George H. Schmitt

George H. Schmitt, 87 of Akron, passed away Tuesday morning (November 25, 2014) at Brothers of Mercy Nursing and Rehab Center in Clarence, NY.
 
He was born in Buffalo on July 17, 1927, a son of the late Harold and Gertrude Schultz Schmitt.
 
George was a U.S. Navy and Army Veteran who served in both World War II and the Korean War.  He was the owner of the former Corfu Muffler Store in Corfu and once owned gas stations in Alden and Williamsville.  He was a hardworking man who enjoyed his family and will be greatly missed by many.
 
Survivors include his children, Laura (Lynn) Swanson of Colorodo, Larry Schmitt of California, Lester (Laurie) Schmitt of Cooperstown and Linda (Robert) Wideman of Akron. Also survived by six grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
 
He was the husband of the late Carol Hunt Schmitt.
 
There will be no prior visitation and funeral services will be at the convenience of the family.
