Pickup truck and semi-truck involved in accident on Thruway in Pembroke

A pickup truck and a semi-truck have collided on the Thruway in the area of mile marker 400.7, in Pembroke.

There are possibly two injuries, a head injury and an arm injury.

The pickup truck came to rest in the woods.  The semi-truck is off the roadway.

Traffic is not blocked.

Pembroke and Indian Falls fire departments responding along with Mercy EMS.

UPDATE 4:39 p.m.: Two ambulances required. One injury is minor.  There is a person in the pickup truck being evaluated.

UPDATE 5:47 p.m.: Pembroke and Indian Falls back in service.

TA Travel Center in Pembroke suspected of distributing water-contaminated fuel

On April 11th, the Genesee County Health Department Weights and Measures Department received a complaint from a customer that purchased fuel from the TA Travel Center (8420 Alleghany Road) in Corfu, NY on April 6, 2022. After purchasing fuel, the car sustained damaged due to a high level of water in the fuel.  

After further investigation by Weights and Measures, the TA Travel Center received a similar complaint on April 6, 2022 and completed an investigation. They found that there was water in the fuel tank above the New York State limit and the establishment immediately discontinued pulling fuel from the problem tank on April 7, 2022.

Customers are asked to contact the TA Travel Center at 585-599-4577 and to select option 4 if they purchased regular (87 octane) or mid-grade (89 octane) fuel at this station from April 6-7, 2022 and your vehicle required repairs. Proof of purchase and vehicle repair is needed to file the claim.

Law and Order: Batavia man accused of displaying rifle during a disturbance

Tyrone Nathan Thigpen, Sr., 44, of Summit Street, Batavia, is charged with aggravated family offense, endangering the welfare of a child, menacing 2nd, and criminal possession of a weapon 4th.  Thigpen was charged after allegedly displaying a rifle during a disturbance in the presence of a woman and her children while on Batavia Elba Townline Road, Batavia, at 3:15 p.m., April 3. Thigpen was arraigned in Town of Batavia Court and ordered held without bail.

Mohammad Imran Nasir, 48, of Grandview Drive, Amherst, is charged with possessing 30,000 or more untaxed cigarettes for the purpose of sales and failure to signal a lane change.  Nasir was stopped at 6:53 p.m., March 31, on Route 77 in Pembroke, by Sgt. Andrew Hale.

(name redacted upon request), 47, of Alexander Road, Alexander, is charged with disobeying a mandate. xxxxx is accused of violating an order of protection at 7:20 a.m., March 28, in the Town of Alexander. He was issued an appearance ticket. He is also charged with criminal contempt 2nd for allegedly violating a stay-away order on five different occasions.

Jordan Ellsworth Brodie, 35, of West Bergen Road, Le Roy, is charged with DWI, driving with a BAC of .18 or greater, and driving an uninspected motor vehicle. Brodie was stopped at 2:54 a.m., April 3, on Griswold Road, Le Roy, by Deputy David Moore. He was issued an appearance ticket.

Logan Nathaniel Norcott, 25, of Lockpit Road, Clyde, is charged with criminal contempt 2nd. A person filed a complaint with the Genesee County Sheriff's Office that Norcott violated an order of protection at 7:45 p.m., March 24.  Norcott was taken into custody by the State Police in Wayne County and transferred to GCSO custody. He was arraigned in Town of Batavia Court and released on his own recognizance. 

Alicia K. Urban, 36, of Batavia, is charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17 years old, driving while impaired by drugs, and aggravated DWI with a child in the car. Urban was stopped by State Police at 7:49 p.m., March 29, in the Town of Batavia. She was issued an appearance ticket.

Sarah P. Lytle, 39, of Batavia, is charged with petit larceny. Lytle is accused of stealing in the Town of Batavia at 6 p.m., April 1. She was arrested by State Police. She was released on an appearance ticket. No further details released.

Trevor T. Cook, 31, of Holley, is charged with felony DWAI/Drugs. Cook was stopped by State Police at 3:02 a.m., April 2, in the Tonawanda Indian Territory. He was issued an appearance ticket. No further information released.

Devin J. Manning, 22, of Le Roy, is charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Manning was arrested by State Police in connection with an incident reported at 4:36 p.m., March 31, in the Town of Le Roy.  He was released on an appearance ticket. No further details were released.

Man suffers burns from fuel fire in Pembroke

Mercy Flight is landing at the Pembroke Fire Hall, responding to a burn-victim call in the area of 8600 South lake Road.

The victim is described as a man in his mid-50s with first and second-degree burns to his face, hands, and check from a fuel fire.

The fire is out.

The patient is conscious and breathing.

UPDATE 1:04 p.m.: Mercy Flight is airborne in route to ECMC. Pembroke Fire is back in service.

Law and Order: Pembroke man accused of pushing child

Kerwin Eric Ransom, 58, of Genesee Street, Pembroke, is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and harassment 2nd. Ransom is accused of pushing a pre-teen child. He was arraigned in Town of Pembroke Court, issued an order of protection, and released.

Tina Marie Baase, 59, of Hamlin, is charged with DWI, driving with a BAC of .18 or greater, and moving from lane unsafely. Baase was stopped at 9:34 p.m., March 26, on Route 98 in Batavia, by Deputy Jeremiah Gechell. Baase allegedly failed a field sobriety test. She was issued an appearance ticket.

Jessica Jean Easton, 38, of Easton Road, Esperance, is charged with DWI and driving with a BAC of.18 or greater. Easton was stopped at 8:50 p.m., March 26, on Gillate Road, Alexander, by Deputy Morgan Ewart. Easton was released on an appearance ticket.

Sierra Nicole Biegasiewicz, 31, of Ross Street, Batavia, is charged with petit larceny. Biegasiewicz is accused of shoplifting at Walmart. She was released on an appearance ticket.

GCEDC board approves financial assistance for development in Pembroke

The Genesee County Economic Development Center (GCEDC) Board of Directors approved financial assistance for a proposed $3.25 million project in the Buffalo East Tech Park at its board meeting on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.

J&R Fancher Property Holdings LLC plans to build a 52,332 sq. ft. facility in the town of Pembroke business park. The warehouse will include a 45,000 sq. ft. pre-engineered steel warehouse building with 7,332 sq. ft. office space.

This project will create four full-time positions and generate an estimated $9 in economic activity for every $1 of public investment. The project requested approximately $900,000 in sales, mortgage, and property tax exemptions.

A public hearing on the proposed project was held on March 21 in the town of Pembroke.

Located less than a mile from Interstate 90 Exit 48-A at State Highways 5 and 77, the Buffalo East Tech Park has previously enabled the construction of facilities for Yancey’s Fancy and Professional Turf Services.

J&R Fancher Property Holdings LLC is proposing to build a 52,332 sq. ft. facility in the town of Pembroke at the 67-acre Buffalo East Tech Park. The warehouse includes a 45,000 sq. ft. pre-engineered steel warehouse building with 7,332 sq. ft. office space.

The project would create four new jobs and generate an estimated $9 in economic activity for every $1 of public investment. The project has requested approximately $900,000 in sales, mortgage, and property tax exemptions.

A public hearing on the proposed project was held on March 21 in the town of Pembroke.

Law and Order: North Carolina man accused of possessing illegal weapon

Michael Alan Jones, 24, of Welford Road, Charlotte, N.C., is charged with criminal possession of an assault weapon 3rd, criminal possession of a weapon 3rd (ammunition feeding device), unsafe turn, number plate violation, driving an unregistered vehicle on a highway. During a traffic stop at 4:36 p.m., March 19, on School Road, Le Roy, by Deputy Kenneth Quackenbush, Jones was allegedly found in possession of an AR-15 rifle. He was arraigned in Town of Le Roy Court. He is scheduled to appear again on April 21.  Deputy Nicholas Charmoun assisted in the investigation.

Krystle Denise Sanders, 37, of East Avenue, Batavia, is charged with petit larceny.  Sanders is accused of shoplifting from Walmart at 10:43 a.m., March 18.  She was released on an appearance ticket.

Katherine Frances Foels, 36, of Elm Street, Attica, is charged with petit larceny. Foels is accused of shoplifting from a store on Veterans Memorial Drive in Batavia. The name and address of the store were withheld from the press release. Foels was released on an appearance ticket.

Adam Eugene Bortle, 38, of Lackawanna Street, Wayland, is charged with promoting prison contraband and three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Bortle was transported to the Genesee County Jail after being arrested on a warrant. He reportedly denied possessing any narcotics or other contraband.  He was allegedly found in possession of controlled substances during a search.  He was held until arraignment at a later date.

Ryan Thomas O'Connor, 37, of Center Street, East Aurora, is charged with DWI, driving left of pavement markings, and moving from lane unsafely.  O'Connor was stopped on Route 77 in Pembroke at 10:59 p.m., March 19, by Deputy Trevor Sherwood. He was issued an appearance ticket.

Anthony Daniel Micucci, 27, of Darien Alexander Townline Road, Alexander, is charged with escape 2nd.  Micucci was reportedly arrested on a warrant and while entering Town of Pembroke Court at 3:45 p.m, March 12, Micucci allegedly escaped from custody by running from law enforcement. He was taken into custody by Deputy Kevin McCarthy after a foot pursuit. He is also charged with three counts of criminal contempt 1st for allegedly violating an order of protection by calling the protected party in a complete stay-away order.  He was issued an appearance ticket.

David Michael Martin, 61, of West 6th Avenue, San Manuel, Arizona, is charged with bail jumping second.  Martin was arrested in Arizona and extradited to New York after allegedly failing to appear in Genesee County Court on a grand larceny 3rd charge.  He was arraigned in County Court and ordered held on $5,000 bail.

Sean G. Johnston, no age or residence provided, is charged with assault 3rd. Johnston was charged following an investigation by Le Roy PD into a disturbance at an apartment building in the Village of Le Roy.  No date or time for the disturbance provided. Johnson was issued an appearance ticket.

Cyle Hindle, no age or residence provided, is charged with felony DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation 1st, and driving with unsafe tires. Hindle was stopped by Le Roy PD at a time and date and location not specified in the release. He was issued an appearance ticket.

Brian M. Raphael, 33, of Batavia, is c charged with petit larceny. Raphael is accused of taking a package delivered by Amazon from the porch of a residence on Summit Street on March 11 at 12:01 p.m. Raphael was allegedly found with the package by Batavia PD after the resident was notified by Amazon that the package had been delivered.  He was issued an appearance ticket.

Brooke M. Davis, 29, of Medina, was arrested on a warrant. Davis is accused of failing to appear for a court appearance in the Town of Batavia. Davis was arraigned in Town of Batavia Court and released on her own recognizance.

Leroy M. Stafford, 41, of Basom, is charged with felony DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation 1st, and driving without an interlock device. Stafford was stopped by State Police at 8:54 p.m., March 20, in the City of Niagara Falls. He was released on an appearance ticket.

Steven A. Wasielewski, 38, of Pembroke, is charged with criminal obstruction of breathing. Wasielewski was arrested by State Police in connection with an incident reported at 12:21 p.m., March 20, in the Town of Pembroke. He was released on an appearance ticket. No further information released.

Pembroke dominates Pavilion 68-45 in Class C2 quarterfinal

Pembroke boys had an explosive second half to defeat Pavilion 68-45 in section five class C2 quarterfinal last evening.

  • Junior captain Cayden Pfalzer led Pembroke with 23 points
  • Guards Jon Suro scored 14 points including eight free throws and two three-pointers, Tyson Totten scored 13, Avery Ferreira scored 10 points.
  • Zack Tillotson scored five three-point buckets and three free throws for Pavilion.

Pembroke #3 seed now 15-6 will play #2 Oakfield-Alabama this Monday, at a time and site to be determined

Law and Order: Man accused of stealing money from a family member

Ryder J. Berry, 21, of Farmersville Station, is charged with grand larceny 3rd. Berry is accused of stealing money from a family member at 10:15 a.m., Oct. 12, at a location on Summit Street, Batavia. He was arraigned in City Court and released under supervision.

Linda L. Snyder, 39, of Batavia, is charged with two counts of criminal mischief 4th and two counts of harassment 2nd. Snyder was allegedly involved in a disturbance at 7:34 p.m., Feb. 12, on Highland Park, Batavia. Snyder was released on appearance tickets.

Casey T. Vaughn, 32, of Batavia, is charged with no lights on a bicycle, obstruction of governmental administration, and petit larceny. Vaughn allegedly led police on a foot pursuit after an attempted traffic stop at 1:12 a.m., Feb. 13. he was eventually apprehended in the area of Haller Place, Batavia. At the time of his apprehension, it was determined he was also wanted on four outstanding warrants. Vaughn was arraigned in City Court and released.

Lynn M. Homer, 48, is charged with petit larceny and conspiracy 6th. Homer is accused of shoplifting from a business on Ellicott Street at 5:45 p.m., Feb. 4. Homer was released on an appearance ticket. Also charged, Joseph W. Freeman, 37, of Batavia.

Shawn M. Twardowski, 39, of Batavia, is charged with two counts of trespass and one count of criminal trespass 2nd. Twardowski allegedly refused to leave UMMC at 1:05 a.m., Feb. 11.  He also allegedly entered a business on East Main Street, Batavia, at 7:56 a.m., Feb. 10, that he had previously been told he could not enter. He also allegedly entered a business on East Main Street at 1:42 p.m., Feb. 10, that he had previously been told he could not enter.  He was issued an appearance ticket in all three cases.

Samuel Dominic Tabone, 28, of Rochester, is charged with offering a false instrument for filing. Tabone is accused of committing a crime of an unspecified nature on Feb. 18 at a location on East Main Street, Pembroke. His release status is unknown.

More than $2 million awarded in bids for Pembroke schools project

Pembroke Central School Board approved more than $2 million in bids for its 2021 capital improvement project during a special meeting conducted this past Thursday.

Superintendent Matthew Calderon said the meeting was called so that the bids and project could move forward “sooner than later.”

A total of $2,139,223.25 was approved for the following individual bids:

  • $496,775.79 to Edward Holme, Inc. for site work$756,000 to Willett Builders, Inc. for general trades work
  • $107,000 to Parise Mechanical, Inc. for mechanical work
  • $445,000 to DV Brown & Associates for plumbing
  • $293,913.73 to Astroturf Corp. for track resurfacing
  • $40,533.73 to Johnson Controls, Inc. for energy-efficient temperature controls

The project, approved by district voters in 2021, covers renovations and upgrades that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and per the district’s Building Conditions survey. Work includes:

Pembroke High School - Install auditorium ADA stage lift, ADA upgrades in restrooms throughout the building, install discus cage fencing (a safety issue), resurface the track, which has been deemed to be "at the end of its life."

Pembroke Intermediate School - Install auditorium ADA stage lift, ADA upgrades to the first and second floor main restrooms, retrofit the existing auditorium house lights, replacement of flooring in corridors, cafeteria, and select rooms.

Pembroke Primary School - Install auditorium ADA stage lift, asphalt reconstruction of parking lot and driveway around the building.

District officials have said the project will not affect taxpayers since a majority of the cost — 73 percent — is to be paid from state aid, and $1.1 million from the Capital Reserve Fund.

Law and Order: New Jersey man accused of driving stolen vehicle in Pembroke

Richard N. Ervin, 34, of Clinton Street, Newark, N.J., is charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, and aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd. Ervin is accused of being in possession of a stolen vehicle at 9:56 p.m., Feb. 15, on Alleghany Road, Pembroke. Ervin was arrested by Deputy Jeremiah Gechell.

Vivon Larue Wenner, II, 57, of East Oak Orchard, Medina, is charged with felony driving while ability impaired by drugs, felony DWI, driving left of the pavement markings, and following too closely.  Wenner was arrested following an investigation into a traffic stop at 6:55 a.m., Nov. 4, on Lewiston Raod, Oakfield, by Deputy Jordan Alejandro. Wenner was released on an appearance ticket.

Collin Robert Grimes, 22, of Oakridge Drive, Irondequoit, is charged with DWI, driving with a BAC of .08 or greater, unsafe tires, moving from lane unsafely, and speed not reasonable and prudent. Grimes was stopped at 5 a.m., Feb. 13, on Mullen Road, Stafford, by Deputy Morgan Ewert.

Eric David Murphy, 43, residence no specified, is charged with DWI, driving with a BAC of .08 or greater, an uninspected motor vehicle. Murphy was stopped at 2:24, Feb. 13, at a location in Le Roy, by Officer Jordon Wolcott.

Shawn Michael Twardowski, 39, of Lake Street, Le Roy, is charged with petit larceny.  Twardowski is accused of stealing two alcoholic beverages from Sav-A-Lot in Le Roy at 9:47 a.m., Feb. 16. He was released on an appearance ticket.

Joseph Conklin, 41, of North Avenue, is charged with criminal contempt 2nd.  Conklin was located by Le Roy patrol officers Curtis Miller and Stephen Cappotelli in the basement of a residence on North Street, Le Roy, at 3:17 p.m., Feb. 11, in violation of a court order. He was released on an appearance ticket.

Thomas R. Collins, 51, of Sunnyside Lane, North Chili, is charged with DWI, driving with a BAC of .08 or greater, resisting arrest, failure to obey traffic device, and obstruction of governmental administration. Collins was stopped at 8:48 p.m., Feb. 8, on West Main Street, Le Roy, by Officer John Ceneviva.  He was released on traffic tickets.

Coby L. Sanders, 43, of Church Street, Le Roy, is charged with criminal contempt 2nd and endangering the welfare of a child. Sanders is accused of acting in a manner injuries to the mental health of someone under 17 years old during a disturbance reported on Church Street at 12:45 p.m., Feb. 13. He was released on an appearance ticket.

Kenneth R. Scott, 59, of Britt Road, Le Roy, is charged with DWI, driving with a BAC of .08 or greater, driving with a BAC of .18 or greater, and unsafe movement of a stopped vehicle. Scott was stopped at 11:30 p.m., Feb. 12, on Main Street, Le Roy, by Officer John Ceneviva. He was issued traffic tickets and released.
