Rosario S. Tumminello

Batavia - Rosario S. Tumminello, 85, retired manager at the former Marshalls News Store in Batavia, died Thursday (October 16, 2014) at the New York State Veteran's Home.

Mr. Tumminello was born December 16, 1928 in Batavia, the son of the late Rosario and Josephine (Gugino) Tumminello.

 “Rosie” began working the Marshall’s News Store as a paperboy at the age of 8.  At 12 years old he was hired to work inside the store and remained with the store for the next 52 years eventually retiring as manager.  On Tuesday and Thursday mornings you would find Rosie and many of his friends at the Miss Batavia Diner.

He was a member of Resurrection Parish, a 1948 graduate of Batavia High School, life member of the Veness-Strollo VFW Post 1602 and a life member of the Alexander Fire Department. A US Army Veteran, he served during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey E. (Hawker) Tumminello, whom he married June 11, 1955.

Survivors also include two sons, Keith (Sandra) Tumminello of Plano, Texas and Paul (Kevin Dugan) Tumminello of New York, NY; two daughters, Annemarie (David) Baldo of Rochester and Marianne (Stephen) Scalise of Webster and one sister, Ida Tumminello of Batavia.   He is the grandfather of Nicholas Baldo. Abigail Scalise, Sarah Scalise, Garrett Scalise and Spencer Scalise.  Nieces and nephews also survive.

He is a brother of the late Mary Cecere, Frank  Tumminello, Josephine Hayden and Samuel & Anthony  Gaeta.

Calling hours are Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia.  His Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00 p.m. Monday at Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia.  Burial with full military honors will be in Grandview Cemetery, Batavia.
