is out of the vehicle walking around, talking on the phone. Mercy medic will be responding non-emergency.

Damage to the pole is minimal and the driver is shaken up a bit.

UPDATE 9:33 p.m.: Mercy Medic 1 on scene.

UPDATE 9:40 p.m.: National Grid has been notified about the pole.

UPDATE 9:43 p.m.: Mercy Medic 1 transporting one to UMMC.

UPDATE 9:52 p.m.: National Grid has a 35-minute ETA.

UPDATE 9:56 p.m.: East Pembroke assignment back in service.

Man's fall from 400 Towers in June ruled accidental

The Batavia Police Department has concluded an investigation regarding the death of William E. Hastings, who fell from a window of 400 Towers June 12, 2012.

The Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office has determined that the fall was accidental and toxicology points to a very high level of medication in his system causing him to be intoxicated at the time of his death.

Batavia Police say Hastings was alone in his apartment at the time of the incident. He spent a large amount of time at the window of his apartment observing the parking lot area to the east of the housing complex.

The investigation also revealed Hastings had a habit of abusing cough medication. The investigation, including an examination of the scene, has indicated his death was likely the result of an accidental fall.

Rollover accident with injury Route 63 Pavilion

A rollover accident on Route 63 near Telephone Road in Pavilion has been reported. Believed to be with minor injury.

Pavilion Fire Department is on scene and a Mercy medic is responding.

One person is complaining of a leg injury.

Motor-vehicle accident with injury Route 5 near Route 237

A motor-vehicle accident with injury has been reported in Stafford on Route 5, just east of Route 237. It is blocking.

Two Mercy medics and Stafford firefighters are on scene.

UPDATE 4:07 p.m: Fire police closing down Route 5 at Route 237

UPDATE 4:17 p.m.: One Mercy ambulance is transporting one person to UMMC, and the other subject is a sign-off. Only the eastbound lane is closed now.

Truck loses some of its scrap metal load, striking a parked snowmobile

A flatbed truck on Route 98 lost some of its scrap metal load, striking a parked snowmobile in front of Sunnyside Cycle Sales in Alexander. A vehicle driving behind the flatbed called 9-1-1 to report that the driver did not stop after the incident.

Sheriff's deputies reported a large back end of an old pickup truck in the road. The damage to the snowmobile is minimal.

Law enforcement has the flatbed truck stopped on Angling Road. The driver will return to Sunnyside Cycle Sales with his insurance information.
