Stanley Thomas Slivinski, Jr.

Stanley Thomas Slivinski, Jr., 72 a 1960 graduate of Batavia High School and a lifetime resident of Batavia, died on September 20, 2014 at Medina Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 26, 1942 in Batavia, he was the son of the late Stanley T. Slivinski and Arlene Harrison Slivinski.

Stanley graduated from High School with majors in Science and Business. He attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and Roberts Wesleyan College where he received his BA with a major in comprehensive social studies and concentrations in political science, Sociology, and Latin American Studies. His graduate work was completed at SUNY Geneseo with a major in History Education and permanent NYS certification to teach grades 7-12.

Mr. Slivinski was a retired teacher from the Attica Central School. He was a veteran and served overseas with the 34th Artillery, 24th Infantry Division as a medic. He was active in the Boy Scouts, receiving the Eagle Scout Award in 1958. He served as President of American Federation of Teachers Local #2475, and many other union offices. He was a member and officer of the Genesee-Wyoming-Livingston County Labor Council, AFLCIO. He served with the Town of Batavia Fire Dept. for 7 years, and is an Exempt Firefighter. He is a life member of the Genesee County Volunteer Firemen’s Association. He is a member of the American Legion Glen S. Loomis Post. He served on the Board of Directors for the Tonawanda Valley Federal Credit Union for 20 years. He was a member and Treasurer of the Batavia Society of Artists. Stanley was a member of the Association of American Historians, Rochester Area Council of the Social Studies, New York State Council for the Social Studies, National Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, National Eagle Scout Association, New York State Retired Teachers Association and the First United Methodist Church of Batavia.

Stanley is survived by his wife Regina Wolff Slivinski of Batavia, 7 grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Wednesday September 24, 2014 from 4 to 8 PM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main Street Batavia, New York 14020. An 11:00 AM Funeral Services will be held on Thursday September 25, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church 8221 Lewiston Road Batavia, New York 14020. Stanley will be laid to rest in Grand View Cemetery, Batavia.
