Thelma C. Montreal

Batavia - Thelma C. Montreal, 81, of Batavia, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2015 at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility.

Mrs. Montreal was born May 6, 1933 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Laverne and Doris Dorman Wood.

A longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Batavia, she was active in several church ministries including the quilting ministry. A current member of the board of directors of the Genesee ARC, she served as an advocate for residents and also served as president of the board of directors.

She will be remembered by her family as a wonderfully caring person who was always willing to help and would put the needs of others first.

She loved traveling with her family and was also a member of NARFE.

Thelma was a registered nurse for the veteran's hospitals in Batavia, Buffalo and New Mexico. Education was very important to her and she obtained her Master's Degree while working and raising her family.

She is predeceased by her husband, Frank Montreal.

She is survived by her children, Carol Montreal and Susan Montreal, both of Batavia and Thomas Montreal of East Pembroke; her son-in-law, Donald Myers of Batavia; five grandchildren; her sisters,  Roberta Baker and Beatrice Mulcahy, both of Florida; her brother,  Wayne (Karen) Wood of Alabama and several nieces and nephews also survive.

She is the mother of the late Kathleen D. Montreal who passed away on December 13, 2014 and sister of the late Dale Wood.

Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where her services will follow at 7 p.m. She will be interred in East Bethany Cemetery. Please consider memorials to Genesee ARC, 64 Walnut Street, Batavia, New York 14020.
