Even though this game counts as a non-league contest, it is a big game between two top Genesee Region League squads that are still playing for a lot.

Pembroke lost out on the GR title with a loss to Oakfield-Alabama last week, but is playing for the No. 3 seed in the Class C playoffs. The Dragons would get the third seed with a victory and could drop to as far as No. 5, which would mean they lose that first round home game.

 Attica suffered two losses during the earlier part of the season and is going to be using this game to prepare for the Class B playoffs. The Blue Devils typically do not do well in sectionals but want momentum heading into the tournament.

Attica is coming off a 50-15 drubbing of Holley and is firing on all cylinders offensively.

Andy Ruddock leads the squad in rushing, picking up 847 yards with nine touchdowns on 87 carries. Nate Berry follows with 20 attempts for 225 yards and four scores. Luke Pariso has 143 yards and four TDs.

The passing game has really come into its own.

Brandon Rollins had his best week of the year last week and threw for 205 yards and three touchdowns. He has completed 45-of-70 attempts for 675 yards, 11 touchdowns and six interceptions this year.

His big target is Shawn Dupuis, who caught seven passes for 137 yards and two TDs last week. Dupuis now has 23 receptions for 485 yards and six scores.

Pembroke's defense will have its hands full with this crew. But the Blue Devils also have a big challenge.

Andrew Wright and the Pembroke offense has been amazing this season. Even last week when Oakfield-Alabama was able to hold Wright in check, quarterback David Kleckler stepped up and nearly delivered his team a win with some amazing passes.

Kleckler now has completed 25-of-50 passes for 600 yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions. He has 259 yards rushing, with a pair of scores as well.

Wright has huge numbers. He has ran the ball 51 times for 623 yards and eight touchdowns, has caught 13 passes for 340 yards and three scores and has returned two kicks for TDs.

Mike Dibble has rushed for 433 yards and eight touchdowns on 77 carries and J.P. Phillips has added 271 yards and six scores.

Ken Babcock has 11 receptions for 230 yards and four TDs.

Both teams will kick off the playoffs next weekend.

The Notre Dame Boys Cross Country Team came away with the crown on Saturday at the Pembroke Invitational.  ND knocked off Pembroke, the number one ranked Section V small school, by eleven points for the victory.  ND has been ranked third in the polls behind the Dragons and Oakfield. 

Freshman Quin O'Connor (17:17) placed third in the race, just a couple of seconds behind second place finisher Colin Bartholomew of Pembroke.  The Irish placed their top 5 runners in the top 15 of the race to secure the victory over the Dragons.  Kevin Pawlak finished 6th for the Irish in 17:51, with Matt Jackson 9th in 18:12, Nate Flumerfeldt 12th (18:26) and Eric Shormann 14th in 18:38.

The Genesee/Livingston Cross Country League finishes up their regular season this Tuesday.  The Irish are in a position to win the Division III title with wins over Pavilion and Alexander at Pembroke.  HFL looks to have Division I all wrapped up and Oakfield in full control of the Divison II title.

My high school football previews have been pushed back until Thursday this week because I'm working on something special.

 There is a very interesting race going on in Genesee Region League girls soccer.

There is a three-way race for the goal scoring title and a two-way race for the goal scoring title. It is mixed with players from Division I and II.

Wheatland-Chili's Lauren Drago has 20 goals and 12 assists, for 52 points to lead Division II. 

The Wildcats are currently 9-2 and lead Division II. Elba is second at 6-3-2.

W-C is the most potent scoring team in the division as Taylor Smith is third in the division with 13 goals and eight assists for 34 points.

Carrie Grande is fourth with eight goals and nine helpers, for 25 points.

Drago is currently one goal behind Pembroke's Nicole Sharick for the goal scoring title. Sharick leads all GR scorers with 21 goals, but has nine assists and is at 51 total points, one behind Drago.

The Dragons are in first in Division I with a 9-2-1 record with  Alexander in second at 8-3-1.

Alexander's leading scorer is Rachel Pettys, who is eighth with seven goals, two assists and 16 points.

Byron-Bergen's Stacy Maskell and Holley's Emily Troup are tied for second in scoring with nine goals, three assists and 21 points apiece.

Elba's Chelsi Clark is just one goal behind Drago and Sharick with 19. She also has five assists for 43 points.

 I was just taking a look at the current standings for the Section 5 Tournaments and figured I would relay where are local teams are and what that means come playoff time.

The most exciting tournament locally will be in Class C, where local team currently hold the top 3 spots.

Le Roy sits at 5-0 and has the top seed at this point with two big games left on the schedule. A pair of victories over Class DD Caledonia-Mumford and Class B Hornell would wrap up that spot.

Oakfield-Alabama and Pembroke are both also undefeated and are No. 2 and 3, respectively. Those two teams will be playing each other on Friday night and the winner will have the upper-hand on the second seed, with a shot at No. 1 if Le Roy loses either of its final two games.

Pembroke will host Class B Attica in the final week of the season and O-A will host Class C Holley.

Elba/Byron-Bergen (1-4) and Holley (0-5) are the other two local teams in Class C and at this point it looks like the Hawks are eliminated and will be playing Pool Play games.

The Lancers are probably going to need a victory over Class D Notre Dame this weekend and/or a victory over Section 6's Bishop Walsh in Week 7 to get in. Elba/B-B is the 9th seed right now with the same record as No. 8 Dansville. No. 7 South Seneca (3-2) is too far ahead to be caught.

Attica and Batavia are both 3-2 and look to be fairly safe in Class B as far as making the tournament.

Wayland-Cohocton, Penn Yan and Waterloo are all 1-4 and would need a lot of things to go their way to get in.

But both local Blue Devil squads have a chance to move up as high as No. 5 as Palmyra-Macedon and Livonia share records with Attica and Batavia.

Batavia will play East Rochester/Gananda - the current No. 4 seed - and Geneva - the current No. 1 seed - to wrap up the regular season.

Attica will play Holley and then Pembroke.

Cal-Mum is 5-0 and has the top seed in Class DD, but Alexander moved closer to getting the No. 3 seed with last week's victory over Elba/Byron-Bergen. The Trojans are 2-3 and the fourth seed, with Avon at No. 3.

Alexander will need a win over Barker - which is 1-4 with the No. 6 seed in Class DD - and an Avon loss against Class C Letchworth to move up to the No. 3 seed.

The Class DD and D playoffs start a week sooner than the higher classes.

Notre Dame is 3-2 and currently has the No. 4 seed in Class D. As far as I can tell, the Fighting Irish could end up anywhere from No. 2 through No. 6 depending on the outcome of the games this weekend.

Pembroke and Alexander squared off in Pembroke Monday with sole possession of 1st place on the line and Pembroke came away with a well earned 1-0 victory in a hard fought game.  The 1st half saw only two real scoring chances, one by Pembroke which rang off the crossbar and one by Alexander that was blown offsides (quite possibly incorrectly) on a direct kick from midfield.  Pembroke had the better of the posession in the 1st half but neither team generated many good looks on the goal.

The 2nd half was a highly entertaining half which saw both teams create several scoring chances with none finding the net.  Alexander's 8th grade defender Abby Shilvock had Pembroke's top scorer Nicole Sharrick under wraps for the majority of the game as Sharrick only managed to put a couple dangerous crosses at the front of the net throughout the game.

In a 8 minute span in the middle of the 2nd half Alexander had 6 shots from inside the 18 but didn't strike any of them that well and none managed to find their way into the net.  Pembroke had a couple crosses that went through the 6 yard box on the ground but none of them were connected on the back post.

With both teams playing at such a high level it was going to take a mistake or fantastic shot for either team to put a goal in the back of the net.  With just over 3 minutes left in the game both happened on the same play.  An Alexander defender committed an unnecessary foul near the right sideline about 18 yards off the endline and the direct kick was fired in at the far post.  Goalkeeper Hannah Wilson couldn't get enough on her jump and the ball found the far side netting to give Pembroke a 1-0 lead.  Alexander pushed everything forward for the last 3 minutes but was unable to get a ball in the net.

It was a very even game overall with both teams accounting for 3 corners, around 8 saves for each goalie, and around 12 shots on goal.  It was a fantastic game, congrats to Pembroke on the hard fought win.  They are alone atop the GR standings 1 game ahead of Alexander (and they also hold the tiebreaker) with 3 games remaining for each team.  Holley is a game and a half behind with 4 to play and Bergen is 2 behind with 5 games remaining.

Cornerstone Church of Eat Pembroke, 2583 Main Road, will host a chicken and biscuit dinner Sunday, Oct. 26 at 12:30 p.m. until sold out.

Price is $8 for adults, $300 for children 5-12 and children under 5 are free.

dinner include homemade biscuits, mashed potatoes, vegetable, cabbage salad, dessert and beverage.

A cash drawing will follow the dinner, with a first prize of $300.

 Five different Pembroke rushers helped the Dragons pound host Barker 48-6 Saturday afternoon.

Andrew Wright again had the big day, in fact he had a huge day.

Wright rushed the ball eight times for 113 yards and a touchdown, caught all five passes completed by David Kleckler for 115 yards and a score and returned a punt 58 yards for a TD. That gives him 286 all-purpose yards.

Mike Dibble had 11 carries for 58 yards and two touchdowns and Josh Phillips had nine rushes for 50 yards and a pair of TDs. Andy Gabbey carried the ball five times for 32 yards.

Kleckler had four rushes for 45 yards and completed 5-of-10 attempts for 115 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Gabbey had 13 tackles and Dibble added 10.

Greg Brown had 20 carries for 75 yards to lead the Raiders (1-4), who plays at Alexander (2-3) next Saturday.

Pembroke improves to 5-0 and will be at 5-0 Oakfield-Alabama next Friday night in what will probably decide the Genesee Region League title.

This is one of those games that the Pembroke football team has to worry about.

With the Genesee Region League title possibly on the line next week against Oakfield-Alabama, the Dragons have to make the longest trip to play in the GR and are facing a Barker squad that has the potential to play with any team in the league.

The victories have come easy so far for Chip Foster's squad and his players are putting up some crazy numbers. But the Raiders are physical and a team on the rise, always looking for the upset at home.

Pembroke's offensive line deserves a lot of the credit for the numbers the team has been putting up. The telling stat is what quarterback David Kleckler has done this season.

Kleckler has completed 16-of-28 attempts for 415 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions. But he has only been sacked ONCE all season long.

That is unbelievable.

Andrew Wright and Ken Babcock have both had receiving numbers that are pretty close. 

Wright has caught seven passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns while Babcock has hauled in nine balls for 198 yards and three scores.

And the running game has been just as good.

Wright has gained 426 yards on just 31 carries (13.74 yards per attempt) with six touchdowns, Mike Dibble has 332 yards with six scores, Josh Phillips has 216 yards and four TDs and Kleckler has gained 185 yards with two touchdowns.

Barker is a physical team that traditionally likes to run the ball, but has done some passing this year.

Anthony Porter (9-of-17 for 63 yards) and Ethan Dewart (9-of-16 for 122 yards) are putting up about the same amount of passes per game.

But the Raiders will run.

Greg Brown has 348 yards and three touchdowns on 81 carries and Ray Paul has 175 yards and two TDs on 39 attempts.

Pembroke scored 29 points in the second quarter and had a 49-7 lead after three in taking care of Elba/Byron-Bergen 56-21 Saturday.

The Dragons continued putting up absurd offensive numbers.

Andrew Wright picked up 138 yards and a TD with a fumble recovery for a touchdown and Josh Phillips had just eight carries, but gained 118 yards and scored twice.

Mike Dibble gained 98 yards and scored three times and David Kleckler went 5-for-5 for 98 yards with a 36-yard touchdown pass to Ken Babcock.

Zach Green scored two fourth quarter touchdowns for the Lancers (1-3) and finished with 137 rushing yards. Eric Kowalik also tossed a touchdown pass to David Garnish.

Pembroke is now 4-0.
