SAM F. MONACHINO

Age 79, of Elba, NY, retired restaurant manager, died peacefully Tuesday morning August 23, 2011 at home with his wife by his side following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 13, 1932 in Elba son of the late Onofrio & Rose (Marabella) Monachino, also preceded in death by sisters Philippa (late George) Burns, Betty Capadano & Pauline Groulx; brothers Paul & Patsy Monachino; daughter-in-law Dawn and sister-in-law Joan Monachino. A graduate of Elba Central School and a United States Army Veteran, he was a member of St. Padre Pio Parish and a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. Sam was a kindhearted and generous man who had many interests and hobbies and who made friends wherever he went. His absolute joy in life was spending time with all the many people he loved and cared about - especially his family and cherished grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by so many but leaves behind a legacy of great spiritual faith, fortitude in the face of adversity, love & generosity of heart - all this will live on forever in the hearts of all who love and miss him.

     Surviving is his beloved wife of nearly 25 years Catherine (Ohl) Monachino of Elba; loving children Frank of Ft. Worth, TX, Michael of Clarence, Sandra (Angelo) Ciraolo of Clarence Center; brothers Onofrio (Nancy) Monachino, Joseph (Anne) Monachino all of Missouri, Thomas (Colleen) Monachino of Ohio & sister Suzanne (Donald) Drachenberg of Batavia; grandchildren Joshua, Lindsay, Courtney, Nicholas & Zachary; sisters-in-law Helen & Mary Ellen Monachino both of Batavia; brothers-in-law Amos Groulx of Ogdensburg & Harry Capadano of FL along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

     Family and friends may visit from 3:30-7:30 PM Saturday August 27 & Sunday August 28 at the Michael S. Tomaszewski Funeral & Cremation Chapel, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York 14020 where prayers 9:15 AM Monday August 29 will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Padre Pio Parish (Elba Site). Memorials in Sam's memory are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice, burial with Military Honors will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
