Mrs. Betty J. Stedge

Byron - Betty  J.  Stedge, 100  of Byron  passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024 at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

She was born Sunday, December 23rd, 1923 in Waverly, a daughter of the late Howard William Smith, Sr. and Christine Marie Mace Smith.

She was a member of Bergen United Methodist Church where she attended their women's group regularly and was very active in 4-H with her late husband William. Betty enjoyed reading, and crocheting in her free time. She loved her family immensely and would go to watch her grandkids and great-grandkids sporting events every chance she could.

Betty is preceded in death by her loving husband William J. Stedge.

She is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Wayne) Pocock of Bergen and Patricia (Frederick) Swift of Queensbury; grandchildren, Daniel Swift, Rick (Risa) Swift, Michael (Shelley) Swift. Cathy (Thomas) Jaffee, James Pocock, Jeffrey Pocock and Joel (Debora) Pocock; great-grandchildren, Raven Swift, Aydin Swift, Kamran Swift, Theo Jaffee, Alex Jaffee, Luke Jaffee, Elliott Davenport, Conner Swift, Ashley (Anders) Kursar, Colby (fiancéé Rebecca Reamer) Pocock, Mikaylan Pocock, Jaden Pocock, Logan Pocock, and Novalee Pocock; great-great-grandchild Levi Pocock; brother Nelson (late Carol) Smith of Elmira and sister, Shirley (Harry) Hartman of Elmira.

Betty is predeceased by her siblings, Howard Smith Jr., Robert Smith, Virginia Knickenbocker, Barbara Higgins and Cecil Burger.

Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, April 30th, 2024  from 3:00 pm  to 6:00 pm  at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Street, Bergen.  Betty 's Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 1st, 2024 at the  Bergen United Methodist Church, 27 South Lake Avenue Bergen, New York 14416.  She will be laid to rest in Mount Rest Cemetery,Bergen.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bergen United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 216, Bergen, New York 14416.
