On Senior Night, with a girls and boys basketball doubleheader, Pavilion officially unveiled its new Golden Gophers logo, with their gopher mascot carrying the flag.

In the girls' game, Pavilion prevailed over Mt. Morris 54-46. Mt. Morris won the nightcap over the boys 77-56.

Genesee County 4-H member Emily Boldt has been selected to represent the New York State 4-H Program as a youth delegate at the 2017 National 4-H Conference. 

The National 4-H Conference is the pinnacle experience in 4-H Citizenship, providing an opportunity for young people to connect, engage, lead and learn how to impact their communities, their nation and their world.

The 2017 National 4-H Conference will be held March 25-30 in Chevy Chase, Md. Youth delegates from across the United States will explore current issues affecting youth, the role 4-H can play in addressing those issues, and tell federal decision makers if their current efforts are effective. 

Emily is a junior at Pavilion High School. She has been actively involved in the Genesee County 4-H Program for the past seven years and has taken on leadership roles within several areas. Emily is the current president of the Genesee County 4-H Rustic Riders Horse Club and also attended the 2016 4-H Career Explorations Conference at Cornell University.

The Pavillion Golden Gophers have a new mascot, designed by Jeff McGee, a 1999 graduate of Pavilion.

The mascot will be officially unveiled during the varsity boys and girls basketball games Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Several cars are reportedly off the road and travel on Route 63 through Pavilion has become difficult.

Fire police have been dispatched to Route 63 and Route 20, and Route 63 and Route 19 to shut down traffic in the area.

Multiple deputies have responded to assist motorists.

UPDATE (By Billie) 7:24 p.m.: A stranded semi has been removed and a heavy tow is hooking up a bus for removal now. DOT workers are expected soon. The roadway remains closed.

Daniel John Kearney, 57, of Genesee Street, Pembroke, is charged with second-degree harassment and reckless driving. At 8:25 p.m. on Dec. 23, following an investigation of a road-rage incident, it is alleged that Kearney struck another driver in the face and cut off the other driver while on Pearl Street Road, Batavia. He was arrested and arraigned in Town of Batavia Court and released on his own recognizance. The case was handled by Sheriff's Deputy Kyle Krzemien, assisted by Sgt. Thomas Sanfratello.

Sergio Ivan Santana-Santana, 35, of State Street, Batavia, is charged with: operating a motor vehicle with a BAC over .08 -- a felony; driving while intoxicated, felony; first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation; and unlicensed driver. At 5:32 p.m. on Dec. 24, the Emergency Dispatch Center received a call about subjects fighting in the area of routes 33 and 237 in the Town of Stafford. Investigation at the scene allegedly revealed that the defendant was driving with a revoked license and while intoxicated. He was arraigned in Stafford Town Court and jailed on $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond, with a return court date of Jan. 12. The case was handled by Sheriff's Deputy Cassidy Longhini, assisted by Deputy Kevin McCarthy.

Daniel J. Eastridge, 21, of Hutchins Street, Batavia, is charged with: passing a solid red light; failure to stop at stop sign (two counts); driving the wrong direction on a one-way street; DWI; and aggravated DWI -- BAC of .18 percent or higher. He was also cited for having insufficient tail lamps and failure to use a turn signal. The charges were issued following a traffic stop at 2:21 a.m. on Dec. 24 on Denio Street in Batavia after Eastridge was allegedly observed failing to yield for a steady red signal. He was determined to have been operating the vehicle while allegedly intoxicated. He is due in City Court on Jan. 10. The case was handled by Batavia Police Officer Chad Richards, assisted by Officer Christopher Lindsay.

Judy A. Stiles, 58, of Sheppard Road, Pavilion, is charged with: operating a motor vehicle without headlights; following too closely; DWI; and aggravated DWI -- having a BAC of .18 percent or higher. The charges stem from a motor-vehicle accident that occured at 7:24 p.m. on Dec. 16 on West Main Street in Batavia. It is alleged that Stiles struck another vehicle that was stopped for a red light. During the investigation, it was allegedly determined that Stiles had been operating her vehicle while intoxicated. She was issued an appearance ticket for City Court on Jan. 3. The case was handled by Batavia Police Officer Chad Richards, assisted by Officer Nicole Salamone.

James A. Hough, 43, of Harvester Avenue, Batavia, is charged with: DWI -- with a previous conviction within the last 10 years; refusal to take a breath test; and moving from lane unsafely. At 9:47 p.m. on Dec. 17, Batavia PD was dispatched to Richmond Avenue for a motor-vehicle accident. After investigation, Hough was allegedly found to have been operating the vehicle while intoxicated and he was arrested. He was due back in City Court on Dec. 20. The case was handled by Batavia Police Officer Nicole Salamone, assisted by Officer Mitchell Cowen.

Joseph Tucker, no age provided, of Salem Road, Rochester, was involved in a one-vehicle accident on Route 33 in the Town of Byron at around 11:25 p.m. on Dec. 17. According to the Sheriff's Office statement, the vehicle drvien by Tucker was traveling at an unsafe speed for the icy weather conditions. Tucker lost control of the vehicle and drove off the southeast shoulder of the roadway and struck a tree. Three of the six occupants were transported to Rochester General Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Jamie L. Broadbent, 33, of Thorpe Street, Batavia, is charged with: resisting arrest; petit larceny; fourth-degree criminal mischief; and third-degree criminal tampering. At 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 17, Batavia PD responded to the Dollar General store on East Main Street for the report of a female concealing items. Police confronted Broadbent after she passed the point of sale and at that time she allegedly resisted arrest. She was subsequently taken into custody, arraigned in City Court and jailed on $3,000 bail. She was due back in court on Dec. 19. The case was handled by Batavia Police Officer Arick Perkins, assisted by Sgt. Dan Coffey.

Noel M. Wentworth, 47, of Pringle Avenue, Batavia, is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree. Wentworth was arrested at 10:01 a.m. on Dec. 5 at Batavia City Centre and issued an appearance ticket. A small quantity of crack cocaine was allegedly found inside Wentworth's wallet. Wentworth is due in City Court on Jan. 10. The case was handled by Batavia Police Officer James DeFreze, assisted by Officer Jason Davis.

James J. Preedom, 32, of Walnut Street, Batavia, is charged with unnecessary noise. He was arrested at 2:22 a.m. on Dec. 21 on Walnut Street following several noise complaints and warnings. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to City Court on Jan. 3. The case was handled by Batavia Police Officer Felicia DeGroot, assisted by Officer Peter Flanagan.

Brittani Louise Diaz, 18, of East Shelby Road, Oakfield, is charged with grand larceny, 4th. Diaz is accused of stealing from her employer, Walmart. Diaz, with the assistance of another employee, allegedly stole $1,500 from the store while employed as a cashier. 

Dylan James Maychoss, 20, of Snipery Road, Corfu, is charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and inadequate exhaust. Maychoss was stopped at 2:43 a.m. on East Main Street, Corfu, by Deputy Eric Meyer.

Christopher R. Stowell, no age or residence provided, is charged with driving while ability impaired by alcohol, unsafe lane change, unreasonable speed, operating in violation of restrictions and aggravated unlicensed operation, 1st. Stowell was charged in connection with an accident Sept. 6 in Pavilion. Stowell reportedly lost control of his motorcycle. He and a passenger were hospitalized for several days as a result.

Bradley Scott Baldwin, 20, of Peacefield Road, Pine City, is charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. Baldwin's vehicle was stopped for an alleged traffic violation at 2:37 a.m. Thursday on Bank Street, Batavia, by Deputy Andrew Hale.

Clint Jacob Reed, 19, Peart Avenue, Rochester, is charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs and inadequate headlamps. Reed was stopped at 9:55 p.m. Tuesday on East Saile Drive, Batavia, by Deputy Ryan DeLong.

Stacey Dawn Mancuso, 46, of Jamison Road, Elma, is charged with two counts of felony DWI, driving with a BAC of .18 or greater, aggravated unlicensed operation, 1st, aggravated unlicensed operation, 3rd, and no right and no left turn signal. Mancuso was stopped at 2:22 p.m. Sunday on Pratt Road, Batavia, by Deputy Richard Schildwaster. A passenger in the vehicle was reportedly 5 years old, leading to a charge under Leandra's Law. She also allegedly had a prior DWI conviction within the past 10 years. She was jailed on $10,000 bail.

Daniel John Moore, 36, of Asbury Road, Pavilion, is charged with harassment, 2nd, and criminal mischief, 4th. Moore was arrested after deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident in Pavilion at 8:10 a.m., Nov. 30. Moore allegedly had physical contact during the argument with a person who had called 9-1-1 and Moore allegedly terminated the 9-1-1 call. He reportedly left the scene before deputies arrived and was later located that night and arrested.

Dylan Michael Cobernus, 20, of Maxon Street, Brockport, is charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and speeding. Cobernus was stopped at 10:37 p.m. Wednesday on Route 98, Elba, by Deputy Ryan DeLong.

Devan Dashaun Hazel, 22, of Lewis Place, Batavia, is charged with trespassing. Hazel is accused of trespassing on College Village property at 5:43 a.m. Sunday.

A 17-year-old resident of Harris Road, Le Roy, is charged with criminally using drug paraphernalia, 2nd, criminal impersonation, 2nd, criminal possession of a controlled substance, 7th, criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument and unlawful possession of marijuana. The youth was arrested following an investigation by Deputy Micheal Lute into an incident reported at 11:30 p.m. Dec. 5 on Route 77 in Pembroke. The youth was jailed on $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond.

Taheed Mical Moffett, 31, of Arnet Boulevard, Rochester, is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal use of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of marijuana. Moffett was arrested after deputies were dispatched at 12:11 a.m. to the Econo Lodge on Route 77, Pembroke, to check the welfare of an individual.

Joseph Dwayne Powell, 49, of Telephone Road, Le Roy, is charged with felony DWI, felony driving with a BAC of .08 or greater, promoting prison contraband, 2nd, unlawful possession of marijuana and insufficient tail lamp. Powell was stopped at 9:10 p.m. Sept. 16 on Black Street Road, Pavilion, by Deputy Ryan DeLong. Powell was transported to the Genesee County Jail for processing and was allegedly found in possession of marijuana inside the jail.

Kevin Michael Horn, 49, of Conway Road, Bethany, is charged with trespassing. Horn allegedly walked onto posted property on Molasses Hill Road, Bethany.

A tractor-trailer is reportedly on fire at the Yellow Goose in Pavilion, the corner of Route 63 and Route 19.

The Pavilion Cub Scouts collected more than 250 food items this morning for the Pavilion food pantry. The pantry helps more than 30 families in the area and this is its busiest time of year.

Micheal S. Lytle, 27, and Sarah P. Lytle, 33, both of Tracy Avenue, Batavia, are charged with charged with criminal possession of stolen property, 4th. The couple is accused of using a stolen debit card to make several purchases totaling $790 on Oct. 11 and then making another $74 in purchases on Oct. 12.

Jordan Deskins, 19, of County House Road, Albion, is charged with petit larceny. Deskins is accused of shoplifting from Kmart.

Ajia Rae Hasenauer, 23, of Main Street, Batavia, is charged with petit larceny and falsifying business records, 1st. Hasenauer is accused of taking cash from a friend to register that friend at a hotel, then not registering that friend's name and placing the cash in the till.

Alexander Edwin Dills, 26, of Ellicott Street Road, Pavilion, is charged with criminal possession of marijuana, no front plate and uninspected motor vehicle. Dills was stopped at 11:41 a.m. Wednesday on Route 77, Corfu, by Deputy Chris Parker. During the traffic stop, Dills was allegedly found to possess two smoking pipes with marijuana, a marijuana grinder, a marijuana cigar and paper containing approximately four ounces of marijuana.

Kari W. Adams II, 32, of Covington Road, Leicester, is charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and speeding. Adams was stopped at 5:12 a.m. Wednesday on Route 63, Pavilion, by Deputy Jeremy McClellan.

Leonard E. Aguayo, 29, of Affinity Lane, Rochester, is charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, aggravated unlicensed operation, 2nd, and speeding. Aguayo was stopped at 3 p.m. Tuesday on Route 33, Byron, by Deputy Kevin Forsyth. Upon investigation, Aguayo was allegedly found to have 12 failures to appear on traffic citations from seven different dates. Based on the alleged detection of the odor of marijuana, Aguayo consented to a search of his vehicle and was allegedly found in possession of marijuana. Aguayo was jailed on $500 bail.

Craig L. Fien Jr., 44, of Le Roy, is charged with petit larceny and resisting arrest. Fien is accused of stealing a microwave oven and vacuum cleaner from Target. When confronted by Target security, Fien allegedly push passed security personnel and attempted to flee the premises. Fien was apprehended by an off-duty police officer who detained him until troopers arrived. He was jailed on $300 bail.

Pavilion Central School was on lockdown for a period of time this morning after a threatening post was spotted on social media.

Chief Deputy Gordon Dibble said the Wyoming County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation. We've reached out to the WCSO for more information.

"We understand they have addressed the threat and have things under control," Dibble said. " We only have patrols in the area of the school as a precaution."

UPDATE 10:43 a.m.: Pavilion Superintendent Ken Ellison said the school was never on an official lockdown. There were deputies in the area as an extra precaution, but an actual lockdown was never initiated. Ellison said the district became aware of a threatening statement posted on social media last night and he worked most of the night with the Wyoming County Sheriff's Office and the Genesee County Sheriff's Office on the investigation. A spokesman for WCSO said that office will likely have a statement on the situation this afternoon, but the investigation is ongoing.

Cassandra Blake was jailed today on $250 bail or $500 bond for her alleged role in taking a labradoodle from the kennel where she worked, posting an ad for it on Craigslist under the alias Amy Fairview and then selling the dog, which was actually a family pet belonging to somebody else.

Sources told our news partner 13WHAM that Blake has been known to sell pets on Craigslist recently.

In 2014, Blake was indicted in Genesee County on a grand larceny charge. Blake was accused of stealing 245 lottery tickets with a face value of $1,028, along with payouts from those tickets and other cash, from the Yellow Goose store in Pavilion.

That charge led to Blake being placed on probation, and that probation was later transferred to Monroe County.

There is a report of a combine on fire in Pavilion, across from the high school, at 7014 Big Tree Road.

A five-month investigation into three residential burglaries in the West Main Street area of the Village of Le Roy concluded on Oct. 4 with the arrest of 48-year-old Thomas A. Park by the Le Roy Police Department. Park is from the Le Roy/Pavilion area but is currently living in the City of Rochester. It is alleged that during the months of April, May and June, Park unlawfully entered three different residences in Le Roy and stole items from each consisting of cash, jewelry and a crossbow. It is further alleged that Park then pawned some of the property in Batavia. Park was charged with three counts of burglary in the second degree, a Class C felony, and three counts of petit larceny, a Class A misdemeanor. Park was arraigned before the Le Roy Town Court and released RUS as he is being overseen by Genesee Justice and the Rochester City Drug Court. 

A 17-year-old who lives on Myrtle Street in Le Roy is charged with two counts of third-degree burglary. Following an investigation in the Town of Le Roy, it is alleged that at 12:45 p.m. on July 20 the defendant entered a garage in the 8000 block of Route 5, without the owner's consent, and stole a 17-caliber long gun. It is further alleged that on the same day, the defendant entered another garage in the vicinity on Route 5, without the owner's consent, and stole a pellet gun. The defendant was arraigned in Le Roy Town Court and released under supervision of Genesee Justice. The investigation was conducted by Sheriff's Deputy Andrew Hale and Investigator Bradley Mazur.

Dolores M. Urban, 50, of Goodrich Road, Clarence, is charged with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operator, a felony, misdemeanor DWI, misdemeanor aggravated DWI (with a BAC of .21 percent), and having an inadequate muffler. On Oct. 6 at 114 Route 77 in Corfu, Urban was stopped for having an inadequate muffler. According to the report of the Viilage of Corfu Police Department: "Upon activating patrols emergency lights to affect the stop, the driver pulled off the east shoulder of the roadway, striking the bridge over the creek." After interviewing Urban and having her perform field sobriety tests, she was arrested. She was released on appearance tickets and is due in Village Court on Oct. 24.

Dean D. Root, 35, of 40 Main St., Apt. # 2, Le Roy, was arrested on Oct. 7 by the Le Roy Police Department and charged with one count of petit larceny, a Class A misdemeanor. It is alleged that on that day Root shoplifted an item from a pharmacy in the Village. Root was issued an appearance ticket and is to appear in the Le Roy Town Court on Oct. 17 to answer the charge.

The Board of Directors of the Genesee County Economic Development Center (GCEDC) approved an application for Growing the Agricultural Industry Now! (GAIN!) revolving loan fund for a project in Pavilion. The Board also approved a PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) extension for Empire Pipeline in the town of Oakfield at its Oct. 6 meeting.

The GCEDC board approved a GAIN! loan in the amount of $65,000 to Cottonwood Farms for the acquisition of milking equipment that would combine wind and solar power in one turbine in order to increase efficiency and electric energy output. The new equipment for the farm’s robotic dairy system is expected to reduce annual electricity costs by approximately $7,000 to $8,000. Cottonwood Farms LLC operates a 300-cow organic dairy farm in Pavilion.

Empire Pipeline owns and operates a compressor station and pipeline in the town of Oakfield. The GCEDC Board accepted the application and will set a public hearing for Empire Pipeline’s request to extend their PILOT agreement for 15 years.

“The GAIN revolving loan program has the opportunity to provide significant benefits to the agricultural sector in Genesee County,” said GCEDC Board Chairman Paul Battaglia. “While the program was just launched in May, the GCEDC has made a tremendous effort to get the money out to the farms, and working in our local economy.”

Through funding provided by Empire State Development, the GAIN program provides loans to qualifying businesses in Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming and Yates counties, all of which are in the top 10 agricultural counties in New York State.

Cottonwood Farms LLC in Pavilion is seeking to install a wind turbine system that would combine wind and solar power in one turbine in order to increase efficiency and electric energy output. The GCEDC is considering a GAIN! loan in the amount of $65,000 to Cottonwood Farms for the acquisition of the dual system equipment.

The GCEDC also is considering another GAIN! loan for $177,139 for Sandvoss Farms LLC -- First Light Creamery in East Bethany. The loan will be used for the construction of a new refrigeration and storage facility, site work to improve access and traffic flow as well as a new hoop house for feed and materials storage and a new goat nursery facility. Sandvoss Farms processes pasteurized cheese, milk and yogurt from raw goat’s milk.

The Growing the Agricultural Industry Now! (GAIN) initiative is a $400,000 revolving loan fund for Genesee County farms and agribusinesses. It is designed to follow existing revolving loan funds that return investments directly back into a pool for the next round of projects. Projects can receive between $25,000 and $200,000 in gap financing at a 1 percent interest rate.

THE GCEDC will also review an application from Empire Pipeline to terminate their existing PILOT agreement, and instate a new 15-year fixed PILOT for their compressor station and pipeline in Oakfield. As the project incentives are more than $100,000 a public hearing will be set if the GCEDC Board accepts the application.

The GCEDC board meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6th, at the MedTech Center, across from Genesee Community College, on the first floor at the Innovation Center, Suite 107. All board meetings are open to the public.

Cynthia Eggleston told the judge she was “very, very, very regretful” for stealing more than $40,000 from Pavilion’s Parent Teacher Organization in Genesee County Court Tuesday morning. She was the PTA's treasurer.

Eggleston’s last appearance in court made news as Judge Michael Pietruszka rejected an agreement in which Eggleston would plead guilty to fourth-degree grand larceny and receive a probation only sentence after it was revealed she was accused of stealing from yet another organization.

Those allegations were never brought to fruition and no additional charges were filed.

However, Eggleston maintained her guilty plea and was sentenced to five years probation and four months of weekend work release in the County Jail.
